I was walking through the forest & what did I see,
But a little old faerie staring at me!
"Hello," sez I with a shock & a grin,
"Hello yourself," she said, "Do come in."
And just like that, without my feet leaving solid earth,
I found myself staring at a warm cozy hearth,
So there we sat, the old faerie & me,
for what seemed an hour, but was certainly three.
She told me of her life, of her family long gone,
Of thier lands & thier people, thier stories & songs,
Then she gave me a secret, & bade me heed well,
This was not truly Her secret, & not mine to tell.
Then as quickly as she appeared & brought me into her home,
She & all of her place vanished, leaving me to roam,
'Till I happened in here & met you fine folks,
To fill my time with laughter & jokes!
(A bard's tale by me for you penned here right now for you by me!)

Re: A Happy Hippy Hello!
Tue, February 19, 2008 - 1:49 PMThank you brother! I thought I'd share something else with the family today... This one I wrote well over a decade ago, & it's probably still one of my better ramblings, or maybe just the one I personally like the best... Lemme know whatcha think! :)
Kryn
Inside...
The machine rolls on, Relentless,
Cold & dark, stifling all senses.
Inside...
Blood turned Oil,
Flesh turned Steel,
Soul turned Spark.
Electric Life of Death Walking.
Inside...
Can we stop the wheel's turning?
Can we keep the world from burning?
The answer lies
Inside...
Outside...
From Leaf to Bark to Root to Soil,
Water of Life from Freeze to Boil.
Outside...
Plant turned Animal,
Animal turned Soil,
Soil turned Plant.
Chaotic Life of Spirit Waking.
Outside...
Can we keep the cycle going?
Can we keep the waters flowing?
The answer lies
Outside... -

Tue, February 19, 2008 - 9:43 PM:D :D ^.^ Methinks the bard has found reason to blush! Thank you for your amazing praise, I don't deserve such kind words...
I think I shall share more with you, soon enough, soon enough... most my tales first poured out of me through pencil & paper, so I must first transcribe them into digital mediums, but return I will with more tales to tell...
I Love You All,

Re: A Happy Hippy Hello!
Wed, February 20, 2008 - 1:54 AMOk, I have another one for ya; This one's actually a short story. Or a page of a story... Perhaps it could best be described as the last page to a novel I have yet to write, and possibly never will. Possibly... Hard to tell really, though I've been carrying this with me for more than fifteen years and have yet to expand on it. Regardless of what it is, or may be someday, I share it with you...
Working Title - One for the Road
The man picked his way carefully up the side of the sloping hill. He knew the path he walked well enough, but he realized he wasn't the healthiest creature in the wood. His bones were brittle with age and his back had bent over from the weight of the years. His clothing was torn in many places, and quite filthy from wear. He reeked of woodsmoke and mansweat, but had long since lost even the ability to notice. If anyone had mentioned such to him he would simply have smiled.
Finally, the small winding path reached it's end, and the man looked up to see a heartwarmingly familiar sight. A small hut stood in front of him; it's humble walls filling him as they always did with a sense of pride. Each stone had been carefully chosen and carried one by one from the nearby river to the clearing. Every stone was set firmly in place with a simple clay mortar; the low roof was made of a few strong wood beams covered over with thatch. Over the years the old man had meticulously kept the roof thatch refreshed, the mortar patched; but now the signs of aging could clearly be seen in the weathered walls.
He walked over to a large outdoor hearth, also built slowly over the course of the years, and lifted the lid from a large kiln-fired pot sitting atop it. Picking up a wooden handcarved ladle he stirred the stew for a moment, then dipped out a bit of the broth and brought it gingerly to his lips. After carefully tasting the hot brew he set down the ladle and stated aloud, "Not quite ready.."
After adding another pinch of dried spices to the pot the old man wandered over to a small rocking chair which, like most everything he possesed, he had put his own time and sweat into building. Resting in the still firm chair he gazed out at the valley which had been his home for the last thirty-odd years. "It has been good to me, this valley," he thought. "Always the trees and plants have been fruitful, the forest and valley walls kept me sheltered from the bite of the storm, and shaded me from the heat of the noonday sun. The river's waters pour icy and fresh, yet in even the coldest of winters it's waters continued to flow.." The valley loved him, and he gladly returned that love.
The stew had finished cooking while his mind was wandering, so he stood up and entered the hut. Walking past his sleeping mat he stopped beside a small set of shelves. The shelves were covered in an assortment of oddments which over the years he had accumilated, one such object was an irregularly shaped wooden bowl. It was for this he had come into the hut. Taking the bowl in hand he stepped back out into the reddish light of the setting sun. He spooned out a hearty helping of the thick stew and settled down to watch the shadows grow in the fading light. Once the stew was finished and the sun had set he returned the bowl to it's place on the shelf, then stretched out on his bed mat to rest... -

Re: A Happy Hippy Hello!
Sat, February 23, 2008 - 3:31 AMYou should read the works of Lord Dunsany, I think you would like them. I've only poked throught The King of Elfland's Daughter, but it was beautiful. He is one of those terribly unknown authors that authors still know about and very few readers. It's a conspiracy I tell you!
Another author little known these days, though Bram Stoker pretty much ripped him off if you ask me, is J. Sheridan LeFanu.
Both of these guys wrote collections of shorts stories, though LeFanu tended to Gothic and horror only, while Dunsany went all over the place, apparently. I only knew about him as a reference for source material in Exalted, a White Wolf Roleplaying game. The first sections of their games have a list of books, films, etc to give you the feel of where they are coming from, and I have found some real gems there. That's how I heard of LeFanu' s Carmilla and The Monk by Mathew Lewis, one of the best gothic Novels ever.
I am writing, (well i was, seem to be stalled after about 13000 words, I WILL get back to it) my first novel, and part of it deals with Faeries. If anyone would like to share any specific books that I might reference or has some stories kicking around, let's talk. I think I am going to make a series out of this, and there may be room for multiple writers, or a collection of works.
I also have my website started www.mymusetellslies.com and would like input on how it looks and such. I plan on having a writing section soon, so you can get an idea of what I am about. I have been toying with the idea of doing a serial or two while I work on the novel, as well as a comic.
Wow, tangent there I went. MIght as well keep going.
The single best book, I really suggest you get an audio version of it, not the actual book, I have ever encountered about writing that I actually liked, finished and applied was Stephen King's On Writing. I credit it with me getting 12000 words done in 2 weeks ( I have written the same story for years and never had anywhere close to 12000 words, always did little blurbs) and I curse myself for not taking his advice about staying on track by NOT letting people read it before the first draft is done. The book is funny, informative and real. Read by the Dude himself. Oh, by the way, I have never read any of his books, so if you don't like his work or you do, I don't think it even matters.
Ok, I have hijacked this thread enough, you got me excited with seeing people write. i love writing. I love seeing others do it. I am not gonna say that everyone is awesome at it, most are passable, some I cannot take at all. But I think literature is a dying craft, and that is not good. If all we ever do is read non-fiction, our dreams become stale. Television and movies, even music cannot replace the power and magic(k) of a good piece of fantasy.
Hey, I just had an idea, well maybe two.
Would people be interested in:
1. Starting another tribe called something like Rainbow Writing for the literary workers amongst us. OR
2. Keeping a continual thread going involving writing and such, perhaps sharing, perhaps collaborating.
The thread idea would be simple, just use people already here, but the group idea would be more organized, maybe do both?
I know I said sharing your work before first draft is done is a no no, but short pieces don't take long, and people work differently. Vonnegut apparently worked out a page at a time, no drafts, just worked each bit till he couldn't work it anymore.
Oh, one thing I really, really, don't want to do is, the "I say a word and then you write a sentence about it and passalong game, or any variation of it. BLEH! They usually turn out stupid very quick. BLEH!
As for paragraph passing, that can work ok, but usually the best stuff is Variations on a theme, such as Let's write a scifi story, I write the first section and you write the next, but must use at least one of the previous characters, as in Arabian Nights.
I don't actually think most of this stuff makes anybody a better writer, and that is the darn tootin truth. Sorry, I agree with Stephen King that the only things that works are writing a lot, and reading a lot. What this interchange can and hopefully does do is make people get off their butts. I''m not so worried about critque as i would like to see myself and other young talents get out there and get cracking in the art world.
If you read this far, you rock. i've been on quite a roll.
Conclusion: Earthy Fun is awesome, but I am at heart a Gatherer of People and Ideas, maybe even Souls. The urge to Do Great Things, and Make Great Works burns rather fiercely in me and I am glad to have this place that doesn't judge me and perhaps even likes me. I am an attention grabber, freely admitted, but I am sincere in my desire to push independent art in the United States (I speak for them for they are my home) to hold itself in High Regard and not take the excuse of. "I'm Indy, so I can suck a bit, that makes me even more Indy and gets me clout on the street." As my good friend Josh says, "Screw that Noise!" D.I.Y. Do or Die, Damn the Man. but Have a Plan. Organize to get Power to the People and stop being a complacent peon. "I am not interested in power for power's sake, but I'm interested in power that is moral, that is right and that is good."- Martin Luther King Jr.

Re: A Happy Hippy Hello!
Wed, April 2, 2008 - 3:22 AMGood, really good! The wife & I are steadily planning away.. Actually we are heading to this national with the intent of letting rainbow guide our next move in life; we're leaving Florida behind for a time & seeing where the rainbow winds will take us, intentionally not setting anything in stone until we see what's in store for us this gathering. I plan to be a very active participant in vision coucil, main circle, & any other aspect of Rainbow Family life I can! :) This will actually only be my fourth national, & I've never been to a regional or world gathering, but I know Rainbow as I know my own heart. My first gathering was in '85, I was four turning five later that month; my mom, my sister, & I all went together.. I didn't actually return until '01, in idaho I think it was.. My mom is a hardcore Rainbow who goes by the name of Momma T, she's been to more gatherings than I can count, nationals, regionals, world, you name it she's been there! We followed the dead around for years, we were at the second to last concert in Deercreek Indiana in '95.. Once on winter tour she got snowed in to her hotel in New York & it turned out the Dead were staying in the same hotel, so she ended up hanging around with the other hotel guests in the lobby listening to the dead jam out on thier acoustic guitars, & Bobby even hit on her! lol... She was instrumental in the formation of the Wharf Rat tables at the dead concerts, & again in the many incarnations that sprouted after Jerry's passing, she was one of the first on the scene during hurricaine Katrina & helped form the American Rainbow Rapid Relief that came out of that, she recently began running a kitchen called Brew Ha Ha, originally formed by a wonderful spirit named Dreampeace who passed on a short time ago..
So anyway, the point of all this is to say that while you or I may not have been to very many gatherings ourselves as of yet, it's still just as much our home as it is any other. Once the infectious lovin vibes have found thier way into your heart your soul forever dances with the memory & your body aches longingly for the rythmic heartbeat that is... RAINBOW! :D :D Lovin you brother, I can't wait to meet you there! -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: A Happy Hippy Hello!
Mon, July 14, 2008 - 12:01 PMO_O Wow! it's been a while since I last said 'high' to you lovely people in NJ! What an amazingly beautiful Gathering this was!!! My wife & I had a blast! Once again I camped with The Musical Veggie Cafe; My wife thoroughly enjoyed her 1st gathering... So how was it for all of you?? I know there was some issues with the FS & LEO's.. Heck, my wife & I were completely searched on our way in; they tore our car & everything we owned apart, ruined half our food, & broke a few of our things.. But who cares! We had the love of our Brothers & Sisters to warm our hearts!! Besides, while they were occupied with us many many brothers & sisters rolled right passed us without interference by the Powers that be.. Hehe, we had NOTHING for them to find, so we basically played smoke screen for everyone else coming in! TeeHee, silly LEO's, you get NOTHING from us & lost a few good busts in the process! Lovin You Family, Hope this year was as great for you as it was for us! -
