corene
a sheltered activist
raging against a world she doesn’t even know
picking a fight that would not have picked her otherwise
fighting for respect she hasn’t earned
and angry at anyone who seems satisfied with the way things are
a liberal catchphrase
provocative posters
go to the right rallies and marches and events
believing in causes she doesn’t understand
supporting whatever seems best at the time
and neglecting the rest with the best of intentions
try to talk to her
try to reach the woman inside
listen for anything real
but know that she can’t hear you
unless you are repeating the party line
unless you can be as disillusioned and bitter as she pretends to be

it had to be said
Tue, November 29, 2005 - 9:24 PMi know this person... you've captured it well. I mean her. It goes for many kinds of people, quick to categorize and stereotype. They can have the best of intentions, but still not be appealling overall as a person. I will say no more since she has given me several rides to the airport... (I will try harder to make the train on time.) i wish you didn't have to live with her/them.
It's one of life's sad ironies that the lobbies for causes that I think are just, working toward better treatment of people... but doesn't treat those very well that live under the same roof.
Does anybody else know any corenes?

upon further reflection.
Mon, January 9, 2006 - 3:57 PMthe conversation i had with her makes me angrier, now that I see it from a a different perspective-- totally dodged the issue, or rather reframed it in her own mind. I wish I had done a better job of sticking up for you.
