The first album I ever had was Elton John's Greatest Hits, which my folks gave me a cassette of for Crhistmas when I was 11.

First I ever paid for was Stevie Wonder's Talking Book, when I was 14.

First release paid for with money that I earned at an actual job: Ziggy Stardust.

I think...that the first thing I remember buying was a 45- Light My Fire / Crystal Ship by the Doors( I think I still have it). I already had a few Beatles 45's and maybe a Rascals and Hermann's Hermitts and DC5 ...my best friends older brother was hanging with the Rascals and was an early drummer for them before they were famous and I got music from him...I also had some really early ska we had had a young Jamaican girl live with us for a few months and she left me all this great Desmond Decker type stuff...but i do remember getting it at like a Wolworths or some other five and dime..I hadnt discovered Bleeker street just then....I do rememebr the first box i bought was either tommy or Concert for Bangledesh...but cant for the life of me think of the first album...it prolly was beatles or stones...my mind is a blur...hmmmn so does that mean stones?

First LP was Steve Miller The Joker and first 8 track was Bachman Turner Overdrive...I had the coolest little portable 8 track player that was
bright yellow and had a plunger on top to get the tapes out. It was coooooool

It was the 70s and I was a kid staying with my aunt for the summer. We happened by a record store, and she said she would buy me the record of my choice. I had it down to Helen Redy's "I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar" and the Star Wars sountrack. I picked Star Wars, and I think it was a good decision. I just wish I knew the hell where it was now.
