Re: Internet Organizing that has shifted the ground...
Mon, November 28, 2005 - 10:29 AMObviously my favorite was the Aspen Report, it really opened my eyes to the grassroots potential of the internet. The pen (or in this case, the keyboard) is mightier than the sword (or possibly cruise missles).

Re: Internet Organizing that has shifted the ground...
Mon, November 28, 2005 - 12:27 PMWell, in my own words, I think that the growing potential of the new read/write web and social software, like tribe, increases the potential for ideas to flourish and get broad exposure.
This shift is being discussed everywhere now as traditional official filtering organizations, like governments, the press, etc. are loosing audiences. They find themselves competing with the direct global channel provided by the internet. The internet channel is available to anyone and everyone who is effective at expressing and marketing their ideas.
The fear of those in control is that while this can be good, the net results are not predictable because it is all too new to monitor and moderate and manipulate. In many cases, the voices of moderation that ARE needed to balance internet based group think are not available because they simply do not have access to or understand the new medium. This creates opportunity for shifting the balance of power towards those who do understand the medium.
