The basic premise of all cultures, religions and groups throughout history, has been 'do unto others, as you would have others do unto you'.
Freedom of speech and an open society may not be an American idea, but the reason the U.S. is so determined to defend that right around the world, is that freedom of speech with no boundary of civil rights, is more dangerous than a real weapon.
To ruin someone's character is a living death.
To argue is a gift, which makes all parties grow and become closer, and often both sides are right.
The checks and balances of a Western style civilization to me, is a compliment to the Eastern way of tradition and truly shows there are no exceptional people, only exceptional titles...
