Hello all,

Just a quick reminder that this Saturday, 31 May, is the closing date for Nowhere ticket sales at the €90 price. After 31 May, tickets will be available for €120 through the end of June. We do still encourage everyone to buy the highest priced ticket they can afford to help us to be able to continue to offer the lower priced tickets to those who need them. Camp Numbers

Last year our camp was too big and became difficult to manage and didn't really feel that connected. This was partly because we needed the numbers to split the camp fee properly.

I think we should limit our numbers to 15 people this year.

So could anyone who is definitely camping with the Nowhere Saloon please state so and if you have anyone you want to camp with us, try to sort it out as soon as possible. I'd like to have the numbers settled by April. This leaves us time to prepare some fun camp stuff like wanted posters of different camp members, create Wild West camp names for everyone and generally gel as a camp well before heading to Spain.

Camp Meeting / Western Movie Marathon!

Anyone up for a Western Movie Marathon / Camp Meeting? Could try to double it up with The George fundraiser party I'm holding on Saturday 16th Feb to make the journey more worth while. Adam could we borrow your projector?

Just watched '3:10 To Yuma', would definitely recommend.

Anyone else care to suggest their favourite Western?

Also, is anyone up for holding a camp fundraiser in April/May?

The Saloon

So we use the bare frame from the pagoda and buy a load of planks that are 4m long. We can screw these to the walls to create solid walls we can hang stuff off, maybe even fit a window frame with shutters to let light in if we want it. Inside the saloon we build a bar into the corner and have a shit load of shelves behind it stocked almost entirely with Whiskey. We can have a small table and some chairs in another corner.

Sugar Glass (for smashing bottles in bar fights, etc)

I've found several recipes for making and molding sugar glass, but it seems that it get's fucked up in the heat. We could perhaps make it on site, pour into bottle molds and then put in a cooler and only take out directly before use? It's a really simple recipe to follow, though I'm not sure how easy it would be to mold into a bottle shape.

Experimentation awaits!

Ingredients:

2 cups of water
1 cup of pale corn syrup
3 1/2 cups of sugar

What to do:

You will need a thermometer to measure the temperature of your mixture. Mix everything together and bring it to a boil (this happens at approximately 100 - 110 ° C, depending on the quality of the syrup). Leave it boiling for about 15 minutes, but try to keep the temperature stable.

Then, after the 15 minutes, let the temperature rise to 50 ° C hotter than its boiling temperature (if yours boiled at 105, cut it off at 155 ° C). This should take a little less than an hour, during which most of the water boils away, and the mixture becomes fairly thick.

When you hit your temperature, pour your sugar glass on a thick glass plate (if you are trying to make window pane) or a mold (if anything else) and let it cool off.

Wild West Names

Suggestions for camp members alter egos? I want to make some Wanted posters for some outlaws and newspaper front pages for the law keepers.

Buffalo Josh, etc.

But I think we shouldn't be able to pick our own names.

waterpistol quickdraw contests,
whip cracking,
lasso training,
hippie herding,
ho-downing,
tobacco spitting competitions,
raver rustling,
bar fighting,
some sort of rodeo,
a self-playing piano that can be made to stop each time someone opens the door,
stunt play with falling off the roof?
shooting range with air rifles,
toy horses (or possibly horse heads we can attach to bicycles?) and a "stable"

Please add anything you can think of to this list.

Camp Shade

damn it, I wrote a massive explanation of the parachute shade structure I want to build for a camp and then accidentally pressed the "back" button on my stupid work mouse. All the text is lost now and I can't be bothered to retype it all.

Basically as most of the cost of our camp is already sorted, I think we should buy a massive parachute and create a shade structure that we can hang out under and pitch our tents under (doubling up on the shade!).

The people I camped with at Burning Man had a really good workable system that I'd like to try and imitate.

It would be the very first thing we build, so we have somewhere to get out of the sun when we're building the pagoda *ahem*, I mean saloon.
