Hello again.

I am writing today, to inquire about your interest in learning how to make your own patterns from scratch.
I know a lot of people who are in the burning man community like to make their own garments, as do I.

I would like to pass on my knowledge of the rules of fabric, and the rules of pattern making to give the power to the creators (thats you);
and not be left to the devices of what you can find in a pattern book.

Have you always had an idea for something, but have never been quite sure how to make it?
I have been thinking about this for a long time. As I am working to build my business in Design, I am also realizing, that there are a lot of people who cannot necessarily afford to nor desire to pay someone else to make their wardrobes or Burning Man costumes. Well, I would rather teach you all how to fish.. then make all of your designs... LoL..

I am currently working on tailoring a curriculum to the interest of our community. There is a lot to learn both in the sewing and patterning of making garments. And there is more information then can be packed into an 8 hour day. I see more then one level of workshops happening, therefore, I am working out the required elements versus special design techniques.

What I need to know is, are you interested in learning about pattern making?
How much time are you willing to commit to your learning?
will you commit to doing homework?
Do you know how to sew?
Would you say you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced?
what kinds of things are you interested in learning about making?
Do you own a sewing machine?
Do you own a serger? Do you own a dress form?
Are you willing to commit to an 8 week course, buying books, and supplies that will be needed?
* Not only for the class but also for pattern making ever forward.
Would you prefer to have a one day workshop or have your classes spread out over several weeks?

I am currently working out a pay scale for classes as well.... that will come later.
Thanks for taking the time to read and consider these questions.

It is my pleasure to serve you. The workshops will begin AFTER the burn...:)

I am super interested i this. My two primary problems .... the distance and the probable hours. Once the school year starts, my hours get very unburner-like .... get up at 4, go to be by 9 or 10. I live 50 minutes away from you so that could be difficult. Sooooooo ..... I would love to do this but I would prefer to have a few long sessions rather than many short ones.

    To answer your q's:

Yes, I'd do know how to sew
I'm an expert seamstress .... sin serging
I have my own machine but no serger (WANT one VERY badly and want to learn how to use one), no dress form
I always have tops, lingerie, dresses, jackets, costumes, etc in mind and RARELY can find a pattern ... I even struggle finding multiple patterns I
can combine for the look I want.
I would be delighted to do homework if it was something that I could use for my needs, not just generic practices, and I would be willing to
buy the books/materials but I am very concerned about the overall cost .... I've WAY overspent for BM and am trying to live w/o a
roommate with bigger expenses (I know ... irresponsible hippy!)
I'm super interested in knowing how to make the curves to allow for sleeves, crotches, bust etc and just general pattern-making.

I'm super excited about the possibilities ... can't wait to hear how this develops!
