yogurt

What's your favorite? Are there vegan options that aren't soy-based?

I prefer to get the larger tubs of plain yogurt and mix it with frozen berries (they thaw by the time I take it out to eat at work) than to buy wee individual packages. The only brands I've seen locally in larger tubs are Silk and Nancy's. I generally go Silk because Nancy's is too weird and chunky and somewhere between cottage cheese and yogurt, rather than smooth like I expect yogurt to be. Are there other smaller brands worth trying? Did I just have bad luck with Nancy's and should I try it again?

In answer to my own question...

Either I got a couple bad batches of Nancy's, or they've improved greatly in the past few months. I'm totally happy eating their yogurt now.

And I found some rice yogurt at the local coop last night. www.ricerafoods.com/ It claims that a serving = 1.5 servings of cooked whole grains. With 24g of sugar it was a bit on the sweet side for my taste, and runnier than I like my yogurt. But good to know such a thing exists, anyhow.

Wildwood makes a big-ish tub too. Also, their "vivacious vanilla" flavour is HIGHLY addictive.

You know, I just got a big tub of the Nancy's (which I've historically disliked as well) because it's the only big one stocked near me ... and it's STILL terrible! Weird texture, weird flavor ... I've tried different ways to brighten it up but just can't stomach it! Bleg!

Weird! It's totally been better for me. Maybe they have some special stock at the Greenlake PCC.

I'll have to stop by - I was just thinking it'd be lovely to walk the lake soon. Well, as soon as this silly rain stops!
The Nancy's I bought just tasted like it had too much agar in it - the consistency wasn't smooth like it WholeSoy or Silk's yogurt is. Also, I bought the Plain kind (really, I prefer flavored, but whatever - plain can be flavored by me and it's nice for adding to indian foods/dips/whatever) and it didn't have that nice sour-tang that plain yogurt usually does.

I don't buy it often, but when I do I just get the big tub of plain Silk. It's great with granola or grapes.
