Shocked at who went home tonight, and even more so that "Ghetta Life" actially made the top 3! Well, I guess I can't be that surprised...after all, America likes to see movies like "Little Man" and "RV"...

Hey! Me too! Though I think it's funny that you renamed "Ghetta Rhoom" to "Ghetta Life!" which is more like it!

I am a bit surprised by who went home too, but more importantly, I'm happy with who stayed! All of my faves are still in the game, so I'm excited to see what comes next!

    :)

Let's see...two female directors and one male went home...

Claudia La Bianca (directed blind date flick)

Carolina Zorilla de San Martin (directed birth comedy)

Phil Hawkins (directed 911 "horror" flick)

I have to say in all honesty that I think those 3 were good choices to go........mainly because these films have already been done and in fact, over done. I did like 911 - but I've seen it before.
I'm gonna keep watching because I think this is the best thing on tv that is about the pure love of film and I think it is good for my son to see who wants to be a director some day - he can see how stiff the competition is........and how many people are out there making really good film.

The market for doing anything substantial in the "Biz" is so tough. In college, I majored in Radio/TV Production with a minor in creative writing...graduated at the top of my class with my professor saying she "anticipated great things from me". I went back to NYC and was literally drowning in the competeiion. I wanted to direct and write, but I ended up in casting and talent management before bagging the whole thing and going into speech pathology. Obviously my love for the industry is still very much alive and well, but it's as a viewer and not in production :O( C'est la vie!

Steph, we go through many rounds of experience with the things we love~

Sometimes we get the hobby and the career backwards. I majored in neuroscience in college! I was supposed to be a researcher or something like that! Well, guess what? I spent 1 year post college working in a lab, and HATING IT!!!! I cannot even describe the level of disdain I held for the daily ritual of putting on a white coat, gloves, mask and working with so many nasty toxic things. One year was ENOUGH!

I've been painting since I was 3 years old. And fairly good at it. But in a New York family, if you're good at science, you do science. Science is the career and art is the hobby, right?

                Wrong.

When I was 26 I remembered painting. I started painting in ways I'd never thought possible before...truly discovering new colors, textures and ways of expression...

And then I thought: Why is science the career and art the hobby? I still love going on nature walks and looking at stars and bugs and learning how things work. Science is my passion, and I love it as my hobby.

But, people respond to my art and wanna buy it! Wow! What a gift! This is my career.

Anyway, I know this has nothing to do with "On the Lot," but it seemed to relate to your experience. And the bottom line is: sometimes we map out this path for ourselves and for whatever reason, things don't go that way. But there's usually something else that works out without us feeling like we're destroying ourselves. Something that just works...and rather than beating our head against the wall trying to make the thing that is not working work, we just have to smile and acknowledge the thing that is~

                :)

As my father used to say: "You don't pick the job...the job picks you."

I think what is interesting about both your comments as it relates to On the Lot is I wonder what these people are going to be in 10-20 years. I lived in LA for awhile and met some very talented people most of whom went on to "regular" professions to pay the bills. The odds are not in their favor to be a success like a big name of Speilberg or anyone else who has even made one successful movie. The industry is highly competitive and fickle and unpredictable.......it will be fun to watch.

On the flip side...many of them were already working other jobs and left those jobs to pursue film...

And I do think that those who make it to the top 10 or so will have great opportunities ahead in the film industry, maybe not all as directors, but some as fx compositors, editors, dp's, screenwriters, or storyboard artists~

                      TV exposure is huge!

                      :)
