I'm going to my first Munch this month in Marin and wondered about other peoples first time experiences. I have read Jay Wisemans guide but would love to hear other stories, especially women going on their own.

Sun, October 5, 2008 - 7:56 AMMy first Munch happened to be the Marin Munch also. I had a wonderful time. Everyone at the Munch took the time to approach me and say hello. I found out about upcoming kink events, and was invited to a private play party which I attended and enjoyed tremendously.

The first munch I went to was unstructured (no around the table introductions, no announcements) and I did fine there because I'm gregarious. The next munch was a bit of chit-chat then introductions & announcements-while I did meet people, it wasn't as interesting, to me, as the 1st munch.

Mon, October 6, 2008 - 4:05 PMI had a great time going to my first munch! I went with a friend, who is a bottom. With me being a top, it was a perfect combination. Anybody who didn't fit me was perhaps a better fit for her and vice versa. Not only that, but we were able to "vet" together.
Wear something you feel good in and make eye contact. You'll be surprised at how many people you meet. Even if they're not into what you are, chances are, they know someone who is. -

Tue, November 11, 2008 - 9:59 PMI would make the point that, if you don't like the first munch you go to, don't give up! Much like AA meetings, or Weight Watchers, or swing dance classes or whatever, much of what makes a munch is the crowd, the vibe, the energy, etc. i've been to munches that I really didn't enjoy much . . . age or gender balance was off, or the "new meat" phenomenon was a little creepy (I mean, people are always respectful, but I find it a bit unnerving when tons of guys who have no idea whether we're compatible, or even what I'm into want to hand me their business cards, just because I'm a cute girl.) I was very close to giving up on munches because I didn't like the one I attended a couple of times (it was convenient to my house and a friend liked it). Then I tried another one and it was awesome. So, there ya go . .. go in with high expectations, but if it's not your crowd, it may not be the concept of munches, it may just be this one. -

Fri, November 14, 2008 - 10:30 AMI agree. Completely. Try different places if you are not comfortable with one go to another. I was also victim of "new meat" phenomenon. CREEPY. I guess that is a good word to use. Lets have a conversation and get to the likes a bit before getting phone numbers.
Have the expectations and find the right crowd. It can be challenging but not worth worth your time to hang in uncomfortable groups. -

Fri, November 14, 2008 - 10:48 AMFunny, the only two times I ever witnessd the "new meat" phenomenon was with new Male meat. One of them was my escort and I couldn't get a word into the conversation the whole meal because of the flocks of unaccompanied women trying to get between us.
Fortunately it wasn't a "date". -

Fri, November 14, 2008 - 5:14 PMThe one and only munch I went to was the pony munch. It was fun and very informative. The food was great and I learned so much about things I had no idea about. I knew a few of the people that were there a little. Unfortunately I've never been back or to another one. I prefer going to classes and might ck out a new one in sunnyvale for edges. Kind of hard during the week though so, I'll see. -

Well I went to the munch, and had fun :) after a nerve racking start, people began to chat in such an easy way! it was great and I made a few friends .... well I hope so anyway! :D
The following week I went to a Fetnight, a lovely couple I met at the munch offered me a lift there and back, and there were plenty of friendly faces in the place. I wasn't brave enough to 'play' at all and am in no rush till I'm comfortable with it and me, but I'll defo go to the next one in a couple of weeks. I guess I'll find my feet eventually.
So yes, very positive experience - wish I'd done it sooner!
