Nimby Fire Jam's status (Or This is The End)

Hey. So the fire jams. It's winter, no one wants to come out, it's cold, all of this I understand and agree with. I don't really feel much like spinning fire.

The NIMBY spin jam was put together by an agreement between Snook, the organizer of nimby, and "The Fire Spinners", that they would be allowed use of the nimby yard if they cleaned it up every sunday night. For the past two and a half months, it's basically been me showng up to spin fire once and then sweep up the yard. I'm tired of it, and it doesn't really seem like the community needs or wants an east bay spin jam, at least not one at a grungy warehouse in a bad part of town.

So unless there's enough support that people actually want this, I'm going to tell Snook that the deal is off this wednesday (2/5/8). If you really think that having an east bay spin jam is important enough to warrant sweeping up a 10x10 area of ash, get in touch with me ASAP, private messages preferred.

The NIMBY spin jam is pretty important to me, as it was my first spin jam I attended here in the Bay Area, and I basically met everyone I know now through that, either directly or as a result of things I attended that I found about at this spin jam (FireDrums, Greg's spinjam at Otherworld). That said, if oakland doesn't need a spin jam, I'm cool with that.

found poi.

Apparently someone left some poi on the nimby bar a few weeks ago.

They have black nylon webbing grips, a delta quick link, then regular quicklink. Some welded link chain that isn't shiny anymore (a sortof playa patina), and cathedral folded wicks that don't look too hard played with.
Also have two dangerous looking nuts hanging off the bottom.

They are in 'The Beaver', if whomever owns them wants them back. Otherwise, they'll become the firejam loaner pair.

How often should we have the jam?

....we started a discussion, but it went approximately nowhere, leaving me more or less in charge. Let's change that, huh? I propose that each month a different person does the scheduling. This person is responsible for signing up the people to run the jam that month. They also remind the people that signed up when their shifts are nigh. Occasionally this person may run more than one jam a month if there's an unfilled Sunday- but that should really be the exception. Once signed up, if someone has to get out of their Sunday shift they must find their own replacement.

For four people, that would result in each person running the jam roughly once a month, and scheduling it only every four months.

So who do we have? Seems I can't completely extricate myself from this just yet, so I'll put my name in the hat for now:
Me, Ian, Rubin, Mary
Q is still recovering and can't lift/move heavy stuff yet- hey Q, would you like to help once you're back to 100%?

Krispy? Mella? Nicole? Reed?

For those of you not in the know, the general rule is that the people running this must be NIMBY tenants, which excludes a lot of otherwise great volunteers. Q used to be a tenant and is great with fire, so she's a semi-exception.

Cancelations and notifications?

So I think I'm going to print up some sheets where it's just the url to this Tribe. These will get posted on the speakers on the cart, and handed out to anyone who shows up at the fire jam any night. This wont happen tonight because I'm in a bit of a rush to shower and get the fuck out of the door right now.

If by chance we need to cancel a jam (let's say because of rain, usage of the yard for other things, crack heads, flying monkeys) we can make a post here. Now this isn't fool proof, but it'll be nice if people check this site before they head over to NIMBY.

It would also rock, if someone could like, stick something on the door (or next to) proclaiming that the jam isn't happening for whatever night, just so no one lets these people in, and there aren't random people in the hard without us around.

Proposal for a sort of organizational structure.

The problems:

1. We need people to run the jam. Nobody wants to do it every week. Everyone has plans periodically, since it's a weekend and all.

2. Experience has shown that someone needs to be responsible for getting signups, and as the bottom line when nobody's around to do it.

Proposed solution:

We have a sign up sheet, or gCal, or something, where people sign up for each week. There's a bunch of us, so we each run it once a month, or maybe even less.

There is also a person who's responsible for getting people to sign up, and who gets to run the jam if nobody signs up, or if the person who's supposed to do it flakes and noone's around to take their place. This role rotates, but with less frequency. Let's call this person the "jam mom".

Two ideas for how we can pass around the jam mom role:

1. It rotates monthly. People sign up, or we pick names from a hat, or whatever.

2. It rotates based on what you do. If you miss your shift, you are now the jam mom. Congratulations! It's your problem until someone else misses their shift, and then it transfers to them.

Do these sound like possibilities? Other ideas?
