Pyrophonicville (RR) -- Recycled Rainbow 2008 is looking like it will be bigger and badder than ever. Head gatekeeper and queen Mediaeval Baebe reports that there are many new ideas for 2008, and many new faces.

"We found some fantabulous land this year!" she said excitedly, jumping up and down and spilling her absinthe. "One of the gorgeous freak things has been working on an art car for a few months now, and there will be a burlesque performance Friday night. I hear they're seeking performers for it."

When asked about the term "gorgeous freak things", Mediaeval Baebe pointed to a group photo of people otherwise known as "burners", or "those lame ass drug addicted dirty hippies" according to Fox News.

"There are loads of ideas and shenanigans being planned for RR this year. I don't even know WHERE to begin." MB reported. "We invite YOU to bring YOUR thing. Here's the stage, now you have the freedom to show your stuff."

Recycled Rainbow will be held Thursday, September 25th - Sunday the 28th. Tickets are on sale now. To purchase tickets (and get more information), visit the website @ http://www.recycledrainbow.org

Hey there excited InterFuse-lovin' people! As you know, this years effigy is a large TV-stage for performances. We have everything from an opening ceremony (Thurs at 6pm) to movies & documentaries to educational talks to poetry readings....and SO much more! The schedule is up on the website ( http://www.midwestburners.com/interfuse/eventsandperformers.html ) so check it out!

Even with all the scheduled programs there are still a few open slots just waiting for YOU, wonderful, beautiful participant, to....you guessed it....pARTicipate! Be it being a part of the poetry jam, talk show, fashion show, or creating your own programming.

For all you theme camps out there, perhaps a 'commercial' on the stage is JUST the thing for you. Just come to the stage, find the stage manager (Poosie Kat, JeffZ, Trish, and Laura) and there you go! Also, PSA's sound like a fun way to participate and share with the community at large. If you're a performer without a place to perform, this is your venue darlin', come out and share yourself with us! Fun for the performers and the viewers.

Be sure to come out to watch and/or add your talents to the list. There are still calls out for folks to participate in the Opening Ceremonies, Poetry Jam, Talk Show, Fashion Show, Bribe-per-View, and open time slots....so be sure to make your way over and join in the fun and excitement!

Stop by any of these times:

Thursday 6PM-Friday 5AM
Friday Noon-Saturday 6AM
Saturday Noon-4PM

The rest of the time the TV will be an open stage but without lights, sound, and video.

The schedule will also come in the form of a TV Guide with the Gate Handout at InterFuse.

ALSO, we desperately need night owl Stage Managers from 2AM-5AM Friday morning and 12:45AM-5AM Saturday morning! That's a 3 hour and a 4 hour 15 minute period! I KNOW there are two of you out there who can help out for 3-4 hours! These shifts are during Bribe-Per-View, so you'll be getting bribed to play movies. No live performance coordinating is needed! It will be very EASY and FUN!! Plus, Trish will give you bacon!

Hello everyone! Mediaeval Baebe here. I'm with Recycled Rainbow, a burn event in northern Ohio. We are in a bit of a puddle here, and if you could help us at all, it would be wonderful! :) We're searching for land, as we cannot use the same place we had last year. If you know of a possible location, please contact info(at)recycledrainbow(dot)org, reply to this, send me a message, whatever. :) Thank you!

I will post a message from everyman (one of my fellow organizers), as he sums it up well.

Fire and Light,
~Mediaeval Baebe~
starlie(at)emeraldfrequency(dot)com

************************************

This is everyman, one of the folks responsible for the Recycled Rainbow
event which took place in NE Ohio last year.

We have also sold 30 ticket reservations to this year's event scheduled to
take place in late September, which is unprecedented momentum. One minor
problem: *** we don't have a place to put it! ***

We are desperately looking for land within a 2.5 hour drive of
Cleveland, OH (which extends into Pennsylvania, and we're okay with that.)

What is Recycled Rainbow? Since 2002, people from Northeast Ohio and
beyond have gathered in a private residence twice a year and still there
is no strong definition of what Recycled Rainbow is. It is a community of
friends and strangers. Last year, Recycled Rainbow moved to the outdoors
changing everything and yet changing very little. It is a four-day
festival in a large outdoor space. It is a modern experimental salon. It
is a "no spectator" event. It is a festival where anything goes. It is a
local experiment in community and expression. It is a place to try out
that new idea you have for a sculpture or performance. It is difficult to
describe.

It is, in few words, what you turn it into. You have the reigns as much as
anyone else does. Does it have a drive-in theater? If you build a drive in
theater, it will. Does it have a stage for experimental performance art?
It does if you build one. Does it have clowns? Do you know a mob of clowns
and can you bring them?. Recycled Rainbow challenges you to do what you've
wanted to do within a set of 10 guidelines. One of those guidelines is
Participation. Like Burning Man, RR has a different theme each year ...
this year the theme is "Mutation."

http://www.recycledrainbow.org

Specifics we need in terms of land:

Event is scheduled to take place September 25 - 28th, Thursday - Sunday
150 people are expected to attend.

* Needs to be Outdoors
* 30-40 acres would work
* No facilities are required (it's fine if they are present but we are
self-sufficient, will rent porta-johns, provide our own power, etc.)
* we'd prefer a wide open space secluded from the road
* if the land is very remote, we would find that ideal
* Noise & music should be permissible after midnight
* There may be art cars (go-carts, scooters) present
* We could potentially have events going all day and night around the clock
* Ideal if there is a source for ice and firewood nearby
* We would like to have camp fires
* We would like to be able to burn an art structure (or several)
* We will Leave No Trace
* We will financially compensate
* We will have at least one paramedic present during this event
* We are self-policing but willing to meet with neighbors, city
authorities, permanent camping residents to discuss & inform well in
advanced of the event
* Prefer a location in NE Ohio, but willing to go as far as Columbus or
halfway to Pittsburgh, PA

We are open to any and all options.

Furthermore, please actively help us search! We *NEED* our Burning Man
community's assistance in this regard and would greatly appreciate any
tips or advice on where to look, who to ask, where to advertise, and how
to better go about this. Still learning, still exploring.

Thank you for your help during the Recycled Rainbow growth period.

Sincerely, everyman & the Recycled Rainbow staff

Hi!
I wanted to let everyone know about a new burn, and I am part of the planning team for it, so my opinion is biased!

The burn is "Wicker Man," to be held Thursday through Monday, Memorial Day weekend; and we have a setup weekend, the weekend before. We are trying to lay the groundwork that will grow into a full-on burn, with an amazing site, roads for art cars, a $4,000 art grant budget and plans for a stupendous effigy.

We will be using Four Quarters as our site, which has the rep as one of the most edgy and progressive non-profit camps on the east coast. They have given us their full support for Wicker Man. Four Quarters has a piped water system, hot showers, flush toilets and of course port-a-potties. Buried power lines for their bio-fueled camp generator, a covered stage and three swimming holes. Lots of camping under tall trees and out in the sun too. And 2 miles of gravelled roads. Four Quarters is located 100 miles west of DC and Baltimore, just off I-68.

We want to develop a burn that is art focused and will support big art. And one that has a vision of the future of burns that is sustainable, ecologically responsible and leaves behind a small foot print. Thus "Wicker Man;" the old celebration of the Green Man and Green energy. We already have over 20 theme camps and art projects registered, and we are just beginning our announcements. We plan to have three "Theme Towns." "Sound Town," where we can run sound all night long, like the Gaian MInd psytrance festival held at Four Quarters. "Sin City" down along the river, a cure for what ever ails you. And "Center Circle," a place for nature and spirit; held inside the amazing stone circle at Four Quarters. (Yes, there is a circle of standing stones and they are BIG!)

And then there is the Man. Planned at 35 feet high our man stands on a round Temple to the Spirit of Fire, a big enough room that you can enter and place your own art and offerings to the burn. The roof of the temple is a deck upon which stands the Man, and people can stand too.. His belly is the Upper Temple, with room for just one person at a time. Each of his arms will hold a flaming fire pot, and we hope, will move as he burns. This is a huge project and we are looking to get as many people involved in his construction as possible. Ground breaking for the Man is Friday, May 9th, and then the next two weekends until he burns.

I could go on and on, but our web site is up, with the first design drawings for the Man, pictures of art grant projects and theme camps. We have a list serve / forum too. So visit the web site at wickermanburning.org for much more info.

hey all, i've got to get a quote to a client for a potential gig in February (they haven't settled on an exact date yet) in downtown Cleveland. one of the ideas they'd like quoted is a string of 15-20 fire performers each lighting off of each other in order and each doing their thing (poi, staff, fans, devil stick, juggling torches, torch swinging, or whatever) then passing the flame on to the next person and the last person will set off some big sculpture/bonfire.

each person would only be using their preferred prop and would only be burning for about 3 minutes, thus you do not need to be a seasoned professional with a full 30-minute show, just able to rock a clean routine. and you do need to be able to follow directions, work with a group, be reliable and have reliable props (i'm lookin at you, Burn Unit).

so, here's a test of the "follow directions" part. if you are interested, send me a message (not a reply post to this thread) with the following information by thursday (12/6) evening:

1-your name and email address (regular email, not tribe profile)

2-your prop of choice (and your 2nd and 3rd props of choice if applicable)

3-how much you would charge for 1 burn as described above, 2 burns, 3 burns and 4 burns

any message missing any of the above information will be automatically deleted.

i'm not sure if the client will go for it, but if they do then this could be a really fun opportunity for all of us to get paid to work together. thanks for your time and interest.

keep warm, my friends.
HI! I am coordinating a brand new local festival that will hopefully
become an annual event. It is called octOHburn and will be held
October 5-7 at Hannon's Camp America near Oxford Ohio. It will be a
weekend of collaborative art projects, large scale fires, tribal
dancing and performance, and radical self-expression. This is a Leave
No Trace event and there is absolutely no commerce associated within
Other than firewood and ice, there will be no vending permitted. If you have something to give, gift it out. If you have something you need, bring it in!

Pack everything you'll need for the weekend, take it out when you go, and leave no trace!

There will be no dumpsters or trash cans or trips to the convenience store. Electricity and water are available in the main 'Downtown' campsite, and primitive camping is available in the adjacent "Invisible City".

Prepare for rain!

Prepare for anything, so you can do anything.

Recycled Rainbow is an inclusive community project of which you are an integral part. You are radically responsible, but you are radically free! How will you contribute?

Each event has its own distinct theme. In lieu of our push for radical self-reliance, this year's will be Armageddon. Participants are encouraged to employ this theme in their artworks, costumes, and camps.

Tickets are available on-line through recycledrainbow.org, or in person from a Recycled Rainbow organizer, or at the gate (prices increase on Saturday.).

For further information on purchasing tickets, directions, and a guide for first-time campers, visit the Recycled Rainbow website at recycledrainbow.org, and feel free to befriend us at myspace.com/recycledrainbow
The Ka-tet (Earth Guardian Base Camp): We are a group of friends brought together to create a camp of fun and openess. We will have a participation dome with games tounaments during the day and projection art at night. It will be very interactive and will even have times for other people to present their art.

The Laser Dome: In a nut shell our camp is a psychodelic laser experiance contained within a 42' diameter 5/8 geodesic dome, with a 18x20 tent enterance. Inside the dome is a 7000 watt sound system, with 8 medium powered red & green lasers, and other intelligent lighting. Our dj's provide a healthy mix of trance, house, breaks, and hip-hop. Also every day at dusk we project psychodelic movies inside the dome during what we call Cryptik Theater.

Hum 'n Hug North: Wander into our realm where a gazillion musical instruments are everywhere waiting to be picked up and played, waiting to have strains of music of many sorts coaxed out of them. Jamming. Consorting. Communing. Fun. Come play - come jam - come hug! Originally started at Transformus, the Southeast Regional Burn, the Ohio contingent of the group looks forward to being a part of Scorched Nuts!

Camp Happy Hour: It's always Happy Hour with us! We provide concoctions of all varietys to quench your thirst. We have a comfy chill space, a little bit of lawn art, and tons of fun!

Tribal Belly Dance Camp: Fun, Funky & Powerful tribal belly dancing. Including workshops and performances!

Blinky Blinky Blinky: I've done a bunch of art on the Playa, The L2K ring, the L3K ring last year, and the hypknowtrons. I'll bring the hypknowtrons and set up some very nice blinky art.

Camp Pornyata: An adult themed camp bringing gifts of spanking open pornyata's to recieve adult toys, gifts ect. 18 and over only.

Radical Faerie Camp: We are a mixed gender queer group of folks that would love to create queer safe space at the gathering.

YOU SHOULD ALL COME TO WILDFIRE!! For those of you who haven't heart of it, WildFire is: "WildFire is the East Coast's premier fire and fire related performing arts training camp. Situated in a picturesque Southern CT wooded river front location, with all meals provided and full facilities (including hot showers), WildFire is the perfect spot for you to share, grow, discover, and learn with our fire, drum, dance, and performing arts community. This event is not open to the public or non-performing artist (beginners are very welcome).

The Spring 07 gathering will begin Thursday afternoon, June 7th and last through Sunday, June 10th. Tickets are $75 in advance (up to June 1st) and $100 there after.

Hi everyone!

I have great news! I have an aerial arts instructor from Arizona who is willing to travel here to teach a workshop on aerial arts. For those of you who do not know what aerial arts are, think circus stuff like trapeze, bungee dancing, aerial hoop, or (my dream) aerial silks. An aerial art is anything done up in the air.

We are still in the planning stages, but it will probably be sometime in September or October, and I am estimating it will be in the $150 range. Expensive, I know, but this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and it is still cheaper than going to Chicago to take a workshop at the Aloft Loft (which I still plan on doing someday! lol)

Before I go too far in planning this, I need to know it will be supported. So if you are SURE you want to do this (i.e. you will definitely be there as long as the date does not conflict with a previously arranged engagement), please email me. I will then put you on an informational email list, and will send you a list of exercises to do on a pull-up bar, so that when the workshop comes, you have some strength developed to do the tricks. The instructor recommends putting the pullup bar in a doorway you pass by often, and everytime you go by it to do a pull up or two.

The instructor does not yet have a website for her Arizona classes, but here is her myspace page:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=30600071
Friday 12/1/6

at the SAFMOD studio.
Cleveland, OH 44103

take route 90/2 to E. 72nd st. exit and head south (that would be away from the lake)--turn left on St. Clair--turn right on E. 76th st.--a block up on the right is a big old school (the Hodge School), pull in the parking lot and park--#100A is in the smaller brick annex right next to and directly south of the big building. come around the front and ring the bell on the left.

yes, it is the 'hood, but unless you start trouble (or leave valuable objects in your car) you will most likely not find trouble. anyhow, it is due to the poor location that the cops don't harass us for lighting things on fire. most beneficial.
So, here's the deal, right now there are three definite camp members and one maybe. Not a lot of people, but there's still time to plot and plan. So, this year we're working on a camp that will consist of a double dome design (one dome for the public and one for our private camp use with a fire barrell....which would heat the public dome during the evening), a stage for performances of any kind (if you want to contribute a poem, a dance, a play, etc....do, do, do it), and at least one effigy contribution (we're workin' on designs and procession plans at this time). Now, if you're wanting/planning/hoping to go and would like to camp with others from the upper midwest/great lakes area, just let me know. Also, if you want to contribute to any of the above projects, again, let me know....same with questions, comments, and critiques. Oh....and if you want to stay with us, but aren't able to be there the whole time....don't worry one bit about it...we'll make sure that you have a space to call your own.

The planning has begun!

I would like to know about people/groups/classes within a three-hour radius of either Dayton or Cincinnati. Here is what I can think of off the top of my head. Please add more if I did not list you or someone you know. I especially would like northern KY and SE Indiana groups, since I am not overly familiar with who is there:

Pyrokinetika: www.pyrokinetika.com - Weekly classes at Kira's Oasis, Dayton, (and hopefully soon weeklys at Gaiananda!)
Soul Fire Tribe: http://www.home.earthlink.net/~soulfiretribe/ - Weekly classes at Antioch U, Yellow Springs
Incendium: www.incendiumarts.com - Cincinnati, OH - Grimm and Lyndsie
Dragon's Breath: http://www.spinningdragon.com/ - Louisville, KY - Benji

So gather together we will!!

On Saturday, March 4th, we plan on having a fire bash here at my house (eastern Cincinnati) not only in celebration of Chris' visit, but in celebration of Jon's, Steph's, and my birthdays (which just all happen to be around the same time!)

I would like to extend the invitation to anyone who might want to travel down for the event. So far we have fire peeps from here in Cincy, Columbus, and the Cleveland/Akron area planning to show.

If interested, let me know! If you have any questions or comments about the event, please feel free to post them!! Specific details have not been figured out yet, but hopefully we can figure all that out here!
What would you say to a set of LED poi that have different colored lights going out along the string, so that when you spin them you get concentric circles of color? How would you feel if I said that I've been working on R&D with a Juggling companyto develop a set that would be both commercially available and *affordable*? Would you drool if I said they would have a strobing mode? And would be mad durable? And not be way too light like a lot of LED poi are?

The more people show interest, the more resources they will devote to this product. The more resources they devote to the product, the more awesome we can make this. And perhaps a few prototypes would make it into the hands of professional spinners for publicity purposes before they are released...

So reply to this post if you want to see these poi put into production, and feel free to tell me features that you'd want them to have!

PS: the guys who are making these poi are awesome. They don't use sweatshop labor for any of their products, they and don't sell fire poi - instead they sell kevlar, books on how to make them, and tell people to go to their local hardware store for the parts to make 'em. They don't rip people off - it's amazing.

i got a pretty awesome website setup for xmas, so if anyone wants a subdomain off of it (it would be www.yoursite.pyrokinetika.com) just let me know. there are no ads, is frontpage compatable, and can hold a HUGE amount of videos or stuff.

ill go ahead and start with pyrokinetika; academy of the fire arts. we are still a new group, about 4 months old or so. we gather once weekly (are taking a break for the holidays right now though) at my house in dayton, ohio. our members come from a pretty large area though, so if youre wanting to come, i might be able to get ya a carpool.

we have a tribe called pyrokinetika, and our current website is www.pyrokinetika.bravehost.com . but i am about to start working on our new website www.pyrokinetika.com . i believe i have a few subdomains available, so if anyone is interested in one for their group let me know. it would be www.yourgroup.pyrokinetika.com .
