Re: Food?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 9:58 AMFood wasn't very important to me until I became pregnant with my 1st child, and then it's like my sense of taste was opened... Smells, flavors, sights! I loved learning how to cook, and entertaining was suddenly delightful!
Now that I have 4, I have no time, but I like to venture out every now and then. Sometimes, my kids will eat new things, sometimes not... -

Re: Food?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 10:04 AMI was blessed with a daughter that will eat exotic food from around the world. Now my son, if they do not sell cheeseburgers or pizza, forget it! -

Re: Food?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 10:37 AMI'm sooo picky when it comes to food... I hope my taste buds will grow when I get pregnant some day!! I envy people with a adventurous palet.. My guy is like that... he can eat anything!
I'm always willing to try new things.. I just don't usually like it! lol -

Re: Food?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 10:55 AMI like to try new food but then at restaurants where there's something I like, I'll almost always get that one thing every time forever!! Of course I don't like to try new food if it's worms or duck fetuses or stuff like they eat on Survivor. Even super hungry, I just can't see me getting that stuff down. -

Re: Food?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 11:01 AMhaha Lily, I can't even WATCH that without feeling like I'm going to vomit. Truely an act of mind over matter.. which I don't have when it comes to unidentifiable food!!

Re: Food?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 12:24 PMRight now it's all mac and cheese and casseroles that I can get together quick. I would love to have time to cook nice meals and learn about new things, but I just don't have time. -

Re: Food?

Re: Food?

Re: Food?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 12:35 PMI was raised on all junk food and have been pretty picky - til lately - as I am trying to eat healthier and that requires eating lots of veggies and colorful foods! I am learning I like unusual spices and Chinese was like a 'gateway' to other foods. I am loving all the curried and Indian style foods lately. I eat hummus. I eat sunbutter. All of this is needed cuz I ate so much bad stuff .. all my life.. The other day I tried eating a snoball and got sick! I can't eat processed, chemical food anymore. My body rejects it now cuz it knows what good food is. I love milk, butter, cheese, but in moderation. I love chocolate = dark. Mmmmmm.. Ice cream. Okay -so - we all have issues.. -

Re: Food?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 12:38 PMI was a stay home mom until my husband got ill, now he is the stay home parent and I am a short ofer cook when I get home to make dinner. If I can not have dinner done in 20min forget it! But it is all healthy... -

Re: Food?
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 12:54 PMWell, the crockpot comes in handy... take it from me, a single mom of 4!
A few weeks ago, I made "Chicken Morracan Stew on couscous". The kids LOVED it, I was very surprised. But, the point is, I'm trying to venture out, in a way they'll enjoy.... sometimes, I win, sometimes, I lose! -

Re: Food?
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 3:46 PMah moms cooking brings back memories. good ole new england cooking, with those two exotic spices, salt and pepper. though she never burned anything and her pot roast, mac n cheese, meatloaf, all to die for. do any of you remember those boxes of chef boy-ar-dee pizza mix? the flour & yeast you mix up, try to spread it around the baking sheet while peeling it of your fingers, then top with bland sauce & grated cheese? well, my mom was inventive with this new-fangled thing, pizza, and topped it with juicy slices of spam with a side of canned spinach, the juice running into the side of the crust. no kidding. spam. this wasnt a one-time deal it was one of the staples. spinach and all. -

Re: Food?
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 3:47 PMyour mom sounds gret y-rnth. My mom invented pickle spagetti!? ack!
-
Re: Food?
Tue, May 6, 2008 - 4:44 PMYup, my mom's food came almost entirely out of cans. Outside of the meat parts. For holidays she'd make some good stuff though, from long-cherished traditional recipes. No way would she ever do this anymore, too much work! I think I never really was into food until I discovered Schezuan food--then I went international in a big way and never looked back. -

Re: Food?
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 7:51 AMMy parents grew up on farms so they ate and cooked hearty farm working food; meat and potatoes and bread. My mom did make a lot of casseroles too.
Food for me is to be enjoyed. Sometimes it is just something to make my stomach quit growling but mostly it is something to be savored and enjoyed. Thusly why I am always the last one to finish at dinner. My hubby does most of the cooking. Which is great! He is very adventurous and quite a good cook too. I, on the other hand, bake. I love baking. Not just for myself but to share. I am in charge of snack at work next week and I am so excited! I haven't decided what to make yet. =) -

Re: Food?
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 8:06 AMMy grandparents were kids of ranchers. when I was living with them and going to college, breakfast went like this:
a grapefruit would greet you with a small glass of o.j. Then you would get oatmeal or cream mixed with malt-o-meal sided with a huge glass of milk. Then you would get a poached egg with fried potatoes and bacon, and last pancakes..........ugh!
GRANDPA! I'M GOING TO A BIOLOGY CLASS, NOT GOING TO FIX THE FENCE ON THE WEST 40! -

Re: Food?
Wed, May 7, 2008 - 9:17 AMSounds about right. My grandparents always cooked enough for an army and would continue to fill your plate as long as there was left overs. When my grandma would cut the pie she would cut as many slices as people. So if there were the 3 of us it was 1/3 of a pie each. I miss that great lady.

Re: Food?
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 9:05 AMI tend to live to eat although I'm learning that there are inner reasons for that.
I will also say that when I eat to live, I feel better physicaly and mentally.
