Sheesh, talk about no fuckin life! My youngest just finished barfing (our third round of THAT this winter), and now my nearly-five-year-old has chicken pox. I had him vaccinated for it, which I'm told wasn't a complete waste of time because he won't suffer as much or as long, but still. Now we're in isolation for several days. And, I might just see others of my kids breaking out in pox in 16 to 21 days.
The fun is never-ending! Who's up for a nice root canal? Maybe we can get a group rate ...

Re: I win again
Thu, February 2, 2006 - 3:41 AMAndrea, why is it that I'm starting to see an animated series based on your life with your kids? Kinda like the Simpsons, but way more twisted - like some of those other ones that are out now - 'cept that I don't tend to watch those.... I'm sure others of you know what I mean.....
;-) :-) :-)
Love ya sista!! Hang in there!!! -

Re: I win again
Thu, February 2, 2006 - 11:43 AMI didn't know there was a vaccine for Chicken Pox. But really, when kids are young, chicken pox is not that bad. I remember it. In fact I don't know why people quarentine themselves with it.
Sorry you're going through all this Andrea.

Re: I win again
Thu, February 2, 2006 - 11:52 AMThe vaccine is kind of new in this country, maybe only available over the past ten years? My oldest got it about seven years ago, and that was pretty early on. it's been used in Europe for much longer. Although the diease, as you said, isn't that bad, and if you're going to get it anyway, the vaccine is kind of pointless.
It's true, chicken pox aren't too bad. Especially Since Keiran was vaccinated, he's had a very easy time with it. He's only got about 20 spots, they aren't too itchy, and he hasn't had a fever or anything. The schools don't like kids with it to come to school to prevent others from getting it. It's supposed to be problematic (I think!) for babies less than one year old, pregnant women, and adults who've never been exposed.
We have had bad health luck this winter, that's for sure. I guess (hope!) that means we'll be all the more healthy in the spring, which is good so my mom will be able to visit. She'll be going through chemo, which knocks down your immunity, so we would have to avoid her if the kids are sick. -

Thu, February 2, 2006 - 11:58 AMWell Many Blessings of Health, Happiness, and Prosperity to you and your wonderful family, Andrea!!
I saw my shadow this morning, which means an early spring and 6 more weeks of drum solos.

Re: I win again
Thu, February 2, 2006 - 1:20 PMThanks, everyone, I'm soaking up the healing vibes and the rays on this day of light. The thing that I always thought was weird about the groundhog is that if he sees his shadow (because it's sunny out), we get 6 more weeks of winter, and if he doesn't (because it's cloudy), we have an early spring. Seems to me that if it is sunny in early February, maybe we'd have an early spring and vice versa ... Idiot rodent.
And the isolation I was worried about turned out to be the opposite: I got to see a friend I haven't seen in a while because she's dying for her child to catch chicken pox. He hasn't been vaccinated, and she won't be able to register him at the school she wants next year if he hasn't had either the vaccine or the disease because they require one or the other. The kids must have thought she was nuts--she kept encouraging her son to give Keiran hugs and to share his water bottle.
