Big Hafla May 3rd with Souhail Kaspar and Rachid Halihal (Phoenix area)

Hi, everyone, I just wanted to update you with information on the upcoming hafla and workshops with Souhail Kaspar. He will be here the weekend of May 3rd and 4th. (Please disregard the earlier date. We had to move it back one weekend). The hafla will be a dance party with Souhail and Rachid Halihal. Also some local musicians, some featured dancers, some wonderful vending by Fashionable Movement and Anaya Tribal, oh yeah, and LOTS of dancing for party attendies. Fun, fun, fun!

Also, don't forget to cheer Souhail on on February 10th for the 50th Grammy award show! He has been nominated for this year's Grammy in World Music for his work with Rahim Alhaj in "When the Soul is Settled: The Music of Iraq."

Midnight Caravan – Souhail Kaspar Near East Ensemble with Guest Artists Naser Musa, Georges Lammam, and the fabulous Dahlena!

Get ready for some of the best live Middle Eastern music to hit the valley in ages! Souhail Kaspar Near East Ensemble will be in Phoenix on October 6th and 7th with a series of percussion, music, and dance workshops and a spectacular show with a stellar lineup. Guest artists include the multi-talented musicians Naser Musa and Georges Lammam, and the legendary dancer/insructor Dahlena. Come see live music that is sizzling, energizing, passionate and unforgettable! The band includes the mesmerizing vocal and instrumental stylings of Naser Musa and Georges Lammam with a rocking percussion section including master percussionist Souhail Kaspar, Majdi Kurd, Elissa, and Joe Borik. Special dance performances by Dahlena, Carrie Konyha, and some surprises!

Doors open at 9:00 pm, Saturday October 6th. Come mingle, eat, dance, and enjoy the fantastic music! This is a concert and a party. Some food will be provided, but if you bring a potluck dish you will be worshipped and adored!

Admission is $20 in advance/$25 at the door. Register early – the last hafla sold out!

If you were planning to register for BBBF you had better do it now! Three of the workshops are sold out and the other three are only a few spots away from being full.

GOOD NEWS: We are working on a plan to offer a limited number of the workshops a second time at a studio next door to The Mystic Jewell. If you are dying to take a workshop that has sold out, let us know by signing up on our hotlist:

Also, we have a change in the workshop line-up. On Sunday, Oct 7th, the Zafira Sword Workshop at 11am-1pm has been changed to a Shimmy workshop! Yay for shimmies! Due to space limitations with swords, we’ve decided to change it up and offer a workshop that allows for more dancers to sign up.

Here’s the Shimmy Workshop Description, and you KNOW you want to take it! Who can resist SHIMMIES?!!

3/4 Shimmies!

Take your shimmies to the next level! In this workshop we will cover the classic 3/4 shimmy, with walking, layering exercises and drills. We will also take the 3/4 shimmy to parts of our bodies you never knew were supposed to 3/4 shimmy!

We will cover 4/4 shimmies as well to better understand and get better control of our hips.

To finish off our workshop we'll cover some unique combos utilizing what we learned, Zafira style!

Please bring water and a yoga mat for warm up & cool down.

If you want to take the shimmy workshop I suggest you sign up quick as this one is right around the corner from selling out too!

Open Bellydance - Aura: Emerald

Just posting a reminder that The Mystic Jewell Studio in collaboration with OvermindWorks is having our Aura event this Saturday, May 12th.

This is a very unique event that gives the bellydance community an opportunity to hang out, socialize and dance without the pressure or constraints of a performance or venue. It is simply The Mystic Jewell's way of providing a really cool laid back club like atmosphere with some fabulously bellydanceable tunes so us girls (and guys) can just hang out and dance! Absolutely everyone is welcome, we want to encourage the networking and community spirit of bellydancers everywhere. We are, after all, sisters (and brothers!) in dance. Bellydance tunes from 7-10pm, transitions to bellytrance for those brave souls thereafter. :) The music is also perfect for poi... spinners welcome!

If you oppose this please contact members of Congress and let them know what you think. If a massive letter writing / email / phone campaign were to flood Congress, it may have an effect.

Please tell them in your message that you EXPECT them to take immediate action to prevent any attack on Iran.

Obelysk at the Alwun House tonight

Obelysk will be playing for naked people at the Alwun House Exotic Art Show tonight, Friday February 9th. The show starts at 7 pm and will go until late. The members of Obelysk will not be naked.

Come see the "phantasmagorical arts spectacular" including eye-popping unhibited art show, Cabaret Casbah, Middle Eastern Dancers, Burlesque, Illustionists, Fetish Performance, Jazz, and DJ's. There will be Champagne & Chocolate, Complimentary Decadent Buffet.

Support local artists and have a great time! Alwun House is located at 1204 E Roosevelt and the event is $25. Remember, supports the arts and naked people everywhere. The members of the band including yours truly will be fully clothed.
