I believe the boys at Rythm Shack drum makers will have what you need, or they can build you one. They're the best and they're in the family.

It is always a gamble buying on-line but I am very happy with these guys: www.afrodesign.com/

You can listen to each drum on-line and they sell for a fraction of the price you'd pay at a brick and mortar. It is my experience that they sell top quality African hand made drums.

The Crystal Wizard which is near Lincoln City has an EXCELLENT SOUNDING selection (although not a large selection) of choice drums. There is also a place here on NE Broadway by the LLoyd center, shit if I can remember it but if you want I can find out the name.

Thanks for all of your help guys. I am not so much worried about price, But I do want quality, and if there were any peoplw within our little community that made them *cough, cough* I would rather be a patron towards them.

Okay, I'd seen African Rhythym Traders on Broadway in Portland a couple weeks ago and checked out their web-site: www.rhythmtraders.com/art/index.html
I had to go visit (had some birthday cash burning a hole). They do indeed have an excellent selection, knowledgable staff, classes, repair, books, DVDs, VHSs and CDs and a huge amount of accessories. I bought a "weather proof" doumbec, hammered copper body sweetheart that sang to me.

They have excellent djembes in abundance but I would say their prices are about twice what you'd pay on www.afrodesign.com/ on-line. If I was based in Portland and not connected to a knowlegeable drum circle like Clan Dragonwolf, I would probably give them serious consideration due to the support offered.

As it is, and based on my excellent experience with Afrodesign Studios, I'd not hesitiate to buy from Afrodesign again. You can listen to each drum on-line at their site. Prices there range from $129 to $159 for the full size 14" group of djembes (they have a couple of special drums at higher prices) and from $79 for smaller 9" djembes. These are all hand carved from a single piece of African hardwood by experienced African carvers.
