New parking enforcement/harassment rules

I am not sure if I am the only one caught unawares by this, but apparently
Oakland City Council just gave us a new present - higher parking and ticket
fees, later working meters (most meters are now till 8pm!!!) and extra
brigades ticketing anything that does not move (I was wondering why I got a
ticket for parking IN MY DRIVEWAY).

There is an article here:
www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi
the short of it is:

*Meter parking in most areas: *until 8 p.m. (6 p.m.)

*Expired meter: *$55 ($45)

*Parking on a sidewalk: *$100 ($30) (this one apparently covers your
driveway if the meter maid feels under quota)

*Double parking: *$75 ($30)

*No parking in a driveway: *$85 ($30)

*Parking within 3 feet of a sidewalk access ramp: *$330 (none)

So, perhaps you might want to be aware of this when driving to Piedmont Ave
or 51st/Telegraph areas. I am guessing we are about to start to see a lot
more stores for rent around here....

According to today's SF Examiner. (Yeah, well, it is free) parking SF is
as follows: $2.00 bucks everywhere except Downtown where it
    is $3.50.

Expanding it into the hoods, and increasing these costs are on the docket
at city hall. Does it seem like a good idea?

There are many sides in these types of issues, but what would a
good honest objective cost/benefits analysis and EIR say? What
    say you?

Probably isn't a common sense rationale for this..........but the powers that be feel pressure from the public employees unions to avoid layoffs at all costs..........so they find one more way to plunder from the poor bastards in the private sector............

Debbie Edgerly's retirement must be fully funded..!

I don't see why drivers should foot the bill for incompetent and /or corrupt politicians.

In Berkeley the ticketing is a strong deterrent to going downtown for any reason. I say cut back on gov't and stop punishing the taxpayer who already makes an enormous financial contribution with every purchase they make.
