I have included some numbers for your viewing.........
*Israel is the largest recipient of US foreign aid, receiving over one-third of total US aid despite being home to just .001% of the global population and having one of the highest per capita incomes in the world.
*Since 1949 the US has given Israel a total of $84,854,827,200. The interest costs born by US taxpayers on behalf of Israel are $49,937,000,000 - making the total amount of aid given to Israel since 1949 more than $134 billion.
*The total cost of this financial aid to US tax payers per Israeli is $23,240.
For the 2005 fiscal year, Israel received $357 million in Economic Support Funds (ESF), $2.202 billion in Foreign Military Financing (FMF), and $50 million in migration settlement assistance.
*For 2006, the Administration has requested $240 million in economic support and $2.28 billion in military support .
*U.S. House and Senate measures also add $40 million for the settlement of migrants from the former Soviet Union and take note of Israel's plan to bring remaining Ethiopian Jews to Israel in three years.
*Israeli press reported that Israel is requesting some $2.25 billion in special aid in a mix of grants and loan guarantees over four years, with one-third to be used to relocate military bases from the Gaza Strip to Israel.
*The Israeli families that were made to leave the occupied territory recently will be given roughly $200,000 per family to build new homes - all paid for by U.S. taxpayers. Compare this to what the victims of Katrina have gotten.
*To help Israel out of its economic slump, the U.S. provided $9 billion in loan guarantees over three years, use of which has since been extended to 2008.
The U.S. Constitution does not say anything about protecting Israel.
Nor does the U.S. Constitution mention that our duty was to try to jam democracy down the throats of the rest of the world.

A recent quote by Lou Dobbs
'While the United States provides about $2.5 billion in military and economic aid to Israel each year, U.S. aid to Lebanon amounts to no more than $40 million. This despite the fact that the per capita GDP of Israel is among the highest in the world at $24,600, nearly four times as high as Lebanon's GDP per capita of $6,200.
Lebanon's lack of wealth is matched by the Palestinians - three out of every four Palestinians live below the poverty line. Yet the vast majority of our giving in the region flows to Israel. This kind of geopolitical inconsistency and shortsightedness has contributed to the Arab-Israeli conflict that the Western world seems content to allow to perpetuate endlessly.'

Re: Excessive U.S. aid to Israel
Sun, August 27, 2006 - 12:18 AMThe US administrators believe (or are made to believe by the powerful pro-Israeli lobby) that supporting Israel is in their strategic interests in the region. I do not see the aid to Israel stopping or getting reduced. The burden on the taxpayer --- true it will be there unless people stand up and oppose it.

Re: Excessive U.S. aid to Israel
Tue, October 10, 2006 - 9:44 AMThe figures came from a number of places. Mostly from government figures. Usually the numbers are spread out and so no one figure alone alarms people that much. It is only when you put them all together that we get a clearer picture of what's going on.

Re: Excessive U.S. aid to Israel
Sun, September 10, 2006 - 3:53 AMhmm, i thought this was supposed to be a more conservative alternative to the republican party.... sure does not sound that way...last i heard, the folks claiming to be Palestinians were/are actually disenfranchised Jordanians, and their late leader was an Egyptian, not a Palestinian. If these people have wealthy relatives, what happened there, why are they not taking care of their family members? All Israel has is one country, they are literally surrounded by their enemy on a daily basis.....somehow, we need to start training/educating people to be self reliant, and yes, I suppose that does include our own citizens, too...and yes, this is IMHO, only, as they say, YMMD... -

Re: Excessive U.S. aid to Israel
Tue, October 10, 2006 - 9:54 AMFirst off, No, the New American Independent Party does not claim to be more or less conservative than the Republican party. Some could call us moderate, and others could say that we are both liberal and conservative. And better yet, we don't use those words at all.
Second, our call for a more neutral stance on Israel/Palestine is not a liberal or conservative issue. Ultra Conservatives like Pat Buchanan and Bob Novak both support a neutral stance on Israel/Palestine. Our stance is in the best interest of the United States. We elect our officals to serve the U.S., and represent the interests of U.S. citizens not Israeli citizens.
George Washington warned repeatedly that the U.S. should never become too close to another country. And that doing so is a recipe for disaster. He even mentions this in his farewell address. I am sure that it can be easily found by doing an internet search.
