It's pretty rough... but it's my most recent work. This time around it's 100% me... I programed the drums, the bass, and the organ. The guitar is recorded live.

I was watching a bit a couple months ago on homeless veterans, and their migrant nature, and the fact that it's very difficult to keep track of the numbers. This is just a rough sketch; I had truthfully forgotten about this until digging through data this evening. Man I sure hope I took good notes - I know I have lyrics for a _whole_ song for sure, but may have lost the chord charts, etc.

At any rate - a very personal piece, and I figured it was time to show off the sketch.

C3 Psychoto-electro Arkestra - the Happy Fools Party

I'm guest guitarist for the night, and STOKED about it!

The Convergence Conspiracy Collective is an ensemble of
musicians and artists formed near the end of 2002 with a
desire to express a unified vision of radically transformed
consciousness: a human race which "gets it", which has
somehow miraculously grown up and come to its senses.
Ridiculous, yes, we know. Such a thing could never happen,
right? Impossible, and only fools would choose to believe
in such a thing. Right. Well, happy fools are we.

Thoughts are things. Welcome to the Happy Fools Party and
to the possibility of a new era for the human race.

Thoughts flooding my mind as I leave a little piece of desert behind - a place I call "home" and visit for only a week of each year.

(That's a double-rainbow in the desert in the photo - look close.)

My post-playa induced decompression moment. Rough, and fun. I had a Joe Satriani sort of tone in mind for the lead guitar, but the studio is starting to show its limitations already. I did have quite a bit of fun splicing short copies of the lead phrase in at the end, one track bouncing slightly behind the other, then out of phase, and back again. It's an interesting feel, that I expect I'll be repeating with more accurate measurement in the future. [I'm lazy in Pro Tools and usually let things run in the Spot or Grid mode so things quantize, even if in a minuscule fashion, to a time reference other than what I'm feeling as I play with it. Ultimately, I should slip into "Slip" mode for more precision.]

The rhythm is an acoustic bit that came to me, guitar in hand on the front porch immediately after returning home from Burning Man, when everyone else had finally gone home and the silence became deafening. Smoking what I hoped but knew would not be the last cigarette of my life, I reflected on the past twelve months - net gains, net losses, and some very beautiful moments and special characters in between.

The lead is a quickie, one take essentially with all errors in their raw glory. I give you "Coming Home".

Hey folks - I'm forty-six flavors of excited to report I have released an independent CD today [my first!]; twelve tracks of the past year of my life. I'm WAY excited about some of the tracks on this platter... it's been an amazing journey of discovery and experimentation in my little makeshift studio.

Wanna get your greedy little hands on it now?

Exciting New Developments! [?]

OK folks... just so you know:
I responded to an add on the Kansas City Backpage.com site
(essentially, the national clearing house for back page adds from
Pitch Weekly, etc.) and was warmly received for an audition with a
drummer, as well as vocalist/keyboardist - the rehearsal was last
Saturday June 23rd. They're looking to form a new band.

I think I was one of two auditioned, and long story short, they liked
me a lot. We got together again this previous Saturday (June 30th) to
jam and work on material and get to know each other better. We've got
some good stuff coming out of it already - pretty raw, but the basic
elements are there and have me chomping at the bit to push the
envelope.

I hope I'm not jumping the gun too terribly much, but the excitement
is too much to keep to myself. We three have strengths and weaknesses
we bring to the table, but as a whole the dynamic for these first
multi-hour sessions has been very interesting. Me and my work, my
style, my habits and such, have never been so well received so I'm
having an absolute ball. Who knows - this might be what I've been
looking for. It's far too early to know what the desires will
ultimately be for my new compatriots... but I'd be silly if I didn't
admit I can imagine this "becoming" One Bad Grandma easily enough if
nobody is too attached to previous ideas, names, concepts and the
like. Let's hope so, eh?

In the interim:
I'm re-mastering tunes I've published previously, in particular those
that have incorrectly low volumes when played in regular car/home
stereo equipment and the like. I'm hoping to accomplish a lot of this
overnight tonight, and have essentially a mini-EP titled "Exile on
Booth" available for July 4th release. If you've received one of my
DiscRevolt promo cards with download credits, you will be able to
download this entire album. At present, I anticipate it will have
seven tracks, and will download for six credits. What, don't have a
card? Hit me up! Of course, if you're gonna hit me up in person, you
may as well hit me up for _the_ CD itself.

Howdy all - I've decided to start making use of many of the wonderful technologies that Google provides. I'm using Google for my primary email address, to track my calendar, and now also to provide an outlet for my fan base.

Although Google Groups have lots of other features, I'm utilizing it primarily as a mailing list. I'll share information such as upcoming shows, new material releases and the like almost exclusively from this mailing list in the future - and it's handy to allow users to join or leave the group on their own.

For the time being, I'm leaving things pretty open. You must be a member to post to the group, and all members are thus far allowed to post anything they want to. If some marketing droids or spammers stumble upon us, we'll tighten things down a bit. If you'd like to join the group, feel free to visit:

http://groups.google.com/group/onebadgrandma

The new website, which is all about all things One Bad Grandma, is available here:
http://onebadgrandma.com

[Hit me up in flesh-space, and I'll get you one of the snazzy Discrevolt laminates with a special redemption code - allowing you to download fifteen songs from Discrevolt. (Mine or anyone elses for that matter.)]

OK so... not always a guitarist exclusively. I've been working on this here and there for a couple of days.
Would love to know what ya'll think of it. (And yes, there will be guitar before the weekend comes and goes if I have my way.)

So... my good friend Tony Kaos has blessed me with a FABULOUS opportunity... details are forthcoming but we've "inked" a deal (digitally) for One Bad Grandma to perform at the Holy RoadHouse in Columbia Missouri on March 10th, 2007!

W00t! My first _real_ gig - with a set between 45 and 60 minutes. I'll be sharing my most polished material, and tossing some covers along the way. Thus far, I'm planning on presenting this as a primarily accoustic evening in a very intimate setting. The lovely Astar will be sitting in with me to provide additional vocals (yes, I'm really going to sing ya'll) and I expect this to be a very laid back, special engagement. What better way to kick off my triumphant return to the Kansas City market?

Holy Roadhouse information is available over at http://www.holyroadtours.com/comohouse.php
(Go on admit it - this placed is COOLER than COOL!)

THIS IS THE CALL - if you've an interest in providing limited accompanyment (such as shakers, small drums [bongo/congo/djembe], or feel good with your fingers on a baby grand piano) PLEASE contact me ASAP. Rehersals for this engagement will be frequent at my house in Kansas City, but don't fret - we're not shooting for the stars, only the moon. I'd be HONORED to share this evening with other musicians, and of course my friends and family.

Namaste,
Kyrka

OK folks... I really _should_ have been cleaning house to prep for a pot-luck dinner this weekend but...
(Well, actually I needed this "recorded" for a few folks to listen to in the event we're gonna collaborate for March 10th, etc.)

Anyway - this is my first try with vocals so if you're gonna throw tomatoes just be sure they're digital and won't stain my shirt. ;)

This is a little weird. I had big plans to work on something else this week, but this thing I wrote around age 16 kept coming back to me. In the end, I found the notebook I'd scribbled it in, along with all the stray bits of paper I'd reworked it on and decided to "get started" on the sound I had in my head way back when.

It's by no means finished... there are only six tracks present, with only three of those being guitar thus far. I'm fixing to hit the sack, as it's nearly 3:00 am and I have _other shit_ to do as well but... you can expect drums and bass, perhaps some keys too (all MIDI of course) and (gasp!) vocals when I feel I can do them justice. (Hopefully this weekend, we'll see on that part.)

This is still rough, but I'm having fun with it. I expect this to be my best work ever, when I get there.

Hey all,
I've been having brief conversations via email with Lorin (A.K.A. bassnectar) and have received a blessing to add guitar to a track or two of my choosing from his Mezmerizing the Ultra release. I;m leaving Kansas City for Iowa within the hour, and will be spending the next several days on this...
I came up with the rythm bit for this four or more months ago... and promised this to my dear sweet grandmother (Margarette) for her birthday about two months ago as well. With hard work, perserverance, and a little luck, I can have it in final form for Christmas.

Yeah so I've nearly busted my promise _this_ week as well as the last.

I generally get a lot of work done on Monday/Tuesday on my lunch hour - as fate would have it, I'm scheduled in a series of meetings nearly all day today beginning at 11:00 am. (And I'll be cracked out as usual tomorrow if I play at Blayney's tonight - I skipped last week, didn't want to carry the amp out in the rain. If it's still raining tonight, I might skip again - but I really need a dose!)

I will have _something_ up soon - I've got a friend in Lawrence with a great voice who's up for adding vocals where mine suck, I just need to get it on paper and ship her the raw tracks for a thorough massage. (It's hard, because honestly I have to be trusting enough to send her my really crappy vocal track as a "reference" so she can hear me failing miserably and understand right away what I'm lookin for.) This is going to be a primarily accoustic piece - having actually written some lyrics for a change and having a particular feeling I want the piece to conjure in your mind when you hear it. We'll see, huh?

We'll get it done soon I hope, but I'll likely go in a completely different direction with another short piece I "revisited" this morning before work so I have something "new" to share before weeks end. Rest assured - new music before Monday!

Howdy all - a whirlwind of activity this week, and I'd love to spew and get everyone caught up on so many wonderful happenings, but that's really for my blog. http://people.tribe.net/kyrka

Alas, the most important thing I want to accomplish right now is making sure those who are interested know where they can find the various bits and pieces of music I'm working on... obviously I want a wide audience, but more importantly, I want feedback from those who know and love me.

We all know MySuck is terrible - yeah, I'll keep four tunes up there and whatever [ http://www.myspace.com/dustindecker ] ... but it's clunky and juvenille. Tribe doesn't provide a medium for sharing media such as this, nor do I think I would care for it to become a focus in such a wonderful community or I would suggest it time and again to Mark Pincus. I have my own personal website, but my bandwidth can cost me a lot of cash after lots of downloads, so I've decided to solidify distribution for the time being on iCompositions. My Macintosh friends will certainly appreciate the interface and such (even though I myself don't own a Mac - yet) and it's a great place for me to collaborate with artists abroad. (You can also provide feedback on the site, which I crave.)

So, if you're in the browsing mood, my artist page is located here:
http://www.icompositions.com/artists/kyrka

Each new release will be posted in this tribe, with a direct link to the new song on iCompositions. Enjoy, and stay tuned... I've got lots of stuff on the front burner now.
Luv,
Dustiin

Yeah so, I tried to get a jump start on my promise to record "something" every week over lunch today. Man, what a disaster.
I'm not disappointed with my playing, but there's a VERY differecet in the way I sound "singin along" to something and singing all by myself. On playback, the noise nearly frightened me.

With H4 quickly approaching this weekend, I'm not sure I'm gonna make good on my promise... but I can tell you this; todays recording will never see the light of day. :(

Welcome to the Dustin Decker tribe - who's gonna be the first victim?

Yeah so - I went home over lunch, fired up the toys, and in a scant 10 mintues, this is what came out.
A noisy little song 2:14 in length, all errors included, rough, with no edits.

I'll clean it up with appropriate fades at some point - but do tell, how is it so far?

Changes to the Dustin Decker tribe [One Bad Grandma]

OK, first and foremost - I'm going to be passing moderator duties to Kimbery in the not too distant future. She has graciously offered (flat out demanded) to be President of my "fan club", and I'm totally cool with that. As she puts it, it will allow me to be completely narcissistic through shameless self promotion, without actually appearing so.

In addition, I really do think the tribe should be renamed. I was all ready to just do it, but figured it might confuse current members, or perhaps even plain old weird them out to find a different tribe name listed, and invoke unsubscriptions and the like. Consider this post fair notice that it will happen "real soon now".

OK so, many moons ago I figured a band name would be a difficult task to address. I've thought about this since I was about 16, and nothing seemed like a good fit, or if it did it was already taken or easily confused with some other band, yadda yadda yadda. Just about a year ago, however, a family engagement provided a perfect solution. The story is a bit long and convoluted, but bear with me.

I have two cousins in the Kansas City area, both of whom have children of their own now - so my little tike Spencer has 1st cousins and such. We haven't had a whole lot of opportunities to get together, parents being busy as hell and the like. It's just one of those things, close cousins growing up and becoming adults and whatever. We did manage to get all three of these 1st cousins together to play at the park and have some fun not far from my Aunt Margie's place. When we were through with that, she wanted to take all the kids to McDonalds for an ice cream cone.

One of my cousins has a boy just a couple months in age difference from Spencer. Now, I don't want to sound judgemental or whatever, but I think what I say about all of this will make it pretty obvious we come from different shools of thought in terms of child rearing, discipline, and the like. I think this beautiful little boy (let's call him Spike, his nickname) is going to be a LOT of trouble to mommie and daddy when he gets older if they don't make some changes. In short, I think he's spoiled absolutely ROTTEN. Aunt Margie puts Spike in his booster in the back seat of her expedition, and Spencer and I hop in and we head out to McDonalds.

So we arrive, and Aunt Margie pulls into a parking spot. Spike is dis-pleased with her selection of parking spaces, and starts to throw a fit. I dunno, I might be completely wrong (I doubt it) but I think attempting to use logic with a five year old is silly sometimes. You're either an authority figure in their life or not. A debate between she and he ensues in which she attempts to reason with him... once they've reached the point at which I frankly would have already pulled him out of the car and applied my hand to his glutes, he starts screaming at the top of his lungs, "Bad Grandma! Bad Grandma!" (Spencer and I headed into McDonalds at this point.) Once inside with everyone else, ice cream and stuff around the table, I had the epiphany that leads to what I think I should name my band. (Not that everyone there was particularly amused when I declared it.)

To come full circle, I think "Bad Grandma" or perhaps "One Bad Grandma" is a pretty groovy name for a band, and I'm inclined to just run with it now... (It also gives me a name I can use while I recruit a rythm section, vocalist, all that jazz.)

So, what's everyone think?

This is yet another lunch hour throw down...
I've been playin with, practicing, and modifying the lead for months - but I'll be damned if I can hit it right with 20 takes in 30 minutes. smiley

Obviously, I'll be spending "real time" with this later, I want to make it shine. (I've switched to Cubase as well, so you'll have to suffer my learning curve I guess.)

New Mix of "What the Hell is This?"

Howdy folks,
Got some new gear last night, and made the switch from ProTracks (branded Cakewalk) to Cuebase... and from a mixing perspective I think quality just increaded by a power of ten. (Definately better overhead, less THD, etc.)

The new gear is a PreSonus Inspire 1394... firewire interface, extremely low latency...
The front panel of the INSPIRE 1394 features two custom-designed PreSonus microphone preamplifiers with +48V phantom power and two instrument Hi-Z inputs. The back of the INSPIRE features selectable line or phono (with RIAA filter) inputs great for all types of keyboards, samplers, drum machines and turntables. Outputs on the INSPIRE 1394 include RCA unbalanced and mini TRS jacks as well as headphone output. All that and a new guitar strap too!

Anyway moving to the new mixing software thus, here's a new release of "What the Hell is This?"
Namaste,
