The Installation worked perfectly - (let's hope it now survives the mean old desert and the so called "tripper damage").
Lots of beer was drunk, lots of slightly off key songs were sung - great send-off gathering!
A few photos from the event are in this tribe's collection.

Clicking thu the photos from earliest to latest posts will show the whole damn process of assembling this blinking thing. It's been a smorgasbord of emotional multi-leveled thrills and chills. I wouldn't have missed it, and I never want to do it again!
Now, for the playa....

Late July project update:
The Omagination project is moving along well.
In it's current state I suspect a couple of us could assemble a working version in a day's work. (We'll hopefully have two days set-up and a team of workers).
The remaining tasks consist of a a fair amount of detail tweaking, decoration, condensing for transport and miscellaneous hair pulling.
Our current plan is to stage a practice assembly / art opening event for the piece about a week before our departure. This will give us some assembly practice as well as test for any last minute problems.
We've also started to assemble our personal camp gear and general Burning Man baggage to get a head start on all of that, hopefully avoiding having that activity interfering with the finishing work on the project.
The last week has seen a lot of focus on paint and decorative detail. The surface of the large disc is essentially complete and combines a mandala of flames woven into a map of Black Rock City. There is plenty of blank space on the disc that will receive the scorched patterns from the sunlight focused thru the lenses.
Miraculously, we appear to have stayed on budget, with various expenses coming out either lower or higher than estimated, but with the total almost exact.
We've had several conversations about self imposed pressure to perform. In spite of various work styles, philosophies, degrees of commitment, fatalisms and such, we're all feeling a sense of having our asses on the line on a high profile (at least in our communities) public project.
I think we all feel we're doing everything possible to make sure this rocket actually hits the moon, so to speak.
After that, one supposes it's up to the caprices of the divinities.
Also, as is usual in these crazy group projects, the amount of time and effort involved is suprisingly high.
So far it has largely been loads of fun - come to think of it that was probably the original idea.
Upward and Onward!

We've got a few scraggly ideas about all this, but we're both fearful and hopeful about what bizarre and/or soul stirring ideas YOU might have to add.
Don't hold back! Cough em up!
Quotes, heavy concepts, smart ass remarks, all FINE.
Different languages would be just DUCKY too. If'n it's in some other alphabet (say, chinese), send a message and we'll figure out how to transmit such a thing to our secret headquarters.
The steel base, motorized workings to turn the main disc, and various other basic structural components are essentially complete. Hopefully photos will be posted here soon.
Several scale models of the main disc are underway with alternative design motifs for the surface of the main disc.
Lenses are accumulating and be tested in the spring sunshine. Hardware for mounting the lenses is being experimented with.
Sunlight sensitive electronic sensors, various arrangements of peripheral fencing etc are being dabbled with.
We are hoping to bring extra wood and lenses to allow visitors to burn their own messages and designs with, these will be incorporated into the peripheral fence.
There is a possibility this project will be filmed at various stages for an Oregon Public Broadcast program on arts in Oregon.. let's hope it happens!
We are discussing possibly having a Eugene event as an opening of the project, a trial run with it's own main disc, saving the main disc for the Burning Man festival.
We are still recruiting and finalizing our official team of five artists which the festival will admit early for set-up.
That's it so far...
