The Moon - History, Ritual and more
Wed, January 11, 2006 - 7:49 AMI've copied and pasted this information I found...
The Moon. For Wiccans, it is far more than a heavenly body that might catch our eye as we drive home late at night, its fullness shining through trees or brightly overhead. For many Wiccan, she is the embodiment of the Goddess, she is Maiden, Mother and Crone. It is also an important source of natural energy that is essential in magick, if you preform your spells and rituals at the right lunar phase. Preforming spells during the wrong phase of the moon can seriously debilitate the spell, producing no result or possibly the wrong result. The Wheel of the Moon, is approximately 28 1/2 days long, waxing to Full Moon and waning to New Moon.
Waxing Moon means the moon is getting larger in the sky, moving from the New Moon towards the Full Moon. This is a time for spells that attract, that bring positive change, spells for love, good luck, growth. This is a time for new beginnings, to conceptualize ideas, to invoke. At this time the moon represents the Goddess in her Maiden aspect, give praise to Epona, Artemis or one of the other Maiden Goddesses. The period of the waxing moon lasts about 14 days.
Full Moon is when the moon has reached its zenith, it forms a perfect silvery sphere in the sky. This is a time for spells that transform, increase pyschic ability, for fertility spells and invocation to lunar goddesses. This is a time of strength, love and power. At this time the moon represents the Goddess in her Mother aspect, give praise to Cerridwen, Isis or one of the other Mother Goddesses. The period of the Full Moon lasts from about 3 days before to 3 days after the actual full moon.
Waning Moon means the moon is decreasing in size, moving from the Full Moon towards the New Moon. This is a time for spells that banish, release, reverse. This is a time to break bad habits or bad addictions, to end bad relationships. This is a time of deep intuition and a time for divination. At this time the moon represents the Goddess in her Crone Aspect, give praise to Hecate, Morrigan or one of the other Crone Goddesses. The period of the waning moon lasts about 14 days.
As the Wheel of the Moon continues on its never ending course, the moon also travels through the different astrological signs, just as the sun does, only more rapidly. When the moon resides within the various signs, the sign influences the magickal aspect of the moon.
EARTH spells should be preformed when the moon is in one of the astrological signs governed by that element: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn.AIR spells should be preformed when the moon is in one of the astrological signs governed by that element: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius.FIRE spells should be performed when the moon is in one of the astrological signs governed by that element: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius.WATER spells should be preformed when the moon is in one of the astrological signs governed by that element: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces.
Moon in ARIES is the best time for spells involving authority, rebirth, leadership; healing spells of the face and head.
Moon in TAURUS is the best time for spells involving love, money, acquisition; healing spells for the throat and neck.
Moon in GEMINI is the best time for spells involving communication, writing, travel; healing spells for the arms, hands, and lungs.
Moon in CANCER is the best time for spells involving the home and for honoring lunar gods and goddesses; healing of the chest and stomach.
Moon in LEO is the best time for spells involving authority, courage, fertility; healing of the upper back, spine, heart.
Moon in VIRGO is the best time for spells involving employment, health, diet; healing of the intestines and nervous system.
Moon in LIBRA is the best time for spells involving justice, unions, balance (spiritual and otherwise), artistry; healing of the lower back and kidneys.
Moon in SCORPIO is the best time for spells involving power, psychic growth, sex; healing of the reproductive organs.
Moon in SAGITTARIUS is the best time for spells involving travel, sports, truth, horses; healing of the liver and thighs.
Moon in CAPRICORN is the best time for spells involving organization, ambition, career, politics; healing of the knees, bones, teeth, skin.
Moon in AQUARIUS is the best time for spells involving science, freedom, friendship, breaking bad habits or addictions; healing of the calves, ankles, blood.
Moon in PISCES is the best time for spells involving music, art, telepathy, dreams; healing of the feet and lymph glands.
In magick, timing is very important. In the calendar are listed the times of the New Moon, Full Moon and when it enters a new quarter, as well as the times when the moon enters the various astrological signs, but these times are general Eastern Standard Times. For those residing in the United States, an accurate listing of the Full and New Moon, Sun and Moon rises and sets, as well as times of Planet rises and sets, I highly recommend checking outThe Old Farmer's Almanac Home Page. This page can be very helpful, especially for those of us that don't have a clue what the difference is between a degree and a minute. Explore the page and you will also find some of the most interesting tidbits of Americana. Enjoy. -

Moon Meaning
Wed, January 11, 2006 - 7:55 AMEach Full Moon has a different meaning and magickal purpose. Because of this, it is a good idea to plan your Full Moon Rituals to work with the meaning and purpose of the Moon. The Full Moon is also a traditional time for divinations of all kinds, as the power of the Moon aids in such work.
November ~ Snow Moon: Plan for a ritual to work on ridding yourself of negative thoughts and vibrations.
December ~ Oak Moon: Plan for a ritual to help you remain steadfast in your convictions.
January ~ Wolf Moon: Plan a ritual of protection around your home and family.
February ~ Storm Moon: Plan a ritual to ask the Old Ones for help in planning your future.
March ~ Chaste Moon: Plan a ritual to help fulfill your wishes is appropriate.
April ~ Seed Moon: Plan a ritual to physically plant your seeds of desire in Mother Earth.
May ~ Hare Moon: Plan a ritual to reaffirm your goals.
June ~ Dyad Moon: Plan a ritual to balance your spiritual and physical desires.
July ~ Mead Moon: Plan a ritual to decide what you will do once your goals have been met.
August ~ Wort Moon: Plan a ritual to preserve what you already have.
September ~ Barley Moon: Plan a ritual of Thanksgiving for all the Old Ones have given you.
October ~ Blood Moon: Plan a ritual to remember those who have passed from this world, and be sure to make an offering to them.
If you want to gain something (friendship, money, job, intelligence) do your magick during the WAXING MOON (when the moon is getting full)
If you want to lose something (bad habits, negative energy) do your magick during the WANING MOON (when the moon is getting small)
The FULL MOON is a good time for magick of all kinds, for the full moon brings great power to all magick.
The NEW MOON is useful for starting new ventures.

Scott Cunningham's Full Moon Rite
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 8:15 PMPerform this ritual at night in view of the Full Moon if possible. If not, fill a cauldron with water and place a piece of silver in it.
Cast the circle and invoke the Goddess and God and anyone else you chose to invoke.
Gaze at the moon or your "moon" in your cauldron. Feel its cool Goddess energy wash you with power and love. Say these words.
Wondrous Lady of the Moon
You who greets the dark with silvered kisses
Mistress of the night and all magicks,
who rides the clouds in blackened skies
and spills light upon cold Earth.
Oh Lunar Goddess
Crescent one
Shadow maker and shadow breaker,
Revealer of mysteries past and present,
Puller of seas and ruler of women
All-wise Lunar Mother
I greet your celestial jewel
at the waxing of its powers
with a rite in Your honor
I prey by the moon
I prey by the moon
I prey by the moon
Continue chanting "I prey by the moon" while visualizing the goddess.
Now is the time to work magick or meditation. Crystal scrying is particularly recommended (you can use the silver in the cauldron for this).
Enjoy a simple feast. Thank the Goddess and God and release the circle.

Full Moon Ritual
Thu, January 12, 2006 - 8:17 PMOn the night of a full moon, whether you can literally see its brilliant face or not, this ritual is engaging.
Stay inside if it is more practical or journey out into nature if surroundings, safety and space permits. Always be cautious and use common sense.
As this is a simple full moon ritual you will not need any magickal tools or enhancements. However, please feel free to add your own touches. They may include incense or aromatherapy items, soothing music, candles or your favorite magickal gemstones.
How to perform this ritual:
First you must cast an invisible circle around yourself. Point your first and second fingers of your right hand (as if giving a blessing) down at the ground and turn in a circle clockwise. While turning visualize you are drawing a circle of white light around yourself. This is a form of protection. Everything is safe within the circle.
Now sit on the floor or in a chair you have included in your circle. Sit facing any direction you are drawn to as your inner voice knows what directional energy you need to tap into.
Close your eyes and visualize a bright white light ascending up from your toes to the top of your head until you are filled with this healing and soothing energy.
Say out loud or to yourself: "Moon above encompass me... empower me."
Now sit for a while and "just be." Think of something you want that will improve your life.
When you feel you have been heard by the God of your understanding or whatever it is you call your higher power, end by saying: "And so it is."
Visualize the circle of light you cast ascending above you until it travels so high into the universe it disappears, (you are releasing your circle).
Remember, never wish harm to yourself or others. We are all connected on a universal level and love is the most powerful magick of all.
May the God or Good in me, recognize the God or Good in you!

New Beginnings Ceremony
Sat, January 14, 2006 - 8:09 AMThe new moon is my favorite of all the moon phases. Perhaps it is the dark side of the moon concept of unseen forces that intrigues me. This is not to say that the beauty of the full moon doesn't take my breath away...it does. I can say that I have never howled at a full moon, but people have been known to get a bit crazed during a full moon, just ask your local bar keep or the night nurse working the midnight shift at the trauma center.
In choosing the moon as a topic in healing I would suggest a simple new moon ceremony to manifest your desires, your wishes, healing, and well-being into your life. Any intentions stated or written down carries power, so be clear on what it is you would like to create in your life. The saying, be careful what you ask for, you might get it is fair warning in moving forward with a new moon intention ritual. Sponsored Links
Once you have set your new moon intention, it need not be set in stone. The moon has its phases and so do our individual wants and needs. This is why it is a good practice to rededicate your list of intentions each month. Changes can also be made mid-cycle, but I have found them not to be as powerful. I am a member of an online discussion list whose members participates in a group new moon intention each month. The power of the group dynamic of this has proved to have postive changes for all of us.
New Moon Manifestation Preparation
Check the calendar for the next upcoming new moon.
Set aside 20-30 minutes to do the ritual itself.
Supply suggestions: 2 Notebooks, colored pens, scissors, scotch tape, candle, matches, incense, smudge sticks, flower essences, etc.
Prepare yourself a sacred space to perform the ceremony at.
Setting your New Moon Intentions in Motion
Cleanse your sacred area with an opening prayer, a sage smudging, and/or by burning some incense.
Light one or more candles.
Center your being and calm yourself in whatever way is appropriate for you. You might enjoy sipping on a cup of chamomile or mint tea. I also have a special blend of flower essences that I use specifically for manifesting rituals that works well enough.
Open your notebook, and date it. Write down these words or similar words. "I accept these things into my life now or something better for my highest good and for the highest good of all concerned." Below this statement, begin writing down your desires. Your list may consist of only one item or you may have several pages written down. Try not to limit yourself. If having many things in your life helps to fulfill you then don't deny yourself wanting these things.
During the month when an item on your new moon list comes to you, don't merely cross it off of your list, take the time to rewrite the list in its entirety eliminating the manifested item from the listing. This is highly recommended. At the same time you may add whatever else that you have decided you would like. Feel free to reword any of the original phrases if they better fit your life now. It is only natural that your desires change over days/weeks/ months/years.
The second notebook will be used as a scrapbook where you paste in pictures or catalog clippings of items that you want to manifest. This is a fun project so enjoy yourself. You will soon be amazed how these things begin to find their way into your life once you start this practice. I pasted a photo of a spa in my scrapbook and manifested it in just a few months time.
Rededicating your New Moon Intentions
Each month at the new moon you rededicate your intentions by renewing the list at a repeated ritual. This is accomplished by rewriting them out, removing the items that no longer feed your soul and adding those that do. I like to salt and pepper my manifest list with smaller items that will manifest quickly, such as tickets to the ballet, or lunch with a friend, or a day of all play and no work. You may think that these are such small things that they don't apply or are not worth writing down. Wrong! Believing that these are things that we can easily acquire so its not really manifesting upsets the balance. Manifesting smaller items on our lists actually gives life to the list. These smaller manifestations create movement.....an ebb and flow of the tides. We are dealing here with the moon cycles after all. Besides, sometimes we forget to enjoy the smaller pleasures in our lives while we are waiting for the BIG stuff to come in. If you only write statements like, "I want to win the lottery" in your notebook then you are limiting yourself by not allowing abundance to flow to you from other avenues. -

Waning Moon Ritual
Sat, January 14, 2006 - 8:16 AMLetting Go Moon Rituals
New moon ceremonies having to do with creation, manifestation, birth, and rebirth.
The Waning moon is at the other end of circle as it completes the cycle, it symbolizes the end chapter. This is the time of the month that rituals are done in releasing or purging the things in our lives that no longer serve us such as addictions to food, drugs, or sex, relinguishing suffering involved in hurtful relationships, discharging physical and emotional pains, etc.
The Waning Moon ceremonies listed below fairly simple, with perhaps a pinch or two of pagan tradition thrown in.
Each person in the circle takes his/her turn throwing in scraps of paper into a fire that is then watched turn into ashes. The scraps of paper have words written down on them of those things we were releasing or vowing to change in our lives. Yes, a full moon ceremony can be as simple as that.
Waning Moon Purging Preparation
Check your calendar for the next upcoming full moon.
Create a sacred space and arrange a time to perform the ceremony. My preference is at night-time and outdoors is ideal, which allows you stand under the moonlight. However, if you're a City pagan like myself..indoors works well.
Write down on separate slips of paper all the things you want to release or change.
Supply suggestions: fire proof calderon or cooking pot to toss the burning paper in, candle with matches or lighter, water (to put out the fire afterwards), and smudge sticks for cleansing.
Waning Moon Purging
Cleanse your sacred area with an opening prayer, a sage smudging, and/or by burning some incense. Invite your guides/angels/masters/teachers to be at your side throughout the ceremony.
Light one or more candles. Look to the skies. Breathe in the night air.
Read the writing on each slip of paper one at a time. Set your intention to release the item/addiction/attitude from your life. Set it to fire and place it in the calderon. Of course, if you have a campsite barbecue or bonfire going that's cool, just toss the slips of paper in one by one. If you are doing this ritual with a group of others take turns reading your words. If these things are too personal to read out loud, read them silently to yourself. Just remember.... our words have power.... Saying - "Be Gone" audibly and loudly can be very freeing. Go ahead, howl at the moon if you've a mind to.
Thank the Spirits. Be Safe. Put out the fire.

Dark Moon Ritual
Sun, January 15, 2006 - 7:16 PMThe dark moon is a good time to do protective magick and to banish things from your life.
Supplies you will need:
two black candles,
cauldron,
paper and pen.
Place the cauldron in the center of the altar and put the paper and pen beside it.
Cast the circle in a counter clockwise way. When it is cast, return to the altar and face the North.
Light the black candles.
Say:
The moon is dark.
She hides her face from humans.
Only women can know the true secrets of the Dark Mother.
Wise one, let me feel Your presence and power.
I need Your wisdom of releasing and removing.
If punishment be needed by those who work against me,
I leave it within your hands.
Move counter clockwise to the East and say:
Remove all negatives from my thoughts amd mind, Dark Mother.
Let them bear no fruit within my life.
Go to the North and say:
Remove all negatives from my body,
Dark Mother.
Let them bear no fruit in my life.
Go to the West and say:
Remove all negatives from my emotions,
Dark Mother.
Let them bear no fruit in my life.
Go to the South and say:
Remove all negatives from my spiritual life, Dark Mother.
Let them bear no fruit in my life.
Return to the altar and stand facing North.
Say :
I accept no negative thoughts, words, or deeds from others.
They ase destroyed by the powers of the Dark Mother.
If these negatives comefrom within myself, turn them into lessons of good.
Help me to become balanced, a true Goddess-daughter/son of light and wisdom.
Face the altar now. Write down on the paper negative things you wished removed from your life (ie..negative thoughts about yourself, bad habits, negative influences of people.) Read each one out loud to the Dark Mother to release them to Her. Light the paper from one of the black candles and drop it into the cauldron and watch it burn.
Say:
I release these unto Your keeping.
Show me how to move beyond these negatives into a position of light and power.
Burn the paper until it is reduced to ashes. Raise your arms in reverence to the Goddess when the paper is finished and say:
Dark Mother,
Crone Goddess,
Wise and Elder One,
teach me Your deep mysteries,
the Ancient Goddess magick known to my foremothers and fathers.
Guide and protect me, Dark Mother.
Now would be a good time to mediatate and see what insight you may receive from the Mother. Or do a spell of some sort. When finished, release the circle as usual. Bury the ashes of the paper somewhere off of your property.

Basic Information For Drawing Down The Moon
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 7:30 AMThe accumulation and direction of the subtle forces of the moon, is one of the arts of Witchcraft. Moon magic is a personal art, even though there are basic guidelines.
In ancient times, witches held the position of the Moon priestesses/priests. In coastal regions, and upon islands, witches were also Sea Priestesses/Priests. The use of water from the sea was an important aspect in Moon Magic (salt being a crystal form). The "charging" of water, and the release of the "char- ge" through evaporation, was an important aspect. So too was the soaking of woods and herbs in sea water, which were later dried, and burned as incenses and offerings. Two excellent books on this subject are MOON MAGIC and THE SEA PRIESTESS by Dion Fortune.
The use of Portals to gain access to the Lunar Realms, and the building of magical images there, is a very important aspect of Moon Magic. The actual "essence" of the power used in Moon Magic, originates out among the stars. The Sun draws in the stellar influences and transmits them into our Solar System. The Planets within our System absorb this energy which then merges with their own vibrations or energies. The Planets, in turn, then emanate a composite energy within our Solar System. Each Planet's energy or vibratory pattern is unique, and influences other planetary bodies and forces, within each planet's sphere of influence. This is the basis of Astrology and Planetary correspondences in Magic (this is how and why it works).
The Moon is the focal point of power upon the Earth. The Moon absorbs, condenses, and channels all of these forces, which are then carried to our Planet, upon the Lunar Light Spectrum.
Agrippa, a 15th Century magician, understood these principles when he wrote
"...but the Moon, the nearest to the heavenly influences, by the swiftness of her course, is joined to the sun, and the other planets and stars, as a conception, bringing them forth to the inferior world, as being next to itself, for all the stars have influence on it, being the last receiver, which afterwards communicates the influence of all superiors to these inferiors, and pours them forth upon the Earth..."
Aradia, the Holy Strega, told her followers to seek the Moon above all others, for the purposes of Magic. In the closing prayer of the Full Moon Ritual, we find these words which Aradia's followers were later to have written :
"O' Goddess of the Moon...
teach us your ancient mysteries...
that the Holy Strega spoke of,
for I believe the Strega's story,
when she told us to entreat Thee,
told us when we seek for Knowledge,
to seek and find Thee above all others".
Agrippa understood this also, when he wrote, "Therefore. her (the moon) motion is to be observed before the others, as the parent of all conception......hence it is, that without the Moon intermediating, we cannot at any time attract the power of the superiors..."
What Agrippa spoke of, is what witches have known for Ages:
The Moon is the focal point of power upon the Earth.
Without the Moon we cannot make use of the Universal Forces beyond her. In Moon Magic, the ritual altar is the focal point for the Lunar forces which are drawn upon. Women are the vessels for Lunar Energy, receiving and directing the magical force. Men can also become lunar vessels, but women are much better suited (as their biology is more attuned to the Moon's Cycles, than are men's biology).
The Moon altar is placed facing the West Quarter. The altar itself should be round, but a square or a rectangle is OK.
In the center of the altar, place a bowl of saltwater. A white sea shell is then set into the center of the bowl. As this is done, whisper the name of the Goddess who rules the current phase of the Moon, under which you are working. The new moon belongs to Diana (De-ah-nah), the Full Moon to Jana (Jah-nah) and the waning Moon to Umbrea.
Around the bottom of the bowl. set nine white shells, forming a crescent (horns upward, as in a smile). If the magic is for the gain of something, place the shells from right to left. If the magic is for the removal, or loss of something, then place the shells from left to right. As each shell is placed, chant the name of the Goddess who presides over the goal of the magical influence you desire.
Matters concerning "beginnings" are under Diana. Matters involving "forces", energies, or powers are under the influence of Jana. Matters of Death, decline, and stagnation are ruled by Umbrea.
Censers of Moon Incense are placed around the bowl, upon the altar, forming a triangle (so you have 3 incense containers forming a triangle, with the Moon Bowl in its center). A reversed triangle (V) is formed for manifestations desired upon the physical plane. Upright triangles (A) are formed for manifestation upon the astral plane.
During the magical work, the energy is focused into the altar bowl (or moon bowl, as it is often called). This can be done in several different ways. In group rituals, members may point their ritual blades at the Priestess, who stands before the altar. The members visualize their energy flowing from their themselves, through their blades, and into the aura of the Priestess. The Priestess then visualizes this collective energy flowing from herself, through her own blade, into the moon bowl. Or she may simply place her palms over the bowl and focus the energy out through her hands. During this technique, she may recite an incantation, stating the purpose of the "charge", or the group may chant the spell's intent.
One of the ways in which energy can be raised for this technique, is through deep breathing. Each person draws in air slowly and deeply, and exhales as they visualize the energy flowing outward through their ritual blades, or their hands. Eastern Mystics teach that the Ether of our planet can be drawn in through the breath, and condensed as pure energy. This they call "Prana".
Another method is to "enchant" the water. Begin by passing your right hand, palm down, over the bowl in a clockwise manner. Perform nine passes, then do the same with your left hand. You will need to create a Chant which will serve to describe your intent. It can be a simple rhyme, or whatever you want. As you chant, blow gently upon the water slightly disturbing the surface. Formulate the incantation to be as descriptive as you can, about what you desire. Once you have spoken the incantation into the bowl, it is time to release the "charge". One technique for this is to boil the water, and observe the steam as it evaporates. Boil it until all of the water is gone. As the steam rises up, repeat your incantation, and watch the steam as it moves upward. It is carrying off your magic, so that it may take effect. Think this as you watch it (thoughts ARE things).
Another very old method is to pour out the contents of the bowl into a stream, or river. As you do this, you recite a simple rhyme spell, such as :"Water to water, a witch's spell, I give this stream, to speed it well"
Receiving the Moon's Light: (for women)
The Priestess receiving the Full Moon, will need an assistant. The assistant will require a silver disk, smooth and highly polished. If absolutely necessary, a small hand mirror may be used in its place. The Priestess will stand or kneel before the altar, with her head bowed down. The assistant will part her hair at the base of the skull, using water or oil to help separate the hair, if it is short. While the priestess visualizes the form of the Goddess merging from behind, into her own form, the assistant will reflect the Moon's light upon the base of the skull, using the silver disk. You will find that this is quite difficult in city light pollution, and works best in a country setting, or a desert. Once the Priestess receives the Moon she can channel it into the Moon bowl, or she can "store" it within her Being for seven days. This light is pure Lunar energy, and can be "impregnated" with whatever "thoughtform" the priestess desires. Receiving the Moon's light: (for men)
The Priest receiving the Full Moon, does not need an assistant, but may choose one if he desires. Men cannot receive the Moon in the same manner as women, nor should they visualize the Goddess merging with them.
The Priest will stand, or kneel, before the altar with his head slightly bowed. Using a polished brass disk, the Moon's light is reflected upon his forehead. At this point the Priest will visualize himself as the Full Moon itself. Once the light is received, the Priest can channel it into the bowl. Men do not "hold" Moon Light very well, and it is best to channel it off before the seven day period, which the Priestess enjoys.
Receiving the Moon's light: (for women without assistance)
There are several ways for a woman to receive the Moon's Light, without any assistant. The technique I gave in this subject note, is just one of the magical techniques. The Moon may also be received in a religious setting (no magic intended, just a blessing or a union with Deity). In these modern times, you can set up a mirror behind you, and angle it so that it reflects down upon you, if you desire to try the magical technique.
One of the old ways of non-magical union, was for the woman to lay nude beneath the Full Moon in the Full Moon Goddess Posture. This posture is also referred to as the Star Goddess Posture, and is an X formation, arms and legs spread out wide. The woman anoints herself with an oil of the Moon, just below her navel (forming a crescent with the oil). As she lays upon the earth, she will look up into the Moon, and slowly draw in the muscles of her abdomen, as she mentally pictures that she is drawing down the light of the Moon, into herself. Just as men draw power into themselves through the solar plexus, a woman draws power into herself through the navel region ("pit of the stomach" kind of thing. This is the center of a woman). This is just one method, but it can be a powerful experience.

Basic Drawing Down The Moon Ritual
Fri, January 20, 2006 - 7:31 AMOn the night of the full moon, as near as possible to the actual time, the ritual of 'Drawing down the Moon' is enacted.
After the circle is 'cast' and the 'cone of power' has been raised, the High Priest (HP) proceeds to draw down the moon on the High Priestess (HPS). She stands with her back to the altar, with the wand in her right hand and the scourge in her left, held against her breast in the "Osiris" position - her wrists crossed , and the shafts crossed again above them.
He kneels before her and gives her the fivefold kiss.
Then he kneels before her again and invokes.
"I invoke thee and call upon thee,
mighty mother of us all,
bringer of all fruitfulness:
By seed and root,
by bud and stem,
by leaf and flower and fruit,
By love and life do I invoke thee to descend upon the body of this thy servant and Priestess."
While saying this he touches her with his right forefinger on her right breast, left breast, and womb, the same three again and finally the right breast.
Still kneeling with arms spread outward and downward, palms facing forward he says:
"Hail Aradia from the Amalthean Horn, p
pour forth thy store of love;
I lowly bend before thee,
I adore thee to the end.
With loving sacrifice thy shrine adorn.
Thy foot is to my lip, (Kisses right foot)
my prayer upborne upon the rising incense smoke:
Then spend thine ancient love,
O mighty one,
Descend to aid me who without thee am forlorn."
He stands and takes a step backward, still facing her.
She draws the invoking earth pentagram in the air in front of him with the wand and says:
"Of the mother darksome and divine,
mine the scourge and mine the kiss;
here I charge you in this sign,
the five point star of love and bliss."
The HPS places the wand and scourge upon the altar then she and the HP face the coven with him on her left.
He says:
"Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess; she in the dust of whose feet are the hosts of heaven, and whose body encircles the universe! She who of old was called by many names, Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Demeter, Kali, Innana, and by many other names"
HPS says: "Once in a month when the moon is full or whenever you have need of anything, gather to make merry and adore me who am queen of all witches. Lead my dance in greenwood shade by the light of my fullness.
In a place wild and lone, dance about my altar stone!
Sing, feast, make music and love; all in my presence shining above!
And as ye celebrate this night, come all of ye sky clad to this rite!
A sign that all of you equal be, and that in nature all are free.
As mine is the ecstasy of spirit and joy upon the earth,
work my mysteries, not in sadness, but in mirth. For my law is love unto all beings.
Mine is the cup of the wine of life and the cauldron of Cerridwen - the holy grail of immortality.
I am the gracious Goddess who gives the gift of joy unto the hearts of man on earth,
and the knowledge of the spirit eternal.
Nor do I demand sacrifice other than yourself - for behold
I am the mother of all,
it is only through the return of that love that you may come to know me".
HP says: "Great Goddess! love and light in the sky! let us feel thy presence in this blessed circle and let our hearts be filled with joy and understanding!"
After the moon has been drawn down upon the HPS it is permitted to ask a boon of the Goddess. (represented by the HPS)
Gerald Gardner drafted the first version of this ritual , incorporating parts of a poem addressed to Tyche, Goddess of Fortune, and other verses by Aleister Crowley. The declamation I think was written by Doreen Valiente

Moon Ritual
Wed, January 11, 2006 - 7:51 AMThis is a sample ritual...enjoy
Ring bell three times
Anoint and admit ; "In the names of Hecate and Herne, welcome and Blessed Be."
Charge Salt; "Salt is life, let it purify in all ways that we may use it."
Exorcise Water; "May the sacred salt drive out any impurities in this water so we may use it throughout these rites."
"Let us be at one to worship the power. The power that moves the universe, for Behold! The Lords of light have set the stars upon the heavens, the Earth spins and the Moon holds true to her course. Let us walk proudly and hold our heads high, for the sky is our father and the earth is our mother and we are the children of the Gods!"
Cast Circle; "We conjure thee O' circle of power that thou be a boundary between the world of man and the realms of the Mighty Ones, a guardian and protection that shall preserve and contain the power we shall raise within thee, Wherefore, do we Bless and consecrate you in the most sacred names of Hecate and Herne."
Cast with incense
Cast with water
Call Quarters;
East; "Through the Athame and the Topaz, we call up the Ancient Ones, King Paralda with thy zephyrs and Eurius the east wind. We do summon stir and call ye up to guard this circle and join us in these rites. We bid you welcome!"
South; "Through the Wand and the Fire Opal, we call up the Ancient Ones, King Djinn with thy Salamandors and Notus the south wind. We do summon stir and call ye up to guard this circle and join us in these rites. We bid you welcome!"
West; "Through the Water Crystal and the Cup, we call up the Ancient Ones, King Niksa with thy Undines and Zephyrus the west wind. We do summon stir and call ye up to guard this circle and join us in these rites. We bid you welcome!"
North; "Through the Earth Crystal and the Pentacle, we call up the Ancient Ones, King Ghob with thy Gnomes and Borius the north wind. We do summon stir and call ye up to guard this circle and join us in these rites. We bid you welcome!"
"All hail! The Elements and all hail the Gods. We bid the Lord and Lady welcome and invite them to join us in this ritual we hold in their honor. Now is the temple erected, let none leave it but with good reason."
Drawing Down the Moon.
"O' gentle Lady look upon us your children, those who seek to know Thee the more, to hear Thy wisdom, to feel Thy strength, to know Thy love."
[All coveners hold hands]
"Blessed Be thy feet that have brought you in these ways."
"Blessed Be thy knees which kneel with us at the sacred altar."
"Blessed Be thy womb without which naught would be."
"Blessed Be thy breast which offer comfort to us here."
"Blessed Be thy lips which utter the sacred names."
"I invoke Thee and call upon Thee, Great Mother of us all, bestower of life, of love, of grief, of death, and of joy. Of all that has been, is, and shall be. I call upon Thee here to descend unto the body of Thy humble servant and priestess. To speak to us, to give us wisdom understanding, and love."
"Of the Mother, Maiden, Crone; all My love to call thine own. Mine the scourge and Mine the kiss, five point star of love and bliss. Here I charge thee in this sign of Mine own love and light devine."
Charge of the Goddess
"Now listen to the words of the Great Mother who of old was called Artemis, Astarte, Demeter, Miluisine, Aphrodite, Cerridwen, Diana, Arianrod, Bridgid, Hecate, Isis and by many other names."
"When ever you have need of anything, once in a month, and better it be when the moon is full, ye shall assemble in some secret place and adore the sprit of Me who am Queen of all Witches. Ye shall dance, sing, feast, make music and love all in My praise : For Mine is the ecstasy of the sprit, and Mine also is joy on earth. For My law is love unto all beings."
"Hear ye the words of the Star Goddess , She in the dust of whos feet are the host of heaven, whose body encircleth the universe."
"I am the beauty of the green earth and the white moon and the mysteries of the waters. From Me all things proceed and unto Me they must return. Let My worship be in the heart that rejoices, for all acts of love and pleasure are My rituals. Let there be beauty and strength, power and compassion, myrth and reverance within you. And you who seek to know Me.... know, that your seeking and yearning shall avail you not, unless you know the mystery. If that which seek you find not within you shall never find it without. For behold , I have been with you from the beginning I am that which is attained at the end of desire."
Drawing Down the Sun
"In Her name do I invoke Thee, Mighty Father of us all. Lugh, Pan, Cernunnos, Herne. Come in answer to my call. Descend, I pray Thee, unto the body of Thy humble servant and priest."
"Blessed Be thy feet that have brought you in these ways."
"Blessed Be thy knees that kneel at the sacred altar."
"Blessed Be thy phallas without which naught would be."
"Blessed Be thy chest erected in strength."
"Blessed Be thy lips which utter the sacred names."
Charge of the God
"I am the fire within your heart, the yearning of your soul. I am the hunter of knowledge and the seeker of the holy quest. I, who stand in the darkness of light, am He whom you have called death. I, the consort and mate of She whom we adore, call fourth to thee, Heed My call, beloved ones. Come unto Me and learn the secrets of death and of peace.
I am the corn at harvest and the fruit on the trees. I am He who leads you home. Scourge and Flame, Blade and Blood, these are Mine and gifts to thee. Call unto Me from the forest wild and on hilltops bare and seek Me in the darkness bright .
I who have been called Pan, Herne, Osiris and Hades, speak to thee in thy search. Come dance and sing, come love and smile . For behold! This is My worship. You are My children and I am thy father. On swift night wings it is I who lays you at the mother's feet to be reborn and to return again. But, thou who thinks to seek Me, know that I am the untaimed wind, the fury of the storm, the passion in your soul. Seek Me with courage lest you be swept away in thy seeking. Seek Me with pride and humility, but, seek Me best with love and strength. For this is My path , and I love not the weak and the fearful. Hear My call on long winter nights and we shall stand together guarding Her earth as She sleeps."
"Depth calls on height, the Goddess on the God, on Him that is the flame that quickens Her"
"Let the hammer strike the anvil."
"Let the lightening touch the earth."
"Let the lance ensoul the grail."
"Let the magick come to birth."
