URGENT ACTION!! We need you to send email a copy of this right NOW!

If we have ANY hope of burning the phoenix at Rebirth 2008 we NEED the
community to come together RIGHT NOW to make Mayor Harry Kim change
his mind and grant us a burn exemtion. They are telling us that we can
NOT burn the phoenix based on an emergency proclamation banning all
outdoor fires. The Mayor can give us an exemtion but will not give us
the time of day as we are nobodys.

We NEED you the community to send in a mass of emails (please
personalize to your liking but hit on the same points) to help them
understand just how much the community is invested in the burning of
the phoenix.

Time is running out, please send this in to Mayor Kim at cohmayor@co.hawaii.hi.us
RIGHT NOW! Thank you for your help, with your input we might actually pull this
off.

Here is the email we need you to send (please personalize it and
delete everything above it, thank you):

Aloha Honorable Mayor Kim,

I am a participant in the annual Rebirth festival in Pahoa. I have
learned recently that the centerpiece of the event, the ceremonial
burning of the phoenix, may be prevented by your emergency
proclamation prohibiting non-cooking fires.

The ceremonial burning of the phoenix has a lot of meaning to me. It
is the culmination of an event that has:

-Brought me closer to my neighbors and community
-Helped to support local art and artists
-Become a boon to a economically troubled part of the island

The ceremonial burning of the phoenix is the formal end to Rebirth.
Without it I leave empty and unfulfilled. Please grant a burn exemtion
to Rebirth 2008 so we can continue our tradition.

Mahalo nui loa for your time and kokua,

Your Name

Filmmaker Researching The Struggles Native Hawaiians,..

Body: Hello,

I am a filmmaker who has been researching the struggles Native Hawaiians are experiencing due to the ever increasing rise in housing costs, the rising cost of living and the rising numbers of Native Hawaiians who are homeless. I have heard stories of several Native Hawaiian families who have had to leave the islands because they could no longer afford to stay.

I will be visiting the Big Island within the next couple of months and I would love to be able to meet with as many Native Hawaiians who are having the difficulties I have mentioned above. It is my goal to highlight the problems they are facing in a documentary film.

I have created approximately 300 films and videos in the past eighteen years. I have formed teams of video professionals and I have performed as a producer, editor, cinematographer, writer and graphics artist to produce each project. It is my goal to also utilize talented Hawaiian professionals and also Hawaiian volunteers to complete my project.

If you could provide me with a list of people who would want to share their experiences with me during my upcoming visit to the Big Island I would greatly appreciate your help. I would also appreciate any information or locations where I can obtain such information relating to Native Hawaiians leaving the islands.

You can either email or call me using the contact information listed below. Thank you for your assistance.

I greatly appreciate any help you can provide!

Sincerely;
songbird needs job in Hawaii

Aloha!

Please answer through my profile page as I won't be able to check it here!

I have always dreamed of living in Hawaii.

Anyway the funny thing is...I have recently developed asthma due to the intense pollution here in Kathmandu. The Dr said the only way to get better is to leave Nepal. So my husband and I are trying to decide where to go. He is Nepali by the way and I am American. Go see his website it you like. www.nepalmandala.com it is for his graphic design company, Mandala Graphics. We are both 37 years old.

Anyway, my options are to return to NYC, because I have family there, or try to live my dream....Hawaii!!! I have been saying to Sherap all the time...let's go live in Hawaii!

But we are kind of afraid, since we have so little money...we hear it is hard to find jobs there and we would need to be employed within two weeks of arrival or we will go bust! So I was wondering if you have any ideas...being from there and all! If you look at my profile maybe you will see some of my qualifications although I am not sure if I wrote them clearly.

But basically this:

essential oils scent design
fresh spa products design
Photoshop
Ballet teacher for ages 3-10
excellent writer all styles
grant writing
office skills
Blues and jazz singer for hotel bands

My husband is an expert graphic and website designer.
So if you have any ideas that can help us to live the dream then you will truly be an angel from heaven for us!

Peace and Love,

Willow and Sherap Lama

The Ka Pilina camp @ Burning Man is BACK!

Going to Burning Man 2007? Want to camp with a bunch of other Hawaii burners at the Hawaii Regional Embassy on the playa?

Now is your chance! The Ka Pilina camp will be making it's 4th consecutive appearance on the playa. It looked like we were not going to make it this year but a few dedicated local burners would not let that happen. We are not going to be a village and the camp is downsized a bit from previous years as we are trying to take a different approach this year.

We will be relying on campers to be self-reliant, meaning there will be next to nothing that the camp will provide (mainly organizing the space and putting up flags). Each camper is expected to not only come prepared (your OWN shade, food, water, showers, evaporation ponds, etc.) but also to carry away all the garbage in the camp whether it is yours or not.

The camp
We are going for a lot 200' x 200' and we are going to cap it at 125-150 people. Mike Maung is returning with his mega-art with Lawnmower II, a 25' tall sculpture lit up with EL wire. We will have 3 "mini-themecamps" within our themecamps this year: Han's Hippie Fishing Bait and Tackle, the Hawaiian Awa Hut, and Inflatuland. We hope to be on a corner again with Mike's sculpture near the point. The 3 mini-themecamps will be across an open area (for any fire performance and the luau) in an arc facing the sculpture. The most interactive elements will get the most frontage with more private camping towards the rear. We will most likely be back from the playa as in years' past but that means we are also more likely to by near but not too close to the portapotties.

The 5th annual Friday sunset luau
We decided that after being a "soup kitchen for stoners" (like 750-1000 of them) we are going to go back to the roots of the luau which is more like a "stone soup" type of thing. We are asking for everyone who wishes to participate in the luau to bring something to share as in food and/or beverages. We want to get back to the luau being a place and time for local Hawaii burners to meet each other in a relaxing and friendly environment. We never intended the luau to be just a "big party" we throw for all Black Rock City. Everyone is welcome to attend, but we just want to be clear what the luau is about, participants contributing and people (especially kama'aina) connecting.

Get involved
Want to be part of a growing legend at Burning Man? Join the Ka Pilina camp today! The camp is being organized by:

Geoff Hearl (maui@kapilina.org)
Seth Lahne (oahu@kapilina.org)
John Corbin (hawaii@kapilina.org)

Contact them with any of your questions and if you want to sign up.

We will also have a page on our website (www.kapilina.org) soon with more of the details, and possibly a way to register for the camp (maybe the luau too?).

We also have a discussion list on Yahoo Groups just for the Ka Pilina camp. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/kapilinacamp/ and join the group.

As always there will also be lots of discussion about it on our Tribe (our main discussion forum) at http://kapilina.tribe.net.

Rebirth 2007 (an official Burning Man Regional event), is a 4 day interactive art festival in the jungles of Puna including a 20' phoenix, fire spinners, luau, performance, music, installations, and much more. Come prepared to camp for 4 days, express your creativity, and make connections. This event is a nonprofit gathering of artists, no one is making money, and vending is banned inside, you come to give and share. Rebirth 2007 is organized following the Burning Man 10 Principles, which you can see for yourself here: http://regionals.burningman.com/network_principles.html.

Tickets for Rebirth 2007 are $35 (100 available online and 100 are for sale on the Big Island) and $45 (700 available online, at the gate, and soon in an outlet on an island near you) while supplies last. Discounts available for volunteers, artists, performers, and some low-income tickets, see website for details.

We are looking for volunteers to help the event run smoothly and there are a lot of different jobs we need to do. We really need the help of some passionate people, if you are interested in really helping out and participating by volunteering then go to our website for all of the details. We are also looking for groups to form themecamps to help make the event one of the brightest expressions of interactive art outside of Burning Man, see the site for more details. We are giving out at least $1,000 in art grants go to http://kapilina.org/kapilina/artgrants.html for all the info and an application. The art grant cycle is now open and closes March 15th.

I would love to meet some like minded people to work together in music, art and/or healing events. I will be creating an event soon that I would love to invite people here to. Probably sometime after burning man.

WCW and NION @ Gay Pride

I know that 9AM on a Sat is pretty early for most of you...

Gay Pride Parade: Saturday, June 24, 9 am

World Can't Wait-Hawai`i will have a contingent in the Gay Pride Parade this Saturday, June 24th. We invite all World Can't Wait and Not In Our Name supporters to join the contingent with its 8 bright green banners with each of the "your government" statements from the World Can't Wait Call (http://www.worldcantwait.net) and to pass out the Call to Drive Out the Bush Regime.

Especially in light of a recently uncovered Pentagon document classifying homosexuality as a mental disorder, to identify as a homosexual is increasingly becoming a crime in the United States. Under the Bush Regime and its Christian fundamentalist counterparts in power, discriminatory hiring practices regarding sexuality abound. Violent hate crimes committed against the LGBTQ community are constant. Hundreds of servicemen and women are discharged from the military each year under a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Now, the Pentagon is breaking with widely accepted scientific thought and simply tolerance in general, by returning to the classification of homosexuality as a disorder or mental illness. In the document, a "Defense Department Instruction" manual, homosexuality is listed with other "defects." The medical community withdrew this classification from the books decades ago, and has widely refuted the Pentagon's archaic and bigoted claim. For more information on the Pentagon's classification, see TruthOut

The LGBT community can't wait, and neither can the world! Drive out the Bush Regime!

The parade begins at Magic Island (Ala Moana Park) at 9 am and will go through Waikiki to Kapiolani Park. Just look for the green banners and NION flags. There will be buses from Kapiolani Park back to Ala Moana Park, where there will be an afternoon of entertainment, information booths and food at McCoy Pavilion throughout the afternoon. There will be little parking at Magic Island but you can usually find a space at Ala Moana Shopping Center.

A woman at the nightclub Crobar on Saturday night was taken by 5 men, who according to hospital and police reports, gang raped her before dumping her. Unable to remember the events of the evening, tests later confirmed the repeat rapes along with traces of Rohypnol in her blood, with Progesterex, which is essentially a small sterilization pill. The drug now being used by rapists at parties to rape and sterilize their victims. Progesterex is available to vets to sterilize large animals. Rumor has it that Progesterex is being used together with Rohypnol, the date rape drug. As with Rohypnol, all they have to do is drop it into the girls drink. The girl can't remember a thing the next morning, of all that had taken place the night before. Progesterex, which dissolves in drinks just as easily, is such that the victim doesn't conceive from the rape and the rapist needn't worry about having a paternity test identifying him months later. The drugs effects are not temporary- They are permanent!

Progesterex was designed to sterilize horses. Any female who takes it will never be able to conceive. The bastards can get this drug from anyone who is in vet school or any university. It's that easy, and Progesterex is about to break out big every where. Believe it or not, there are even sites on the Internet telling people how to use it. Please COPY (NOT FORWARD) this to everyone you know, especially girls. Be careful when you're out, and don't leave your drink unattended. Please make the effort to pass this onto all you know. Guys, please inform all your female friends and relatives. This has now been reported to have been used on 360 women around London. Girls, keep your drinks safe at all times, and men, look after the girls you're with. Please pass this on..

The 2006 Ka Pilina camp at Burning Man

Going to Burning Man this year?

Calling all kama'aina on the islands and in the mainland, the 2006 Ka Pilina camp (aka the Hawaii Regional Embassy) has been officially registered with Burning Man and is open to accept camp members. The camp will be able to hold 150-200 members and it will again be organizing by small groups. This is the biggest and best home on the playa for island burners, whether it is your first time on the playa or not. This will only be the 3rd year for the camp but already our Friday sunset luau is a legend in Black Rock City, and this year's luau will be even better than ever. This is your best opportunity all year to meet burners from all the islands at once.

Go to www.kapilina.org/kapilina/tcamp06.html to get all the details about the camp and got to our Tribe (kapilina.tribe.net) to add your name to the signup list in the discussion forum. We have also created a new email list on Yahoo just for the Ka Pilina camp, you can join it by going here: groups.yahoo.com/group/kapilinacamp/.

We are planning on the 2006 Ka Pilina camp returning to the 4:30 area but being much closer to the playa without actually being on the Esplanade. We are going for the same type spot as in 2005 (2 corners on 4:30) but between the 2nd and 3rd streets (counting the Esplanade as the 1st) and slightly larger on the side opposite of 4:30. Check out the layout (www.kapilina.org/pix/06KP-...out01.gif) it is designed to have a large open art and performance and art car area in front while providing a more private camping area in the rear or center of the camp.

We need your help!

For the first time we will be asking for voluntary donations from camp members. The camp is NOT highly centrally organized and the whole thing really only works if small prepared groups come together to form our large community. So what is money needed for? What will you get for your suggested donation of $20? Well for one, any donation of $20 or more will get you a camp laminate, a t-shirt, and stickers, just for you (bag of schwag). This year we are going to face a need for storage for the first time as our camp has grown and we are beginning to strain the goodwill of individuals storing stuff for us for free. Storage will cost money. We also would like to do an art grant program for the camp to help subsidize art members are bringing to make our front public area come alive. Also the luau will cost some money for the pig and stuff like tables and such. In the end, the more money we can raise, the more we can do.

Donations are strictly voluntary, it is not a prerequisite for camping with us. It is up to you, if you want to camp with Ka Pilina on the playa and help make it the best it can be, or if you are not going and just support the art we are doing there please give us a camp donation by going to: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr and remember, if our tax status comes through in a month or so, any donations for the past 6 months will be tax deductible.

So sign up for the camp today if you are in, we already have 42 confirmed members already and we are going to cap our camp at around 150. Help us bring some aloha to the playa see www.kapilina.org/kapilina/tcamp06.html for all of the details.

It's turned out that I don't have a ticket for the festival after all.
And at this point I am not really incllined to shell out a bunch of cash only to have to deal with amateur night inside the venue.
Instead I've decided to donate the $100 the scalpers are charging to The Kokua Foundation to support what Jack's trying to do for our kids here in Hawaii.
So... I thought I'd call a not-so-impromtu HOOP SESSION in the park outside the show.
I've been told that you can hear the music just as well behind the shell, only minus all the yuppies and tourists.

Anybody with me!?!!!!

I'm thinking I'll head down to Kapiolani Park at 2 or 3PM
and stay until the show lets out.
Look for the hoopers or else call me tomrrow
for a more specific location.

Here is a forward in relation to a dear friend of mine who is currently battling lukemia. She needs some bucks, can any one who is in a band who might want to proform contact the organiser? Or if they know people who might? Her contact info is available if you want it. Just send me an e-mail. Aloha, Tara

Subject: Fundraiser
OK people, I think we may have a date, but we need to come up with a band. So, Brian from Boardrider's in Kailua is giving us Fri. April 21 or any Sunday that we would like. I think Friday, 21st would be great since it is the day before Earth Day and Kokua Fest, and we may be able to get a band that is here for the show. SO, what can you do? If you know anyone, who knows anyone, in a band or if you are familar with which bands are good bands on the island, (since I'm totally clueless when it comes to this stuff), then please let me know and we can try to pull your strings for Sheldon. We would of course really like to get Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, John Cruz, Ookla da mok, Natural Vibrations, someone like that. Brian suggested ALO- apparently they will be here for Kokua and are good, but I have never heard of them and have no idea how to get in touch with them. Anyway if you have any connections please feel them out and let me know how it goes, and I don't mind calling people if you don't have time. Christina also put together a flyer for Sheldon explaining the situation, so if you need/ want a copy let me know. We have to nail a band down with in the next few days. So, work those connections, ASAP! Also, once the date is firm, we will need everyones help with spreading the word. We are also thinking of a silent auction for surf boards or kite surfing equipment. So, be thinking of stuff that could help make some money.
I think this could be alot of fun and also help with keeping Sheldon surrounded by love during this rough time.
Thanks SO much for your help!! Aloha, Kim
PS Please forward this to those that may be left out or those that may be "connected!" :)

I'm moving to Oahu want friendly info

I'm coming this weekend to visit Oahu to see if I want to live there. I have a husband who will be working there and an 4 year old boy who at the moment gose to a very progresseve preschool. I want to move but I want to know more about the place. I want to find an awsome school for my son. The school he gose to at the moment is very open minded and they let the kids lern through experience and not through a structured sit down learning style. Basicly they get to run and play and get the hoses out and get muddy and paint and just be the wonderful kids they are without question. I would love to find a place that's jsut as awsome. As of now the school he gose to is ( webiste )>> Rosevillecommunitypreschool.org

We would be moving soon and any reccomendations are welcome. The school is a co op and Im willing to put in the time at a co op style school. Any info you folks have on moving or living there would be so wonderful. What's the cost of living...what is there to do for fun? How much do people usualy make each month to get along ok.

A little about us. My husband is 22 he likes yoga and massage and aikido. I'm 23..I enjoy Yoga and most all art. Sewing and beadmaking and crafts and painting and drawing and photography etc...Are there any art schools there? Or healing arts schools? I'm a stay at home mom. I heard that everyone has benefits there. I don't currently have benefits where I'm at for myself. I guess I have a lot of questions.

I would trade something too for the loan. Dont get me wrong, I love singing in the rain and splashing in the puddles as much as the next girl but....feet are starting to show symptoms of perma mud. :)

HI EVERYBODY YOUS GUYS PEEPS. I HAVE A SORE THROAT SO I'M TYPING IN CAPS. SOOOOOO WHAT'S HAPPENING? ANYTHING NEW? PRETTY BUSY HUH? WELL, I THINK WE ALL NEED TO CHECK IN. ITS FEBRUARY NOW. AKA THE SUICIDE MONTH... HOW ARE Y'ALL HOLDIN UP? DETAILS PLEASE.

I'LL START. I SPENT $80 ON A PAIR OF HIGH HEELS. MY GRAMMA ANGEL ON MY LEFT SHOULDER AND MY STARR DEVIL FRIEND ON MY RIGHT SHOULDER MADE ME DO IT. NOW ALL I NEED IS A DATE. BOTH TO GO ON AND TO EAT CAUSE I DON'T HAVE MUCH FOOD. DATE- AS IN THE SUCCULENT FRUIT OF THE PALM... GEEZ. IF WORSE COMES TO WORSE I'LL ROAST THE SHOES. KALUA SHOE. YUM. AND IF I REALLY GET HUNGRY I'LL CUT OFF ALL MY HAIR AND CHEW ON THAT FOR A SHOW OF DESTRUCTIVE CREATIVITY. THREE CHEERS FOR FEBRUARY. YOU KNOW WHAT, I'M NOT DEPRESSED AT ALL- I JUST THINK THAT IF WE ALL LIMIT OUR MINDLESS SELF IMPOSED COMPLAINING TO ONE SHORT MONTH OUT OF THE YEAR THEN WE CAN LIKE EACH OTHER FOR THE REMAINING 11.

I want to have a little overnight beach gathering. Not necessarily a big party, just a get together away from town with a little fire, some booze, omgwtf-barbecue, and plenty of bullshit all night long on the beach. Camping is implied. We could try a pancake breakfast if a good griddle could be found. It doesn't have to be this weekend but I would like it to be soon.

Yesterday, I sat down to eat at DTE, and right next to me was Metatron expounding his belief to two women. As he was finishing, one of the women handed him a wad of cash!
"selling water beside a river" flashed through my mind.
After they left, he noticed me, and offered to give me a reading. I said no. He persisted with, "why not?"
"because it's bullshit", I said.

So Meta and all those who push belief like a bad drug, this is for you:

The impermanence of all experience is obvious
Which makes these & all words totally meaningless,
So belief in some ultimate experience is ridiculous
But the people of the new age are entirely frivolous
As they take their phenomenal illusions all too serious.

Write The Mayor to support a Veto/Compromise for Bill 71!

Hey Everyone ~ Please take a minute to send Mayor Hannemann a message of support for an alternative plan to Bill 71. It'll only take a few moments...

Here's what I wrote:

-----------------

From: Kenneth Romero <kenrom@mac.com>
Date: December 31, 2005 2:12:45 PM HST
To: mayor@honolulu.gov
Subject: I Support Your Compromise Bill Instead of Bill 71

Aloha Mayor Hannemann -

My name is Kenneth Romero, and I am a performing artist and community organizer in Honolulu. I am writing to let you know that myself and my community of artists fully support the idea of a compromise bill and the veto of Bill 71. Thank you for for considering what is best for the interests of all concerned!

Thank You,

Ken Romero

--
kenrom@mac.com
808.277.6420

-----------------

Love & Aloha,

+kenrom-

ORIGINAL CALL FOR SUPPORT BY LOCAL ACLU:

---------------------
Dear Street Performers and all interested,

Mayor Hannemann is considering vetoeing Bill 71 and introducing a bill that
would balance the rights of street performers and pedestrian safety. He
needs to know that you are in support of the compromise bill. The new
compromise bill designates a number of spots in the four block area of
Kalakaua previously identified in Bill 71 that would be available for
performances from 7-10 pm through a lottery and permit system. There will be no performance restrictions at any other times or in any other areas. The
new bill will have to go through the public hearing process before it can be
passed.

To show support for the Mayor's veto and for the compromise bill,
please submit testimony to the city council orally and in writing. In
addition, please contact the Mayor to show your support via email at

mayor@honolulu.gov

or

Mayor Mufi Hannemann
Honolulu Hale, 530 S. King St.,
Honolulu, HI 96813.

Thank you.

To all the people I met but did not get an opportunity to say so long:

I give thanks this day
For fellow travellers on the way,
Wanderers in touch who understand the play.
Even if our meetings be few
In them we feel the spirit move anew
Confirming that nothing is really askew.
In loving recognition we say goodbye,
Hearts overflowing with a silent sigh,
As we go our merry ways, ready to die.
May your path be as wide as the sky!

Scene took place on a BA flight between Johannesburg and London. A White woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a black man. Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess. "Madam, what Is the matter" the hostess asked. "You obviously do not see it then?" She responded. "You placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat". "Be calm please" the hostess replied. "Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another place is available."

The Hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later. "Madam, Just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is also no available seat in the business class. But there is one place in the first class." Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued: "It is not usual for our company to permit
someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make anyone sit next to someone so disgusting." She turned to the black guy, and said, "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in first class. At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded. This is a true story.

Hi all, did any one leave a black jacket at my house the other night? Because there are two here one small with silver snaps and a buckle, the other courdory. Also a fuzzy striped sock. Plus if you suspect that I may have somthing of yours or think you might like to convince me to let go of somthing you want of mine, now is the time. You may even be able to convince me that the thing you want is actually yours and you have been waiting to get it back forever. Is any one having a yard sale? If you haven't noticed I really want to get rid of things, if you like pink this could be your lucky day.

I'm new to the tribe, obviously.

My husband, baby girl and I are moving to Oahu in Janury from California for a job.

Hope I can be considered a beautiful Oahu person too! =)

This is going to be quite a change for us...hell, neither of us have even been to Hawaii, but we are excited to start somewhere with a clean slate and makes some new friends.
