I want to make a practice staff. I've got a broom handle that's the right length and a has a nice feel, but it need to be a little heavier. I've seen people impale tennis balls on the ends and mount them with electrical tape, but I'm thinking there must be more than just the balls; perhaps something inside them? Also, I've seen soft rubbery strips of stuff wrapped around staves to add grip; what is that stuff?
Thanks, folk!

Re: Making practice staves
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 9:45 AMOne thing thats good and easy to simulate wick shape and weight is to slice up an old bicycle inntertube and wrap that around the ends of your stave. Screw it in just like you would kevlar. People use lots of different things for grips. You might try raquet tape, hockey stick grip tape, neoprene, leather, etc...

Mon, February 11, 2008 - 11:17 AMTennis racket tape is the best
Gamma Grip
Wilson grip
Prince grip
all of these you can find at sports autority and sporting goods store
buy 2 grips
make sure you find your center point first before you put it on
start wrapping from the center toward the staff end
do this on both sides, then you have a nicely weighted staff
