Hmmmm... there seems to be a corelation between having no life & being up all night. I wonder what the average bed time is for people with No Fuckin Life?

Re: Howling at the moon...
Thu, January 19, 2006 - 11:31 PMDunno about time. But my name is based on a nocturnal plant family!!! No shit!!! :-)
I always used to joke that I was a nocturnal plant in a former life. I need sun to survive, but I'm most alert and active at night.
Well, when it came time for me to change my name after my divorce, and had the opportunity also to change my first name, which I had always wanted to do (too many Susan's in the world, and I never really identified with that name), I created the name Sulana. Based on the nocturnal plant family Solanaceae. I swapped the u for the o so that people who knew me as Sue could still call me that.
Just accepting that I'm nocturnal..... Yet a sun worshipper!!! :-) -

Re: Howling at the moon...
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 12:10 AMThat's awesome, Sulana! I learned a lot reading your post, & not just about you ;~)
I didn't know you could change your 1st name after a divorce. Now I finally have a reason to get married--so I can get divorced & change my lame-ass name. Do you know how many Jenifers there are in the world?!
So does the Solanaceae family include the venus fly trap? I vaguely remember learning in biology class that they are nocturnal.
I love being nocturnal by nature--the best things happen at night ;~)
2 o'clock in Texas & I'm still going... -

Re: Howling at the moon...
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 12:59 AMWho knew tribe could be MORE than just a wonderful waste of time?! I never expected to learn so much from a bunch of fuckers with no lives at 3 o'clock on a Friday morning. So tomatos are nocturnal? Well fuck me sideways, I did not know that ;~)
1 am? I got you beat, buddy ;~) -

Re: Howling at the moon...
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 1:05 AMAnd I freakin' live on tomatos!!! Potatos too, for that matter!!! Eggplants are also in this family.
But now, I gotta go look up Venus fly traps. I don't know 'bout those, fer sure.
My most favorite plant, flower and aroma -wise in this family, though, is the Datura. I used to grow a bunch of those in my yard. They are *amazing* plants, and their aroma is just intoxicating...... yum....... Always been smart enough, though, not to try the stuff. Fascinating as can be, but just scary enough not to go there. But I'm curious as hell to talk to anyone who has!!!
That's the thing - these plants are about the most fascinating (and tasty!) ones out there!!! :-) (and beautiful, aromatic, unique, etc......)
I'll check on those venus fly traps and get back to ya! -

Re: Howling at the moon...
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 1:13 AMOh, about the name change thing....
I think technically you can only change your last name with a divorce. I just had strong intent, and managed to sneak the first name change in too, with the help of my attorney.
Basically, there's a box that said something like "restore wife's name to maiden name, specify:" so you check the box, then the attorney types in the (supposed, in my case!) maiden name. Whatever gets typed in there, gets recorded as the new, legal name.
Well, if anyone had really bothered to check, they would have noticed that my new "maiden name" didn't correlate with my former "maiden name" whatsoever!!! The last name did, but that's it!!! But, nobody bothers to check!!!
And, ya talk about common names!!! As if Susan isn't common enough.... (there's already another fyf with that name!!).... I had personal encounters/confusions with *two* other Susan Schroeder's before I even got married!!!! The second one is another absolutely ridiculous, and very long story..... For another time.
So for me, becoming Susan Schroeder again, was just completely out of the question!!! Even when I was married, I was the 2nd Susan Overman in the family!!! I just couldn't get rid of that name fast enough~!!! The question was, if I could come up with something worthy of changing it to. Thankfully, I did!!! :-)

Re: Howling at the moon...
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 1:15 AMNow I'm intrigued. What's this Datura of which you speak? And why are you afraid to "TRY" the stuff? Hmmmm? ;~)
No wonder tobacco has been so fuckin hard for me to give up...it's nocturnal too. And eggplants & tomatoes? I have to make eggplant parmesian at least once a week, it calls out to me & I must answer--NOW I know why!

Re: Howling at the moon...
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 1:18 AMDo you know of jimsonweed? same basic thing, but in "tree" form. Nearly all of the flower photos in my profile are daturas!! or other Solanaceaes!! :-) Incl. petunias, peppers, nicotiania... hmmm I forget what else I have there..... -

Re: Howling at the moon...
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 5:00 PMVenus fly trap - family Droseraceae, otherwise known as the sundew family. I didn't see any indication that they are nocturnal, per se, and I'd guess sundew might mean like Morning Dew?
So no, no relation to my family! ;-) -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.

Re: Howling at the moon...
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 5:34 PMI usually surrender about 5:30/6 am after I read the morning paper.
I try to get up at the crack of noon. With a power-nap in the afternoon, I do alright.
