  • It's all a part of the process. It happened a couple of years ago with the DMV.

Step 1: anarchy. Everyone does what they want. Most people act responsibly, a select few f- things up.
Step 2: Vague rules: The word of mouth rules become written down and passed out. Those who were responsible before follow the rules. Those were were f-ups before continue f-ing up and bitch endlessly for how the rules are stupid and against the BM ideals.
Step 3: Unevenly enforced rules: Announcement are made about how the rules will be ruthlessly enforced. BS artists, friends of the ORG, and those capable of whining loudly enough to wear down the enforcers are allowed to continue to do whatever they want.
Step 4: Repeat step 3 as necessary. Announcements may be embelished by comments like "We really mean it this time" or "We don't want to do this but have to because of (BLM, safety, costs, fairness, etc)"
Step 5: Automation. A system is created to capture requests and allow *someone* to act on those requests. No testing is done on the system ahead of time and no fault tolerance is build in. Announcements are made right before the event as to who got in. These announcements come too late for any sort of appeal process and many people get no reply at all.
Step 6: Marginal improvements are made to the system.
Step 7: Acceptance. We all agree the system has faults but we're tired of bitching about it.

We're on step 5 this year. Next year it will be marginally less f-ed up.
