Hey Kids,
Jennifer and I got our Christmas present early this year: As of ten days ago I had two major scans done of my head and neck: The results came back last Friday: I am officially in remission and CANCER FREE. While I will always have to have scans done on a tri-yearly basis, my body is currently not harboring any mutated cells.
I didn't realize how much stress I was under living with cancer until I got the good news. After leaving the doctor's office, I felt exhausted, as if I hadn't slept for a month. I literally slept through the weekend, walking around in a complete and utter daze. This is the one gift I could only dream about and still can't believe I've been given.
Since I have a clean bill of health, No Alternative is going to start playing shows again in the New Year. I am also gearing up to apply for further research grants regarding my beloved chemistry projects, so I have my nose in advanced chemistry and mathematics books on a daily basis in an effort to get my fuel cell research on step closer to being an alternative to the energy sources that are out there. It has been my life's work (at least these last six years) to leave the planet a better place than when I entered it and this is how I'm going to do it. My research group, Rogue Chemist Laboratories should have their website up soon so you can see what I'm up to. Jennifer and I will keep you posted. Ignore any typos in this post because I didn't get to sleep until 4:00 AM and I just got back up at 10:00. Thank you again for all of your support through this ordeal.

How do they scan for cancer cells? Do they check out the rest of you, too?
Looking forward to seeing what RCL is up to when you get the website launched, too. -

Wed, December 19, 2007 - 5:21 PMHey Cinthea,
To answer your question about the scan, here's what they do: NMR (Nuclear magnetic Resonating) scans are able to take a slice by slice scan of the targeted area. The actually do two scans. What makes these scans beneficial to Doctors is the simple fact that they can color code the areas they're scanning. This means hot spots or areas of mutations light up. They add a radioactive dye into your blood which causes these areas to "light up", showing the cancerous areas (if they are still there). That's basically it. The website will be up by the end of january. That's the scoop!.....JG
