It's pretty cool to have a marathon back in Oakland after a 25 year absence.

Re: Oakland Marathon
Tue, September 29, 2009 - 8:28 PMmaybe Kelly and Dellums will be handing out medals for all the finishers.....tin cans tops or something made by a local artisan from melted down handguns.......
I might actually do it Kelly..........so if you're handing out medals and feel something warm running down your leg.......you'll know I had to take a piss -

Tue, September 29, 2009 - 10:22 PMOh Glen, we all know that if you got out of your car or gated community and had to actually stand in a crowd of non-Aryans you'd be pissing your pants before you had time to unzip...

Anyways, back on topic.
There's also a 1/2 marathon, relay, and 5k.
Is anyone other than me going to run? (I haven't signed up yet, but 90% sure that I'll do the 1/2). -

Re: Oakland Marathon

Awesome.
If you need any advice, let me know.
I'm not an _expert_, but I'll be running my 2nd marathon in December (Vegas baby!), so I do have some experience. -

Re: Oakland Marathon
Thu, October 1, 2009 - 5:17 PMThanks for the offer Adam.
I ran a 5K in 2001 and walked a marathon in 2000. Restarted running this year and I think a half marathon might be a good goal, but I'm still not sure. Though I may go with the Team in Training folks to get the extra help and support. We shall see. It mostly depends on how my work schedule is shaping up in the early part of the year if I can commit to any serious training. -

One more thing for you and for anyone else reading.
As a warmup for the 1/2 marathon or marathon, I _highly_ recommend the races organized by Lake Merritt Joggers and Striders. Most 4th Sunday of the year, they have 5k, 10k and 15k races around the lake. It's a nice little crowd, it starts at the reasonable hour of 9am, and the entries fees are almost nothing ($5).
