<div>Just wanted to let everyone know that I resigned as Director of Oojam Tribal Bellydance. It was a very difficult decision for me, but one I felt was necessary. It came at a bad time, but sometimes these things just happen that way. While at Vegas Faire, I was so sick I ended up at the hospital immediately after leaving with all our items. I have severe bronchitis bordering on Pneumonia. It was this and my kids that helped me to make this very hard decision. After seriously looking at things, I realized it had been some time since I actually enjoyed myself and wasn't constantly stressed out. My kids hated the tribe and the fact that I never had time for them as I felt it my duty to be sure the rest of the tribe was cared for and many times my kids were left to their own vices. What a bad parent was I. I realized I was too sick to really have been in Vegas and asked myself the question "why am I here, and what am I going to gain from it". the answers I came up with are what ultimately pushed me to resign. <br/> <br/>Some think it was because of them. I can't honestly say it wasn't , but they were NOT the deciding factor. they just chipped away at what was left of my confidence and desire to continue. I know the tribe will survive just fine without me. I have laid a path for them to take and I am certain they will do a great job. <div>We had a blast at the California Renaissance Fair on Saturday. Some of us members went out and did a few shows at the new faire. The site was well put together, and the stages were well sized and beautifully decorated. Everyone was energetic and the over all feel of the faire was warm and inviting. We had a small audience with the Queen (Played by Laura Willis) and we even got to do some warming up next to the Egyptian Mystic who was also extremely nice and welcoming. <br/> <br/>Laura M. (the owner) greeted us when we arrived very warmly . She was excited to see us there, and was up front and center at our very first show! We had the priviledge of sharing the stages with great acts like Marlowe's Shadow and Sound &amp; Fury. <br/> <br/>This lovely little fair has a lot of potential and is in a beautiful location. <div>I feel it necessary to clarify a misunderstanding. Oojam contacted me to perform at Cal Ren Faire and I was thrilled. Unfortunately it was late in the game and the performer buget was spent. All I had to offer was good show times and to pass the hat. I offered encampement areas backstage. I used to belly dance myself and I play the harp. One of the reasons I stopped doing southern faire was because there wasn't anywhere to put my harp. So I am sympathetic to their needs. Mahjani agreed and we were set. Oojam came out to the site to rehearse before anyone else was invited to do so. Then I heard from my entertainment director that Oojam was no longer interested in performing. So we started looking for another group. The Dancing Belly auditioned and it went well. They are very nice, costumes good, lots of talent , we were all happy. I even got up on stage and danced with them for a while. <br/>Then I receive a message from Oojam via Chelsea that they want to come and can I give them free camping to offset their costs and I said sure just get me a list of names. ( Anyone who camps I have to pay the insurance company for them being there. I do get audited and charged per person. ) <br/>Two days before opening I received this e-mail <br/>"We regret to inform you that The Dancing Belly will not be able to attend and perform at the Ortega Ren Fair due to an ordeal beyond our control. It sadens us and we are very sorry to have to decline the invite. Thank you very much and hope we can do this for real next year with more time planning and better odds. <br/> <br/>Sincerely, <br/>Nika and The Dancing Belly <br/> <br/>They had told me at auditions of some of their complications and I understand things happen. You have to take care of family first. <br/> <br/>As for Oojam still being listed on the web site. I just was so busy I didn't get to it. We are a Mom and Pop company. My family does most of the work ourselves. We don't hire alot of outside help. That is our philosophy of how to get a faire off the ground and stay in business. <br/> <br/>So, I look on tribe and I see all this bad press for me and my fair and I was shocked. I don't know how much more obviously welcoming I can be. <div>K, so Fourth of July is coming up, and I gots the details on the parade in Claremont. <br/>We're meeting at the Claremont Forum between noon and 1 p.m. to decorate the float. The Forum is located at 111 S. College. At 2:30 p.m., we'll be moving the float to its parade position, and we all have to be on the float and ready to go at 3:30. The parade starts at 4 p.m., and it take about half an hour or so to go all the way down the parade route. The parade ends at Larkin Park, on the corner of Mountain and Harrison. There's a junior high school, called El Roble, across the street, and we'll need a couple volunteers to park their cars in the junior high parking lot, so we can tote people back to the Forum. Anyone who's willing to do so will be greatly appreciated. We'll all head back to the Forum to help tear down the float, and afterwards there will be a potluck between 5 and 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to hang out and bring something to share, but don't feel obligated to bring something if you don't have the funds or resources to. <br/> <br/>As for what to bring, if you're going to be drumming or doing any sitting during the parade, feel free to bring your own cushions to make the ride a little more comfortable. Be sure to bring water and sunscreen, as it gets super hot out there. Also, dancers can dress any style they want, but are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue, or variations of those colors. Burgundy, navy, turquoise, cream, or any variations on the colors are fine. Drummers should wear Hawaiian shirts, perferrably in patriotic colors as well, but if you don't have an appropriate shirt, there will be a few ready to loan out as well. <div>Hi all, while we are preparing for our next new adventure, I thought I'd share a little info on the spider logo Hamzah and I wear on our cheeks. The reason I chose it is because to me spiders have always been a symbol of protection and is how our story plays as far as the fact that my father Mahmood put them there that we will have strength and protection. <br/> <br/>Last night while learning more about Islam, I came across a story that supports this. When the prophet Muhamed was being pursued by his enemies he went into a cave to rest and as he slept Allah sent a spider down to make a web across the caves entrance so when his pursurers approached this cave to see if Muhamed was hiding inside, they saw the web and said " He must not be in there, the webbing has not been disturbed" and they moved on and continued thier search. <br/> <br/>I found this story to be very comforting and fitting. As the symbol of the spider has thusfar been the OOjam logo, as it's on all the business cards, proposals and anything else I have sent out I found it most fitting of all. However, it has been brought to my attention that maybe the tribe should vote on the logo as it's "our tribe" so please come with your ideas to the first meeting on July 8 and we will take a vote. As I had not heard back by Monday I had removed it from my schedule and cancelled my sub and sitter for the night. therefore, I will not be attending. <br/> <br/>The coordinator, Sean, called me finally tonight at 7pm and I tried to contact everyone by phone. I explained that it was very last minute and I could not guarantee anything, but thought I'd put it out there for those of you who were still planning to go. <br/> <br/>The dinner starts at 6:30 and entertainment begins at 7:30. It is a paying gig, and I aske that 10% go into the "Oojam fund" and the rest can be evenly split up among those of you that will be attending. <br/> <br/>The dinner is at the LA Harbor Masonic Lodge located at 1640 W. 9th St., San Pedro, CA 90732. Should you have questions you can contact Sean at 310-850-4294 (cell ) or 310-833-0408 (hm). <br/> <br/>I have to contact him by 11pm tonight to let him know if I was able to get anyone that was available. A friend of mine got Azir (is that his name?) to pull me on stage at the last show. I was a little embarrased but i had fun. They would like us to be there around noon and plan to stay for many hours. They would like us all to bring costume changes for more screen time and there will be food and water provided.
