Wow! There are others like me!

I have GI symptoms and migraines with my onion and lily allergy. I also break out on my thighs with little painful pustules. My symptoms last from 2-4 days. I check all labels at the grocery and ask at every restaurant about onion content. I have a favorite Mexican restaurant that will prepare onion free dishes with a 24 hour notice.
I am fortunate enough to know a nurse who is also allergic to onions. She has been a great help to me. Her brother is also allergic to onions. I thought that we were the three weird musketeers. It is nice to know that we are not the only ones.
I grew up in a family that believed that if 1 onion was good--2 was better. My body tolerated onions until about 4 years ago. Then I began to have terrible GI symptoms. The doctor said that I had probably been allergic all my life.
I cannot eat any onions, leeks or shallots. I can handle chives but only in very small quantities. I also watch for onion powder in recipes.
I have a strong reaction to the smell of onions and have trouble when my husband eats them and the smell is on his breath.
Does anyone else break out with the little pustules?

This is a miracle! Just this evening I went to a friend from church who is an herbalist trained in reflexology. He told me there's nothing wrong with my body except there are lots of foods I should stay away from. The one that disappointed and surprised me the most was a strong intolerance to onions. I LOVE onions. I LOVE to cook with onions. My husband LOVES onions. My husband and I chatted and he encouraged me to stay away from them and see if I feel better. Then a few minutes later I got online to see if anyone else has the same problem. And I found all of you!!! I am so happy because I have been praying for a long time about my daily discomfort: nausea, headaches, teeth hurt, burning in stomach, bloating, cramping, tiredness...All of which must be related to so many onions in my diet!!! Yes, I have read through almost every posting in this group...I appreciate all of you sharing your stories. I'm so anxious to feel better. Unfortunately, my friend/herbalist gave me a list of other things to stay away from 100%, but most of those items I don't eat as often as onions. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be reporting that I feel great!
