From Guedra magazine:
Shafeek Ibrahim, founder of the UK national bellydance competition, wishes to hold a regional heat for this year's competition in Cardiff on Saturday Spetember 1st. He needs at least 10 applicants to make the heat viable. He'll be looking to put between 3 and 5 people forward to the final.
There are no criteria to apply - no age limit. Shafeek and Maria are not looking for perfection, they are looking for individuality, charisma and passion. You will be judged on technique, content, choreography, musical interpretaion etc, and there will be more details of this on the application form, and your dance must be Oriental or Raqs Sharki style - no fusion and no tribal (that's me out then!)
Shafeek has been concerned that there won't be enough people from this area to go ahead with the heat in Cardiff. He is worried that people are scared, or feel worriedabout entering. Don't let this opportunity pass and then regret your decision.
You can find out more at www.freewebs.com/bellydancecompetition, and find out more about last year's winner at www.amunetorientaldance.co.uk
It would really cool if someone from North Wales entered - there's bags of passion and good dancing in this area. Please, somebody go for it!
