Re: Ordering supplies
Thu, May 15, 2008 - 9:55 PMI was just curious. I have a local store that has everything I need and if they don’t have it they can usually find it.
But I am working on my own online store and wondering if there is a big demand for it right now.
As it is most of my products will be catering more to the fae world but I am in touch with some amazing craftspeople and look forward to meeting more at festivals and gatherings. This way I can ensure my products are high quality.
Already being a sales person of sorts it makes me feel sick to sell something that is not of good quality. -

Re: Ordering supplies
Fri, May 16, 2008 - 12:12 AMonline stores can be hard to make money on...
there are already a few out there...unless you sell something really different and rare...you will find getting some sales and not tons as you would like
the best combo would be an online store with festival vending...people who meet you in festivals always want to be able to order more during the non-festival seasons...and this will get you tons of clients..
online stores really do well with tons of marketing...you would need to constantly work on getting your site noticed...however if you do festivals...you gain a clientele that;s more committed vs random buyers which is what online is like.... -

Re: Ordering supplies
Fri, May 16, 2008 - 4:51 AMThe last time I looked online for something I didn't find what I wanted because every website had the same thing. I'd like unique looking jewelry, pentacles, rings, earrings, etc.

Yep. It's helpful if you know something about search engine optimization. Online marketing can be very effective, but it takes quite a bit of work. There's a fine line between spamming and advertising, too... Got to be careful. Connecting it with offline, festival promotion is great... taking out print ads (even classified) in appropriate magazines... and offering sample sales on ebay can all be useful.
Most important aspect of marketing online (and off) is the USP - unique sales position. What do you offer that others don't? You might even carry the same products as another vendor, but beat them out if your USP is friendly sales contact, a humorous touch, faster or cheaper delivery, etc. For marketing purposes, you need to be able to sum up your USP in a single sentence or two: The only online source for genuine [fill in the blank] products at affordable prices. Unique products with friendly service. Etc... (only be more creative about it!). -
