You wonderful Buff-Buff Buffalo Gals really outdid yourselves! I came up for both the Hafla and the Gala, and both were incredibly fabulous. What can I say...I love me some NoMi!
The Church is such a great venue. The teachers and classes had me green with envy sitting on the sidelines, and the vendors had so many divine temptations to choose from. And the NoMitini...pure yummyness in a glass.
I loved seeing so many wonderful people, even if it was for a quick hello or hug. The performances were phenomenal, and each and every performer reminded me how much I love bellydance.
Again, thank you all so much! I hope to see you soon...and I can't wait for NoMi the third!

Re: Thank you Kadri & Heartbeat of the East
Sun, July 15, 2007 - 9:55 AMI couldn't agree more with Lisa's comments. I attended only the Friday night hafla, and had a great time. My friends and I loved the different styles of dances, great costuming, wonderful venue - loved sitting in the balcony!
As someone whose career is planning and executing events, I really can appreciate how much work you put into the organization of the classes to the hafla to the promotion to the venue set up and every detail in between. And you did this in your "spare time." I can't imagine what you might have done to make it better!
I hope you all are very proud of this event!!

Re: Thank you Kadri & Heartbeat of the East
Sun, July 15, 2007 - 9:06 PMKadri and the whole NoMi Gals and Guys thank you so much for having us. Chuck says thank you too. He says he feels like you are family since he came alone last year and you all made him feel right at home and I agree with him 100% after my experience. We are taking a night halt in Washington PA and will head home in the morning. You all did a great job and the show and the teachers were wonderful.

Re: Thank you Kadri & Heartbeat of the East
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 9:07 AMI'm definatly honored to be part of this festival, this city, and most of all part of HBE. I've never been to other dance festivals but I can't imagine any of them being as attentive to their guests as NoMi was. Buffalo is a fabulous city and the venue was perfect. Thanks to Kadri and the NoMi committee for everything...for bringing this amazing festival to Buffalo and for bringing us all together to meet and learn and grow :) I can't imagine how this festival can get any better (you all made sure of that :). The teachers you brought in were awesome and the set up, including the casbah and the layout were great.
And thanks to the teachers for traveling here to teach us :)
Thanks so much! -

Mon, July 16, 2007 - 1:26 PMSo, it is too late for the 2007 Zaghareet awards - they clearly don't go on the calendar year, but why not get a heads up for the 2008 awards?

Re: Thank you Kadri & Heartbeat of the East
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 1:36 PMNorthern Migration Rocked My Socks!
The Church is the best venue i think i have ever seen, and was the coolest place i have performed at yet!
The Heartbeat of the East gals were completely awesome, and were cool and collected and amazing even with all the hustle and bustle of organizing, keeping schedules, working with those who travelled in from all over...they never missed a beat!
This IS a great festival, and i hope for many more years of Northern Migration to come!
Kadri is a goddess and a woman of incredible talent and vision and talent! Keith deserves a round of applause, he's a very cool guy and a great multi-tasker and is awesome behind the scenes, and Keegan is the CUTEST thing evah in her little ruffley red ruffle pants! Jenna is the epitome of sweet, Leslie is awesome and gobs of fun to hang out with and ooohh has such a delicious sinister thread to her *muahhahahha*. Imbi is a trooper, up till the wee hours of the mornin' and still pleasant and welcoming to everyone.
Fantastic Job by everyone all around, i was so happy to be there.

Re: Thank you Kadri & Heartbeat of the East
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 4:31 AMI've been trying to put this into words since I got home, and I still can't really find them.
Thank you. Thank you for the beautiful venue, the amazing lineup of classes, the fantastic instructors who were not only great dancers and teachers but really lovely people, the phenomenal shows (2 of them!?!?!?), the chance to meet new friends (and old friends whom I'd never actually met in person!), the amazing, welcoming, loving atmosphere, people who were willing to be helpful and caring while still being professional and keeping things running smoothly, being kind to me when I was sick and a little cranky, and for having the raffle that made it possible for me to be there in the first place!
I am inspired, I am awed, I am humbled, I am uplifted... I am tired. But it was all worth it :)

Re: Thank you Kadri & Heartbeat of the East
Mon, July 16, 2007 - 7:57 PMNo Mi Rocked this year! The venue was perfect. Lots of space, lots of bathrooms, the casbar, and a place to sit and watch from if you were too tired to join in class! :-) Lots of restaurants to choose from. Near by hotels. Everything was in walking distance. Even Starbucks!
The Hafla and Gala were excellent and the perfomers were beautiful and talented. The teachers that came in for the weekend each had a unique lesson to share.
A special thanks to Kadri, Heartbeat of the East, Keith, Leslie, Diana, Jenna (thanks for the ride to class.. that was perfect timing!!) and all the volunteers who have made this event so special..and make all of us want to come back for more!
Can't wait for next year!

Re: Thank you Kadri & Heartbeat of the East
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 9:15 AMMy first 'ATS' style Banjara choli, came from them, too. I remember looking at it when I was at a workshop in Syracuse... and out loud I had said, "These NEVER fit over my chest." and Chuck said, "I have ones that were specifically built for larger chests." ... I couldn't effin believe it.... he DID. And it was worth every penny!!!

Re: shout out from tribal feat :-P
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 9:44 PMhooray for gnome-ee! i loved seeing all the familiar faces (you know who you are) and getting to meet some new faces as well. what a great dance community in NY!
imbi was right:
<If you need ANYTHING while you are at the festival, look for a volunteer or staff member. We will all be wearing light blue NoMi T's and will be wearding ID badges. It is part of our mission to make Northern Migration the most "user friendly" dance festival of its kind!>
thank yous kadri for hosting one of the most organized 2nd annual events in the states. cynthia and i had a blast, yep, even through all the freaky friday happenings!! and thanks for the welcome goodie bags. those blue buffalo cookies turned everyone's mouths blue- HA! i've been enjoying my banana-scented candle, i would have never bought that flavor, but it's actually quite nice! thank you kadri's parents, vicky, and keith for transportation. and lastly, you couldn't have found a more gorgeous venue...

Re: Thank you Kadri & Heartbeat of the East
Wed, July 18, 2007 - 5:59 AMWhat can I say that hasn't been said already? Well, being a Leo, I know that no amount of praise is ever too much.
Kadri, it is truly an honor to be your student, as well as friend (and tattooist!). I love the fact that you know me SO well, that you could tell when I needed help and you just ...well, did your thing to help make it click. You rock, I love you.
UnaHajra ladies, it was a joy working with you and getting to know you on a more personal level. I'm including the stunning Miss Oolima in this because, well, setting up Ze Casbah and flinging sparklies all over the place, it was like 3 little ocd girls obsessed with symmetry found their counterparts for an evening! It was worth ALL the dust in my eyes : )
Zafira's friday workshop was my very first workshop ever. I walked away not only having learned new stuff, but I learned it from 2 women who were just amazing, inside and out.
Thank you Olivia and Maria, for being the incredible ladies you are, who I am tickled pink to call friends.
Amy, next year, NoMi & Tattoos. We're so on!
I know there is so much more to say, but the words have left me at the moment.
I love all of you and thank you for this amazing experience.
I'm proud to be an HBE girl!!
