Anybody got a body count? Live ones, I mean...

Was it anywhere near last year's 31,000?

  • Yes, I'd love to know the actual number as well! (Or the "guesstimated" actual number. ;P ) From what I saw, my guess would be "Yes, it was at least as many folks attending as last year". But I could be wrong...

(I *did* overhear Mark talking about expanding... )
    • These are very unofficial numbers I heard from the weekend.

I heard we got 14,900 for Saturday and 16,000 for Sunday.

Looks like we were very close to the numbers we pulled last year, and without a Pirates movie opening the week before!
      • That's great news...and I hope the merchants did decent business as well.

I'd be willing to help put up posters next year, as many people I talked to in SF had NO idea it was going on. I printed something for the office break room, but there are a couple merchants in my neighborhood who were willing to put them up.
      • The 14,900 number was 5pm on Saturday (We were open till 7pm) This was the number Mark gave the reporter over the radio.

I worked tear down. From what I heard was that pretty much everyone made their marks. At least this year we were more prepared for the attendance.

There was some talk on expansion during tear down. While the site can handle a few more, we have maxed out the parking spaces. Volunteering at front gate and information I heard this a lot, that It took some folk a bit of time to locate parking. On the flip side, I got a lot of positive feedback with almost nothing negative.

We can always use more volunteers, Especially at the front to help greet the guests.
        • It was over 34,000 this year! And yes, we did make our goals! Wooooo hoooooo!

It went by so fast, and we're still recuperating...

        • I personally overheard at least three conversations (of non-dressing patrons) praising the free admission, so that's gotta be a big help in the positive feelings. :)
        • Re "maxed out the parking spaces"

Is there any way to collect parking fees for the nearby parking lots? That plus a request on the official website to please carpool - and maybe a carpool message board so people can make carpooling arrangements - might help bring in more people with fewer cars. Then the parking fees could go towards supporting the festival (like shade, maybe? or a shuttle to a more distant parking lot?) but festival admission could remain free.
          • Since the parking is city thing I doubt the pirate fest would see any money from it but considering Vallejo's current finance situation they could use the money themselves.
  • I was there on Saturday from before noon till almost 6 pm. There were only three other cars in the parking lot of fifty spaces besides the two of ours (and we walked to our car twice, left one car for awhile to run errends and came back). It's just people don't know where to park. but living here and talking to other friends who lived right across the street from the Marina, the parking wasn't that bad, might not have been able to park up front in the ferry parking lot, but the library (right behind the ferry parking)always seemed to have spots all through saturday.
