So what do people want to eat? Here is your chance to contribute your 2 cents and get your favorite dish on the menu.
there is no oven, but there is a stove... so what kind of stove top meals can you pre-prepare, freeze and thaw, that you would want to see on your plate come burningman. i've got a few suggestions...
i know i would love to see a big pasta meal on friday or saturday. pasta is great for long term energy... maybe with a non-veg meat sauce option? pasta bolognese (spaghetti and sauce with meat or "meat") with a veggie side is super easy... the only hurdle is boiling all that pasta in a short time. ideas?
chili worked great out there as well, and is another dish that can be easily modified for veg and non veg tastes... just add finely ground pan fried hamburger to the pot at the same time you would add more delicate ingredients like onion. the secret is to add some of the drippings from the fry pan as well...
i really love Jay's yeasty tofu dish. if someone wanted to get the recipe from him for that one that would be great.
curry?
stew?

Re: OMCC meals... What Do You Want?
Thu, June 26, 2008 - 12:53 AMHi all,
I'm one of your meal makers, and, as the southern representative on this venture, I was thinking some sort of southern themed meal, what say you all?
The question I have for you is... what do you think of when you think of the south, and food? there is more to it than frying everything in sight; I'm not going to deep fry twinkies, they're really gross.

Re: OMCC meals... What Do You Want?
Thu, June 26, 2008 - 3:44 AMgrr tribe kicked me off, lost whole post....
reconstructed:
I like cooking Thai and Indian food. Big portions, could go vegetarian/vegan easily. Was also thinking about pasta. Fresh pasta cooks fast--never done it myself but could do some experiments to see how it works. O and maybe some kind of salad thing that would keep/travel well...i imagine could be good for the dry ass playa, Playa.
need to do some more brainstorming, but that's what I'm coming up with now.

Re: OMCC meals... What Do You Want?
Thu, June 26, 2008 - 7:52 AMIdeas:
Pasta with meat sauce/veggie red sauce – garlic bread & salad
Veggie burgers/hamburgers with all the fixins and chips and pickles
Oriental Cuisine (ie Thai, Indian, Chinese, etc. with options of tofu/meat or no meat)
Kabobs (though these take a while and never fill people up)
Burritos (grill up some shrimp for them maybe)
Fruit
Stir-fry
Pre make falafel and grill it up with pita, hummus, tomato, lettuce, tahini
Dolma sold at Costco is a great snack if kept cold
Bruschetta would be easy to make (grill bread & top with tomatoes and such)
...and.....back to work. -

Re: OMCC meals... What Do You Want?
Thu, June 26, 2008 - 1:56 PMCount me as another down with the Pasta Plan - Major Carbs for Major Energetic Run-Abouts -
Other than that I'm very open to anything new & stimulating.
My only need I'd voice for myself & the rest? of us lactose intolerant folks would be
milk-less options with each meal - Probably already in the notes - but there ya go.
OH! & about Bread:
Do Not Buy Bread!
We here in Santa Cruz have the hookup for bread - yes, in massive amounts.
Sourdough is the -only- request that can be met, (Rye at times) all else is simply a bready-clusterphuk
Estimate how many loafs (within reason! ;P) & I can make that happen - it'll only be a matter of cool packing & shaded spot for them @ camp.
If not wanted in mass amounts - I can take small requests for any playa breadphiles. -

Re: OMCC meals... What Do You Want?
Thu, June 26, 2008 - 4:33 PMIm thinking of doing a cous-cous dish - lactose free and vegan - basically cous-cous in one pot (stove burner 1), big tomatoey vegatabley stew in another pot (giant defrosty burner), and maybe the option of some mergese sausages? (on the last burner) -

Fri, June 27, 2008 - 4:59 PMHey Lia, I am also a lactose intolerant vegan who can help with "veganizing" food before it gets meat, cheese, or eggified...i also have a bunch of easy, tasty meals that can be of some help. -

Re: OMCC meals... What Do You Want?
Fri, June 27, 2008 - 5:12 PMdon't worry... last year ALL the food at camp was vegan, and we'll be pretty close to that this year is my guess. i just mentioned all the meatyness to see if we can't get SOME on the menu. -

Re: OMCC meals... What Do You Want?
Fri, June 27, 2008 - 9:21 PMWith respect to the non meat eaters, it would be pretty sweet to get some meat in the offerings. burgers are pretty easy on a skillet, and easy to mix with vegetarian burger alternatives.
Also, snackage food ideas? With all the bread coming some peanut butter and jelly is always nice between meals. -
