NW England ATS classes.

I've been taken on to teach bellydance lessons again by my local college and I have persuaded them that these should be ATS.
There are mainstream BD classes in close proximity.That's one reason but also I keep reading how folks can't find ATS classes. So if any NW tribal dancer is without get in touch .

Tribal in South Wales - anyone anyone??

Hi there Tribalistas!!

I'm new to this part of the world and have been living in South Wales (near Cowbridge, 20 mins from Cardiff) for the last 2 months in a beautiful community called Coed Hills Rural Art Space (www.coedhills.co.uk).
I'm originally from Sydney, Aust. but have been travelling the globe since last year and wherever possible have been trying to run workshops to introduce as many women as possible to this beautiful dance form.

Anyway, I'm heading off to continue my travels in September but before I do, I will be running a teeny but fab
'Introduction to Tribal Bellydance Workshop for Beginners' here at the Art Space.

My question to you is:

Are there any other Tribal Bellydancers in the South Wales area?
If so, show yourselves!!
As I will be leaving the country shortly after the workshop, I would like to refer any potential keen attendees to an
ongoing tribal bellydance class in the South Wales area.
So - if you are, or know of anyone who is teaching in the area, please let me know and I will pass any potential students on to you if you so wish. Just message me here on Tribe and we can discuss further...

My other question to you all is:

Would you like to come along??
I cordially invite all and any tribal bellydancers to come along.
I will most likely be doing an impromptu performance of improvised ATS after the workshop - BUT - this would be SO much more
FUN with other ATS DANCERS!!!
So, I guess this is an invitation of sorts to any of you who'd like to come and have a bit of a jam, meet other dancers in the area and
have some fun while you're at it!

Just in case any of you live in and around Merseyside and are looking for a bellydance filled night out, there are 2 events coming up.
1.Sat 8th Sept the Arabic Dance Showcase at the Unity theatre Liverpool and if you fancy it a post show meal at Afifi's retsaurant.
2. The first NW NADA platform for dancers in this area (and not so far off eg NWales)to show off their wares!!This is to be held in Formby between Liverpool and Southport

Wrokshop and Hafla in Wrexham April 26th

Hi All

We're holding our annual workshop and hafla event in Wrexham on April 26th 2008.

The workshop will be with Dawn O'Brien teaching 3 gruelling but fun hours of Tribal Fusion. £20 per head, in the mirrored Dance Studio at NEWI, 2pm- 5pm.

Followed by a hafla at the Memorial Hall in Wrexham with buffet, souk, bar and performance platform, £4 performers/£6 non-performers, 7.30 til 11pm. All proceeds from the hfala to go to Nightingale House.

Drumming workshop - testing the waters.

One of my students has contact with a drummer who runs workshops. She also has contacts with the Flintshire Youth Service who have drums. Would anybody be interested in taking part in a drumming workshop? It would probably have to happen in Mold, as that is where the drums are. Date and time TBA.

National UK Bellydance Contest, Welsh heat

From Guedra magazine:

Shafeek Ibrahim, founder of the UK national bellydance competition, wishes to hold a regional heat for this year's competition in Cardiff on Saturday Spetember 1st. He needs at least 10 applicants to make the heat viable. He'll be looking to put between 3 and 5 people forward to the final.

There are no criteria to apply - no age limit. Shafeek and Maria are not looking for perfection, they are looking for individuality, charisma and passion. You will be judged on technique, content, choreography, musical interpretaion etc, and there will be more details of this on the application form, and your dance must be Oriental or Raqs Sharki style - no fusion and no tribal (that's me out then!)

Shafeek has been concerned that there won't be enough people from this area to go ahead with the heat in Cardiff. He is worried that people are scared, or feel worriedabout entering. Don't let this opportunity pass and then regret your decision.

Who came and watched and danced and ate and rank and sweated at Raqs in Wrexham last night! The room was hot , and the dancefloor was smokin'. We had some amazing performances from dancers near and far, and I think everyone went home with a smile on their face.

The event raised £70 for Nightingale House, which is not too shabby. We could have raised more if we'd spent less on food, and charged more on the door, but the object of the exercise was to throw a good party for all our mates; raising money for our favourite charity was purely incidental.

Raqs In Wrexham!

Hi all!

I hope its not too premature, but I'd like the thank Bridie and anyone else who's helped get Raqs organised! I think its a brilliant idea. I'm still new to Belly Dancing, I've only been at it a year, I'm keen to see/do/dance more events. So this for me is an ideal event.

I'm really looking forwards to it (and am incredibly nervous!), and I look forwards to seeing you all in person.

OK, that's the length and breadth of my Welsh language skills, but welcome anyway!

I know there are a lot of us out there, I'm just not sure how many are on Tribe.net yet.

This group is for all of us. Please use it to publicize your events, classes, trips, whatever.

It's for all over North Wales, but also events around the North West and West Midlands too. We may even let people from south of the Brecon Beacons join in, if they play nice ;)

Make of it what you will, people :)
