Glad to see you posting here Wandering.
I'm sure someone here can help you
Check with Greenery Press website They might have a book on it. I know where you are there aren't a lot of BDSM classes
For supplies you want sterile gloves. lancers, etc. Try Kinky Medical , they also have a website
I'm glad you are asking questions before you jump in

of course, lol, . i like asking questions, provided i can organize them in my head first. and yeah , where i am is SOOOO conservitive, ugh, its like living on a military base, oh wait i am. LOL Well that and Florida is ultra conservitive anyway, not just the base here, but the whole state is scared that they might summon the devil if they had any fun, lol.

Ok some basics about blood borne pathogens and cross contamination. First get yourself and your partner tested not just for HIV <that one is pretty easily managed> but also for the nastier ones Hep b and C. If you are clean of Hep B get your vaccinations for it. There is no Hep C vaccine at this point.

First and foremost get in your head a mindset of anyone you touch or play with is INFECTED with everything under the sun. This concept is universal precautions. What it means is no matter who it is in respect to your interments and environment you are going to treat them the same.

Next learn the difference between critical surfaces <those going inside the body> and casual surfaces <those outside the body that may be exposed <table tops, door knobs ect> If it is a critical surface you have to autoclave the item or use it for only once person <knives ect> casual surfaces use a cold sterilization method like Wavicide or Matacide remember these need at least 1 minute of wet time to get a high kill rate. Bleach at a 10% solution will also work but needs a minimum 10 minutes of wet time.

Gloves wear em and change them often... They come off before you touch anything execpt your partner and your work area. This includes phones doors walls ect.

Now that ya know a bit about protecting your partner and others around you
The rest of Blood play can include cutting, blood letting, blood drinking <very dangerous but your call if ya wanna go there>, Blood painting, needle play... Kinda like Microsoft where ya wanna go today?.. These all could take a book just to get into.

And Never, Never, Never leave your used needles out where an innocent bystander can touch them! I was doing set-up one night at my local dungeon and put my hand down on a shelf, right on top of two used needles! And there was a "sharps" disposal box Right Next to them!
Even if your partner is interested in fluid exchange, the people who clean up after you are Not!

Knew I forgot something... Yeah have a sharps container near you where you can dispose of your needles and or blades. Dispose of your own paper towels gloves and any other larger disposable product tie the bag off and clearly mark it bio hazard. Dispose of it in a lawful manner. Here in Seattle I have a friendly doc who will add my bio to his outgoing for incineration.

The safety of others IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, this includes the trash man the cleanup people and anyone eslse who may come in contact with your resulting biohazardous trash.
