This previous message was posted as a loving message to get word out about something that I stumbled upon and found to be a great source of hope. It hurts to imagine that such a movement of healing and love as this would be labeled as SPAM. Although I can understand the confusion, I am reposting with message included, no links, so I am sure that all those who want to receive the message can.
This information has been copied off of a website from Shalomar Productions. com;

Worldwide Prophecy of Love Day

And the Angel said:
"The day of the fulfillment of the prophecy given long ago draws nigh. We would ask you to be the messenger for this day which shall be called the Prophecy of Love day, in your time and calendar July 13th 2008.
We would ask that for 24 hours on this your day of July 13th, 2008, that people all over your planet would commune at all of the Sacred places upon beloved Gaia and allow the energies of unconditional love to flood every cell, every fiber, and every molecule of their Beings. We will be focusing our collective energies upon each of you as you do this. The frequency of Love that you will feel in your bodies will be more than you have ever felt before because of this collective focus. If you would do this you will literally become Lightning Rods of Love.
We ask you to hold this energy and not to project it outward. After 24 hours of receiving and Being unconditional love it will become apparent to you that, indeed without projecting, your outer world will have already changed.
If 1 million or more of you will answer this call then all of the other prophecies of destruction and doom will be shifted. For it is Love that will bring balance and harmony to your world.
Focus not upon what you think is wrong in your world rather focus on the Kingdom of Heaven manifested now within the hearts of all creatures and upon Terra and it will be so.”

The vision for this conference is this: There are so many prophecies out there of doomsday and cataclysms, with floods, earthquakes, plagues and war, that it makes one feel that everything is hopeless. That is certainly one time line for the future. But I have had dreams and visions of a different future, a future based upon love and brother- & sisterhood where this Earth becomes the beautiful garden and radiant star that it is destined to become.
Thus, I am now guided to co-create this conference to counterbalance all of the fear-based prophecies running amok throughout the unconsciousness of so many people, and anchor into the morphogenic field this new dream, this new vision based upon the prophecy of love.
Where will you be July 13th, 2008?
Will you be one of the millions who will help make a difference in the Destiny of Terra?

For more extensive information and to get info regarding a July 13 conference upon Mt Shasta, you can visit shalomarproductions.com. For all those who wish to participate privately in your own sacred palce and in hopes of bettering our world, thank you.

Going to the Gathering?
NOT going to the Gathering?
Want to plug-in in a vital way?
Be a part of the Rainbow Press Crew!

Rainbow needs a Press Crew to balance the information handed out to the media by the Law Enforcement Officers ("leos"), to tell our side of the story.

What can you do? Be a small part of our big crew!

Here's how it's going to work:

1. Assorted folks "on the land" will write up a daily summary of the day's events, legal issues, fun stuff, etc.

2. That summary is dropped of at a specific vehicle where someone will type it out, and print out 7 paper copies.

3. Meanwhile, Info will help direct volunteers to head out to the Parking Lot after dinner, stop by the vehicle, and pick up the paper copies.

4. Those seven copies will be brought to the road and divvied into 7 different cars already leaving the Gathering with instructions to call a number as soon as possible and read the summary into a voice mail box. Hopefully, at least 3 copies will be called in, in a timely fashion each day!

5. A person (not attending the Gathering) at the voice mailbox will transcribe the summary into a concise press release and email it out to 100 media outlets.

6. 20 different folks (also not attending the Gathering) will follow-up by calling 5 media outlets each. This is the professional way to send out press releases; the press expects this and it is a sure way to be taken seriously. The callers will ask if they can answer any questions (making it clear that they can't speak for Rainbow) and stress that the most accurate story is at the Gathering. This will take about a half hour a day.

7. Directions to the site will be included in every release. When the press arrives, they'll be directed to a Media Check-In Area and check in. Tours will be available to escort them thru the camp at 12 pm daily.

Voila! Fair and Balanced Media!

So far, thanks to the help of many, videos, quotes and info has been collected for the press, a list of well over 100 media outlets and press emails from regional, national and international areas has been built, both mainstream and alternative, a phone line has been set up, a printer and printer drivers are at the Gathering, reports have been leaving the Gathering and two press releases have already gone out!

We also have 12 kind and loving brothers and sisters lined up to do different jobs in this chain, but still have quite a few spaces to fill. Three of the 12 are off-site "press release follow-up phone callers." The remainder of volunteers will be attending the Gathering. Many of the jobs will be done by more than one person to prevent burnout. PLEASE consider helping out with this awesome project!

What job openings are still available?

* 17 folks not attending the Gathering to be off-site press release follow-up phone callers, to total 20; now that's a crew! To get yesterday's news out today, callers need to make the calls early to meet the press's news-acceptance deadline of 1pm. That's 12pm PT, 1pm MT, 2pm CT and 3pm ET.
* Detail oriented, accurate summary writers on the land with legible handwriting and decent grammar
* Typists and Printer-outers of 7 copies a day
* Assorted people to take turns finding responsible drivers/callers on the road heading out
* Printer vehicle security
* Diligent yet entertaining Rainbow Tour Guides with RADIOS to STAY WITH the MEDIA throughout their visit in case they (the media) need to be dispatched to an incident. Periodic and loud announcements of camera presence is needed so folks are always aware. And give 'em a great tour!
Rainbow Press Crew FAQs:

**********************************
Why do we need a Rainbow Press Crew?

It's hoped that peaceful, safe Rainbow Gatherings will exist again. However, two gatherers were tasered at the '07 Arkansas Annual Gathering. Two months after that Gathering, the Forest Service (FS) purchased 700 tasers.

http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/provider/providerarticle.aspx?feed=AP&Date=20070919&ID=7496520

They've informed the Family that their leos are trained to use these "less-lethal" weapons http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/15/nyregion/15taser.html and will be outfitted with them at this year's Gathering. FS guideline documents have even been updated to include the protocol for taser use.

http://www.fs.fed.us/im/directives/fsm/5300/5380.doc
http://www.fs.fed.us/im/directives/fsh/5309.11/5309.11_50.doc

This year's Annual Gathering is being held in Wyoming; the #1 least populated state in America, where accountability will be most unlikely. If a tree falls in the woods and no one saw it fall, did it ever even fall?

If, God forbid, an incident does happen, we need the press to see it. But a main reason for getting mainstream press, namely cameras, into the Gathering, is to keep the leos on their best behavior and deter them from committing any more acts of violence against us folks whose purpose in gathering is to pray for peace.

************************************

Won't our own cameras be enough?

No. It would be great if that were true. The more civilian cameras coming out only to capture Law Enforcement Officer ("leo") violence the better. By all means; should an incident occur, please put calls out on Rainbow radios for all cameras to head to the incident. This way even Rainbow Tour Guides hear the call and can bring mainstream cameras to the scene immediately.

But know the risks if you decide to approach a violent leo attack and get it on film. Your camera can be taken right from your hands, without sufficient warning, and you can be arrested.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_1PH7KakcY&NR=1

Then you and your footage are in custody. Often leos will keep cameras, footage, bicycles, etc. for months after your release, as was the case in the Ocala inident. And/or you could be injured, or worse.

We've placed several calls and emails to Wyoming authorities to confirm how far a civilian must be from an leo and still be allowed to film. So far we've received no response. We'll keep trying. This may be a good time to remind everyone to always film the filmers.
Instances in which police attempt to snatch TV news cameras are rare. When civilian cameras capture valuable footage, even if it makes it onto Indymedia or YouTube, it's considered "amateur" footage and rarely results in any accountability.

Sometimes in Rainbow, if the footage is found, it doesn't get used. At the '05 West Virginia Annual Gathering, a gatherer videotaped an leo sneaking up on and macing a dog who was tied to a van. The leo was never found liable.

*******************************

What could be the long-term effects of this increase in harassment?

Police harassment has been known to completely squelch events. For example, the monthly New York City Critical Mass Bike Ride is currently down in numbers from thousands to dozens. The evident increase in leo harassment towards Rainbow is succeeding in decreasing our numbers as well. Each of us Rainbow gatherers know of really peaceful folks who've gradually stopped attending because of the rise in law enforcement, and the agro vibe that often comes with it.

Even High Times Magazine's Steve Hager agreed back in 2001, when he wrote in the July issue in reference to the government's intensified campaign against the Rainbows, "If the spirit of Woodstock is going to be passed down to a new generation, the Rainbow Family must find a way to protect and defend itself."

The FS has really stepped it up since then; especially by outfitting themselves with these deadly weapons to police a peaceful event that has policed itself successfully for over 35 years.

It is essential for the future numbers of our Family that measures be put into place, now, to provide for a safe, comfortable and truly peaceful Gathering. It's hoped that these measures will be carried forth and implemented at every Gathering so that soon our old friends will feel comfortable returning Home.

****************************************

I don't want to put myself out there.

Everything being done and requested is legal. Taking a pro-active stance towards protecting our brothers and sisters may be frowned upon by some in babylon. And yes, even though what we're doing is entirely within the scope of the law, it may be frowned upon possibly to the point in which our actions may be watched. But really, who cares what they think? You're going to let their thoughts control your actions, to the point of inaction? As far as being in the 'scope' of some monitoring system, "If you don't have a file on you, you're not doing something right!" -Stevie S.

Maybe i'll plug in to Rainbow Press Crew a bit, if I see it work. A machine must have cogs for it to work. So there's that leap of faith thing again. And, "be the change you wish to see in the world." -Gandhi.

*******************************

How often will press releases go out?

The goal is for short updates to go out every day, please. The FS sends out press briefings on a regular basis throughout the duration of our stay in the woods, reporting how many tickets they've given out and for what, etc. It would be smart for us to do the same. Remember, the FS is now carrying tasers, this is serious. The call heard in the woods can be "Zap Up" or something now, since the FS is much more likely to taser folks with these "non-lethal" weapons rather than shoot them with guns. Really, why did they buy both the tasers and the training to use them, with such a low budget due to last year's fire season, if they don't intend to use them on us? http://www.docuticker.com/?p=18223 They're not going to use them on lions and bears; they have tranquilizer guns for that.

***************************

Aren't tasers non-lethal?

No. The "non-lethal" status of these weapons becomes a "less-lethal" status when someone with a pre-existing medical condition gets tased. Here are the types of tasers the FS has, the kind they specifically requested.
http://www.peer.org/docs/fs/07_4_12_taser_justification.pdf

Not the old stun gun type, but the kind that shoots wires up to 35 feet out, which have projectiles on the ends capable of piercing through one inch of clothing.

And agencies themselves are ever increasingly replacing the term "non-lethal" with the term "less-lethal" when referring to these lethal weapons, as noted in the New York Times, June 15, 2008. The article continued, "Also on Wednesday, Amnesty International said it had tracked more than 300 cases since 2001 in which people died after being shocked by a Taser."

******************************

But they say they're going to be nice this year.

I cannot even begin to count the times I've heard that before. Please, just look at the history of the FS's relations pre-, mid- and post-gathering. It's evident that they are notorious for saying one thing before the gathering, doing another thing during the gathering, and then raving about how well we cleaned up in the end.

********************************

Is this idea all talk? Who's FireFly?

A part-time mover and shaker. At the '06 Colorado Annual Gathering, hundreds of gatherers were ticketed, had to leave the Gathering to go to a makeshift court, and wait outside all day with no food or water (the spigot was shut off) until their names were called. This went on every day. I was able to help by establishing and implementing a system within the gathering of preparing and delivering 'food for court' on a daily basis, and our ticketed, satellite, off-site Family was fed. Dozens of folks plugged in to make it work, you know who you are, THANK YOU! And THANK YOU in advance to all who remember to carry on sharing food with our not inevitably ticketed, extended, off-site Family who hopefully won't have to spend any time away from Home at some kangaroo court.
the gathering is a warm one, though it is starting slower than expected. there were about 200 there (by my estimation) when i left on saturday. the gathering is in need of more seasoned family members. i am guessing that almost half of the people there are attending their first gathering. there were less than a dozen elders. the big kitchens were not yet there, leaving a need for some things like carts, 5 gallon water containers, and other basics. other things are slipping through the cracks, like bleach-water at the kitchens and latrines.

i hope that more of the right kind of people will be rolling in to carry the traditions. the family is sitting on a golden opportunity to have a great success story. after the '97 nationals at ochoco national forest, the local forest service administration have been welcoming the family. we now have an opportunity of gathering their twice a year, and i think we will be seeing a spring and fall gathering there in the future. i heard one story of someone actually getting directions from a friendly ranger of how to find the gathering. ahhahahahahaha. i also heard that the local forest service administration told the WDC office that they did not want their help or presence here for the gathering. that's huge. think about it. local feds telling national feds to back off!

i encourage anyone going to take along extra water bottles to donate to the kitchens. they have spring water a short walk away. people have been drinking the water for over a week now and it seems to be very kind water. CALM could use some supplies too if you have something to donate there.

From the shadows! :

Hey family!!

They told me that there was a need to clarify directions to the site for those of you who were not at the Oregon National in 97.

The first important direction is the fork in the road where you can go left to john day or Right to Walton lake... Take the right to Walton lake!!! there will be two more signs to Walton lake one at 9 miles where you make a left and another 7 miles further where you take another left. Continue straight on RD 22 until you hit RD 150. There should be markers as of this morning if you know what to look for so pay attention to the rocks. RD 150 will bear right onto RD 2630. Follow this past a sign that says road ends and past ochoco campground for about another mile or two and you will be at front gate. WELCOME HOME!!!

There are already kids in the woods and she told me she had talked to people from other countries that were already on their way as they were at the 97 and will be glad to be home in the ochoco again!

I am also supposed to pass on that there is a local airport and greyhound/ amtrak drop off on Hwy 26 in prineville so that people can get home and anyone passing these places on the way in should check for family going home. Seed camp is in full swing as the gathering begins in two days so hurry home and we will see you there!!

WE LOVE YOU!!

Date & Time:	Tuesday, September 11, 2007 - Sunday, September 23, 2007 1:00 AM

Howdy Folks,

Welcome Home to the Oregon gathering in the Ochoco National Forest from September 11, 2007 until September 23, 2007. Seed camp begins September 6, 2007.
For more information, contact:
groups.yahoo.com/group/mountainspirit
or call 240-863-6250 or email mountainspirit@yahoogroups.com.

Where the Ochoco Gathering in Oregon will Be.

The 2007 Rainbow Gathering is in Ochoco National Forest at a place called Indian Prarie in central Oregon. (between Prineville and Mitchell)

From Prineville:
Take hwy 26 east towards Mitchell. Make a right turn onto hwy 23,(this road is not marked, but is the next two lane paved road after the reservoir, a few miles out of town, to the right) which later turns into hwy 22 and continues to Walton Lake. Soon after the lake, turn left onto FS 150, a dirt road. Go a little ways till 150 ends in a T. Go right onto FS 2630, and continue to the parking lot and Bus Village.

From Mitchell:
Take hwy 26 west towards Prineville. A little ways past the Bandit Springs rest area, go left onto FS 2630. This later becomes FS 2210, and 2630 becomes a less maintained road. Follow FS 2210 to hwy 22. Turn left onto hwy 22 and follow past Walton Lake. Soon after the lake, turn left onto FS 150, a dirt road. Go a little ways till 150 ends in a T. Go right onto FS 2630, and continue to the parking lot and Bus Village.
More map details
This is right near the Bridge Creek Wilderness area, and north of the Big Summit Prarie. I can see several springs on the map. Sortof behind the site is the Mt. Pisgah Lookout. It looks to be no more than 6000-6500 feet in altitude.
For general information about the Rainbow Family and regional events, please first look around an unofficial family website- go to Welcome Home at
www.welcomehome.org or email rob@welcomehome.org
www.welcomehome.org/rainbow/index.html

What is a Rainbow Gathering?
Carla's Gathering Basics
What follows is my take on it. No one put me in charge (thank goodness), so you may get other answers from other folks that add or subtract stuff - but basically I think most folks will be in agreement with what I see as being the basics for a gathering.
It is free and non-commercial. This means no entry fee and no money charged for any service at the event (food, medical, etc.). There are people at gatherings who hang out with the barter circle and essentially have a commercial trip going either with trade or cash, but this is their own personal trip and has nothing to do with the actual set-up of a gathering. I personally consider these folks in violation of the basic spirit of the gathering and wish they would go away, or at least put away their trade goods. But since we have no cops, no courts, and no jails, they continue to do as they please, over the objections of many but also with the support also of many. Anyway, with the exception of these folks who are taking advantage of the free space, you shouldn't find any commercialism at a gathering whatsoever.
Rainbow gatherings are non-aligned both spiritually and politically. There is no one right religious or spiritual belief; people of all faiths are welcome to come gather. Often, people from specific churches or temples come set up their own camp and feed lots of folks from their kitchens (the Krishnas and the Bread of Life Christian camp being the most notable). There are no hassles towards any church group proselytizing or trying to win converts - if people want to listen, that's their own business.

Rainbow also does not support any specific political cause, party, issue, or candidate. Many people come to gatherings to recruit for their own specific Peace Walk, Drums around the Pentagon, environmental action, or whatever; but again, that is their own trip. They certainly have the right of free speech to spread the word about whatever event they are sponsoring. But they do nothave the right to call it a Rainbow event or claim they have support of the Rainbow Family. If they do make such claims, they are ripping off the Family name. Folks involved in such actions have every right to also mention, if asked, that yes, they consider themselves to be Rainbows. No reason not to fly your colors, especially when you're doing something you consider a good cause and are proud of being involved in. You just can't say that your event (protesting logging the rainforest, for example) is a Rainbow protest as such.

We have no leaders. We operate by consensus process. No one is in charge, we have no board of directors. For many regional events, a small circle of people often initiates the event, and the circle grows and becomes many. All the labor of getting the gathering together in a safe and healthy manner is done by volunteers.

The only rule we have is that of peaceful respect. That actually encompasses a lot, when you stop and think about it. Sure, no one can tell anyone else what to do, but if someone builds an unsafe fire under a tree, they will hear about it (hopefully in a sweet way) from many people who are worried about the safety of the camp. We like to say that everyone is Shanti Sena (Peacekeeper). The idea is to communicate in such a way that folks doing something non-peaceful, non-respectful, unhealthy, or unsafe will see the error of their ways and choose to get with the program. When something really out of line occurs (a violent individual hitting someone with a club, for example) a Shanti Sena council (consisting in the ideal of all interested parties, as well as some experienced folks from the Shanti Sena Clan to give guidance and physical safety) forms to deal with the issue. If the victim of the violence wishes to press charges, the incident is dealt with accordinly, and the Shanti Sena folks cooperate in turning the perpetrator over to local law enforcement - a controversial move, to be sure, but in some cases unavoidable and sometimes even desirable. If no one wants to see the local authorities involved but a person is considered a danger to the safety of folks in camp, two options are commonly turned to: someone capable of handling the situation volunteers to accompany the offending person 24 hours a day around camp; or the person must leave the gathering and not come back that year.

As per a standing consensus by the Rainbow Family Tribal Council, we don't apply for or sign permits. With the new group use regulations instituted by the Forest Service this year, this has become a difficult position to hold.One regional gathering signed a permit and gathered under a different name than Rainbow. Weird, and lot of people were angry at the folks who signed the permit,but what are ya gonna do? Take away their hippie cards? Anyway, theoretically,if a gathering has a permit, it is by definition not a Rainbow Gathering.
Also, by long tradition, we do not gather anywhere but public land. Occassionallythere may be focussed councils (Thanksgiving Council, regional councils) that happen on private land, but gatherings themselves are always held on public land. Again, if it happens otherwise, it is by definition not a Rainbow Gathering, though the event may be very rainbow in nature otherwise.

We take responsibility for every aspect of the gathering, from set-up to clean-up. We don't ask for help bulldozing roads, getting donations from local charities or food banks. We are self-sufficient in every aspect of our gathering, and responsible for ourselves. Most important, when the gathering is over, many people stay behind to totally clean up the site. No janitors are paid to clean up after folks. Gatherers are expected to use the recycling center set up on site and to pack out what they packed in. The clean up crew takes out all trash to recycling centers and to landfills, then restores and rehabilitates the site. This may involve scarifying the earth to loosen up compacted areas, filling in ruts caused by vehicles, water-barring hilly areas, and reseeding the ground. All shitters and camps are disappeared and naturalized. This is a lot of work folks! If you've never stayed for cleanup, you've never really done a gathering. This is not a dead lot - this is real, this is a labor of love, and it's one of the only reasons, both karmically and politically, that the powers that be haven't put the ax to us long ago.
A Rainbow Gathering is not a rock concert or a platform for speakers. If cars are allowed in the gathering area proper, and if there is amplified music as a central theme, it most certainly is NOT a Rainbow Gathering (the drive-in gathering in Texas was an exception, as we were not allowed to close the road).

If it were up to me to define it, I would say this is the most important aspect of the Gathering: It is a free assembly of individuals who come together to practice peace. The focal point of the Annual Gathering July 1-7 is a coming together in a large circle, each person praying silently in their own way for peace. Most of the regional gatherings also set aside a day for the Silent Circle. A Rainbow Gathering is not a party, although partying certainly happens. It is not just a big hippie campout, although there are lots of counter-culture and new-age types camping in the woods. It is not just the world's largest love-in/be-in/ smoke-in, although a lot of that certainly goes on. For me, without the element of prayer we might as well not gather at all. For me, without the element of the Circle in which we participate, we mights as well have a hippie convention at the Hilton. For me, without the practice of Peaceful Respect and continuing attempts to create harmonyamong each other and all beings of the Earth, me might as well give up any pretense that the human race is evolving.

So, does that make things more clear? You'll probably get as many different answers as you will people answering. Good luck sorting it all out. The annual Rainbow Gathering of the Tribes will take place in the Northwest next July - Oregon or Washington. Stay tuned for directions, which will probably come out about amonth before the gathering!
Love and Light,
Carla

This is Not an offical document of any kind by the Rainbow Family. This invitation is my own creation, and as such only represents my own ideas. In no way does this mean I or anyone else represents the Rainbow Family, regardless of what the Family wingnuts say.

Greetings, here is the Howdy folks update for this septembers Oregon gathering.. Please PLUG IN! :)

love and light evi -
Howdy Folks,

Just an update to let everyone know how it's going.

All ground work and pre-contact with the regional forest personnel
has been done.All arrangements for the site have been worked out with
the Forest Service. We started dialogue with the District Ranger and
the Forest Supervisor about three weeks ago.

Alternate sites were discussed and some scouting happened. Folks who
know this region, including Summer Breeze and Raven who have visited
there several times, decided that Indian Prairie is the site for this
gathering. In a phone conversation with District Ranger Art Currier
yesterday, Monday, August 20, 2007, a final decision was made to
reserve the Indian Prairie site from about September 3 till September
30, to allow for seed camp and clean up.

An operating plan outline is available for this site to be used by
folks who appear on the land. An operating plan is a "living
document" and must be worked out on the land, in circle, and with the
Forest Service District Ranger and resource folks. If you have
questions about an operating plan, post those questions here for all
to read.

Summer Breeze mailed a copy of the operating plan for the Ochoco,
Oregon '97 gathering to District Ranger Art Currier which he
acknowledged receipt of in yesterday's phone conversation. The land
has changed a little since '97 so obviously, some changes will need
to be made to accomodate the resource, health and safety needs of
this event in 2007. Again, a living document to be created by folks
assembled on the land. I will get into my files and post the Oregon
97 Operating Plan on this group. I believe it is available on
www.welcomehome.org.

It needs to be clearly understood that operating under the Forest
Service regulations, under an alternative manner using an operating
plan without a permit is under discussion. Contact has been made with
Officials in Washington D.C. who can give directive to Forest Service
personnel to operate in an alternative manner. However, let it be
made known that permission for this event at this time, has not been
granted. Negotiations are still in the works.

PERMITS.

A permit is a very controversial instrument with many legal
fallacies, frauds and pitfalls, as the application is currently
written in regards to any rainbow style event.

Raven and Summer Breeze prefer not to have a permit for this site.
Use discernment whether or not you will attend based on this. It has
been a long road for us negotiating the alternative manner, to
include our trip to DC in April where we met with Mark Rey and John
Twiss to discuss this topic. A directive was issued for the annual
gathering in Arkansas as a result of this meeting and subsequent and
prior requests/discussions that took place with many folks involved.

Thomas from Peace Park in DC attended this 4/20 meeting with us. His
website is www.prop1.org. Brian Michaels, a lawyer from Eugene,
participated in this meeting by telephone and phone conferences.
Conferences were set up and involved a host of various individuals
who opted to call in.

Volunteers are still needed to negotiate and appeal to Congress and
sub committees. Our efforts will continue into the future and will
include further trips to DC. Any one wishing to help or join with us,
Raven, Summer Breeze, SuzyQ and other folks at the Emerald Village
Tribe, please contact us by email.

KITCHENS: So far we have been promised the presence of three
kitchens. Once follow up calls are made this week and confirmation
received from these volunteer kitchens are made, we will post that
information here.

Meanwhile, we are calling all kitchens and folks who will volunteer
to assist current kitchens that plan to attend. Please post here or
contact Summer Breeze at angelonmyshoulder77@yahoo.com,
mountainspirit14@yahoo.com, or call 240-863-6250 to co-ordinate
efforts and supply lists.

WATER: There are several springs on site, with one confirmed flowing
and already tapped by the Forest Service. We have permission to use
this tap for the gathering and to run lines into the site from here.
Two other springs are known to exist on site. Some scouts have
verified that water is flowing. Raven and I and others will confirm
when we go to the site next week to do preliminary walking of the
site with the Forest Service.

Anyone who has water pipe, please bring it. Contact the board or
Summer Breeze so we know how much pipe is available. We will need a
volunteer who is responsible that can take the pipe to the next
regional or annual or to pass it on to another if excess pipe is
acquired.

FIRES: Currently, personal fires are restricted and all fires will
need a permit. Community and kitchen fires will be inspected by the
Ranger for approval according to agreement made with Art Currier. He
prefers propane, however, so bring Propane in case we have a fire ban.

PRAY FOR RAIN IN THE OCHOCOS. DO THE RAIN DANCING. WE WILL RAIN DANCE
OUR FIRST DAY ON SITE. BRING THE DRUMS. PRAY NOW FOR GENTLE RAIN IN
THE OCHOCOS.

We will post a supply wish list, and suggested supplies to bring.

Could someone take initiative to find all current rainbow raps and
post on this site? I can do it myself but I am extremely busy with
many facets of this gathering and my personal life.

SEED CAMP: It should start five to seven days before. All folks
intending to come to seed camp should wait for the directions to be
posted so an operating plan, a tentative one, can be worked out
immediately so we will not be in violation of the regs.

All folks coming to seed camp should be self sufficient, prepared to
use propane, feed themselves and to share with one or two others, and
be prepared to work to lay out the site and dig "latrines", flag off
and ribbon sensitive areas, put out rocks, make and post kind rainbow
signs.

Bring shoves, saws, twine, etc. for digging and please bring
environmentally friendly dish and body soap and toilet paper. Bring
trash bags.

HOLDING CAMP: any holding camps can start even now, but should be no
closer than twenty miles to the actual site and should be non-
invasive on the land. Keep it simple. Do not build structures. Do not
build large firepits or dig large holes. Use your tents, buses, motor
homes and clean up after your self immediately. Live and tread
lightly on the land and please do not bring the abuse of alcohol
scene or the abuse of drugs scene to this sacred gathering. Remember
Rule #1 is RESPECT.

No holding camp should ever go over 74 people or be prepared to split
up or be subject to a permit or eviction by the Forest Service.

MEMORIAL SERVICES-CELEBRATION OF THE LIVES OF OUR RAINBOW FAMILY
FOLKS WHO HAVE PASSED ON IN RECENT YEARS, OR SINCE THE BEGINNING IN
1972 IS THE FOCUS OF THIS GATHERING/EVENT/ASSEMBLY. ALSO, WE WILL BE
HONORING OUR ANCESTORS IN SACRED DANCE, MUSIC, STORIES, FOLK TALES,
TALKINGS, PRAYERS AND CEREMONIES.

BRING YOUR SACRED CEREMONIES.

BRING STORIES OF LOVED ONES TO HONOR AND REMEMBER.

MAKE BEAUTIFUL ART AND SIGNS AND SACRED OBJECTS TO PLACE UPON A
SACRED ALTER AT THE FIRE.

We look forward to a sacred assembly with our family.

We love you.
Please share this information far and wide. Invite international
family to join us in celebration of our ancestors who have helped to
bring us to this place and time.

peace be with you,
Summer Breeze

--

cheers!

As posted on several groups, Sailor's scouting report which sent to fs Mark Rey:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
April 15, 2007
Mr. Rey,
Two weeks before Thanksgiving 2006, I was asked by
Mr. J. Kline to travel 2000 miles from my home to
visit/scout/review sites in three states which the
U.S.FS are offering as potential encampment areas for
the Rainbow Family of Living Light annual July 1-7th
2007 Gathering.
Further, that this action was in accordance and
agreement to an email sent by you to Mr. B. Adams,
Oct. 30, 2006[1]. It was stated by Mr. Kline that by
doing this scouting, a “spirit of co-operation” would
be affirmed providing sufficient “evidence” of good
intent on the Family’s behalf for you to “seriously
consider appointing a resource or recreation forester
as incident commander”[2].
I am sad to see that my efforts, and those of two
good friends who joined me in this endeavor, were
wasted; it appears, no “spirit of co-operation” has
been established and another law enforcement officer
has been appointed to oversee this year’s gathering.
To be honest, when I met you briefly a few years ago
at the library in the Haight area of San Francisco, I
thought that perhaps you had gained some understanding
of the problems that accelerate the economic costs to
the U.S.FS in managing Rainbow Gatherings. That you
had gained knowledge of how the current permit system
being administrated, with no regard to “alternative
manner”, and subsequent law enforcement actions act to
inflate the budget beyond common reason and what you
personally could do to reduce cost.
Apparently I was wrong, so I offer to you two
suggestions that may still work to reduce the 2007
management cost to the U.S.FS.
First, help locate a site not on U.S.FS property by
full filling a request (via interagency contact)
initially made to Mr. G. Monk[3] for information and
maps of “all publicly owned lands” available for
recreation (inclusive of river and lake flood plain
areas) on Army Corps of Engineer and Department of
Interior Lands.
Second, act on your proposal to “reserve some of
these sites in advance”[4] and “work out details with
our resource staff in an operating plan”[5]as it
relates to McClellan Creek National Grasslands. A
property, which by my understanding, is not “owned” by
the U.S.FS but is “managed” by the U.S.FS. This site
should contain all the elements required for a large
scale encampment (Gathering site) if “in the spirit of
co-operation”, the requests sent to Mr. N. Wagoner,
Regional Forester, R-8 were/are honored. These
requests, sent via email, fax and phone message last
fall were: that about one-third of the dead wood from
the cottonwoods being felled (due to minor fire
damage) be left on the McClellan Creek National
Grasslands site for gathering usage, and that Lake
McClellan be allowed to fill to its maximum capacity
this spring.
Actual scouting for a useable site is scheduled to
begin April 21, as agreed by consensus at the
Thanksgiving Council, with a rendezvous of those
interested in offering suggestions and traveling to
check various areas meeting at Haley’s Ferry in the
Sabine N.F.
If “in the spirit of co-operation”, you decide to act
upon the interdepartmental request for information on
public lands available for recreation, especially Army
Corps of Engineer Lands, please have this information
directed to:
<snip>
The rest of this report is a critique of the six sites
proposed by the U.S.FS that were scouted/reviewed,
along with commentary regarding criteria used to
select sites. Skim over the material if you desire
and you’ve available time, but in reality, the rest is
more appropriately directed towards the U.S.FS field
personnel who might want to review/reassess their
offered potential site list and perhaps take another
look in their region/district based on the information
included on site criteria. So please pass it along
accordingly.
Regards,
Sailor
-------------------------------------
U.S.FS SUGGESTED POTENTIAL SITE REVIEW---
ARKANSAS :
CARTNEY ACCESS---
Using a DeLorme Gazetteer we located the single road
access to the proposed site. From the state highway we
dropped north toward the river on a one lane with
occasional turnout, steeply declined, gravel road. We
drove thru one creek which possibly would be dry in
July. At the second creek with its three foot
waterfall we turned around and left. Visit complete,
the access not being able to support gathering traffic
it was senseless to venture further.
We did, at the Uof T map room in Austin look at the
topo of the area and it did not appear that there was
much more than a small crescent shaped open beach area
at the end of the access road. Also, the White River
at this point is broad flowing and deceptively
dangerous.
PINEY CREEK---
We parked at the U.S.F.S. campground across the
paved road from the proposed site and walked in. A
confluence of steep ridges formed a narrow bottom in
which Piney Creek flowed. The “open” area was small
and contained dense clusters of blackberry bushes.
After estimating the amount of “campable” space which
would be lost by even a minimal set back, we
determined there simply wasn’t enough land available
with acceptable slope range for camping. Other
disqualifying factors were: The steep winding state
road that would present a dangerous traffic situation
if it had to be employed at any point for a
parking/shuttle situation. Also we found no active
springs either within the proposed site or at
elevations above it.
ROCK CREEK LAKE---
This is the only proposed site being considered for
a second look in the spring. It contains almost all
required elements, missing only adequate “open” area.
However due to time constraints we did not track to
source the in flowing water courses to validate spring
heads. Nor did we check for private property or
environmental, cultural or historical issues.
The three of us who checked this site agreed that a
short description of one possible usage scenario
should be included in this report[6] to, hopefully,
serve as a suggestive example/guide to any district or
regional forest service employee who might be charged
with reading this report, reassessing site
possibilities, and/or compiling a new “potential site
list”.
The approach to the lake is from Alpin via road 207.
The site is located between two east/west gravel
roads. The northern most road is a county road which
runs from state route 9 to state route 7. The
southern most road is forest road 858 that runs
approx. 3 miles and dead ends with an adequate turn
around. The lake is located between these two roads
being slightly closer to the county road. Between
fs858 and the lake(approx. 1 to 2 miles) there are two
sets of ridges running parallel to the road broken by
two sets of in- flow feeder creeks that supply the
lake. A majority of the camping and kitchens would
probably be developed on the rolling bottoms and glade
benches of these ridges. The southern forest service
road could also act as a supply and large kitchen drop
off access point.
Possible spring heads would be scouted for
development and filtration, as well as the source of
the creek coming off Link Mountain to the south. If no
spring source can be found in April/May that was known
locally to still be active in July, the site would not
be viable. Filtering lake water that campers would
swim in is not an acceptable option. We did see one
small spring along the lake access road toward the
north eastern end of the lake; however it looked
doubtful that it would still be active in July.
Meaning no disrespect to whomever wrote the U.S.F.S.
evaluation of this potential site, available parking
is one of its best features. From the lake access
road, the county road running eastward is two and a
half lanes wide with shoulders broad enough to park a
vehicle such that all four wheels would be off the
gravel. As the parking moved farther east a shuttle
system would need to be employed to transport people
and gear to the lake entry road, re-designated as an
entry trailhead, closed to vehicles to avoid dangerous
conditions for foot traffic.
There is a second entry road to the potential site
off the county road that dead ends at the lake’s
spillway. It sits in a small bottom with some open
area and potentially could serve for a bus
village/handicapped parking area.
Again, the major drawback to this potential site,
that which puts it in the “we can make it work if we
have too’ category is the lack of open meadow area.
There is a crescent shaped opening along the eastern
edge of the lake that continues into an approx. 5 or 6
acre area. Reality is, if there are no alternatives
and the water and other considerations check out OK,
it wouldn’t set precedent; sites have been used in the
past with very small to no open areas.
TEXAS :
Two potential sites were offered in Texas , the old
1988 site and a site in the Sabine NF at Haley’s
Ferry.
The Reservoir 1988---
We had no desire to return to the Sam Rayborn
Reservoir for even one moment. We also felt it was an
affront by the U.S.FS to even suggest the site, due to
previous events there.
The site didn’t work in 1988 and there was no reason
to believe it had changed. Also, we felt a lot of
family would have a difficult time using the site in
view of its history. Personally, watching the flat bed
semi’s with cages mounted on them come rolling out of
the morning fog at the back door in preparation for
mass arrests is something I’ll never forget, and hope
to never see again.
Additionally, assuming the U.S.FS monitors the
family newsgroup and had recently read the post
concerning NoGuns being at death’s doorstep in Santa
Cruz , we considered it insulting and crude to suggest
this site.
HALEY’S FERRY---
Interesting from only one perspective, it was
located in a U.S.FS district composed of only one
person. This was a new one for us, it was the first
time any of us had heard of a district that had only
one person running the whole show.
The site itself is actually a F.S. campground
located on the end of a point sticking out into the
Sabine Reservoir, complete with boat ramp and out
houses.. The boat ramp would be a major problem as we
felt we’d really have no right to deny access to its
use. That would mean vehicle traffic driving down the
center of the site, a potential dangerous
situation. Also there was no open area to speak of and
little parking. No potable water. Additionally, the
site abutted private lands developed with both summer
cottages and year round live-in homes. Friction
between land owners and gatherers would be
unavoidable.
McCLELLAN CREEK NATIONAL GRASSLANDS[7]---
On our way west, after Thanksgiving council in
Austin , Texas , three of us decided to check a few
areas that showed some potential while doing map
review at the Uof T map room. We found this site to
contain all priorities necessary for a successful
gathering and have suggested to the U.S.F.S. that it
be included on the “reserve” list they desire to
create. Further, we asked that two conditions “in a
spirit of co-operation” be implemented.
First, the current removal of damaged cottonwoods
(due to a minor fire on the west end of the site)
allow approx. one third of the dead wood left on site
for gathering usage.
Secondly that the lake be allowed to fill to a
maximum this spring and pre-July summer, currently the
lake covers approx. 9 acres of its potential 27 acre
area. There seems to be little to no agriculture
around this lake area, nor are there homes or ranches
that this lake supplies water too, it appears the lake
was created simply for the purpose of recreation.
This potential site is located just off I-40 in
the panhandle area of Texas ( Gray County ) and
although it is not N.F. property, it is administrated
by them for reasons unknown. There are no towns or
areas of residency within 30 to 40 miles of this site.
There is a store/gas station a few exits to the east,
major supply would, probably be located in Amarillo ,
Texas .
This site would certainly be different than any other
site we’ve previously used for an annual gathering as
it is actually an established (but little used, as its
run down condition indicates) campground complete with
camping sites, fireboxes, picnic tables, piped well
water and one electrical drop box area. There is also
a boat ramp that fails to reach the lake by about 200
yards due to the low water level.
The site contains adequate parking on several off
shoot roads and excellent handicap access as well a
separate area below the spillway for a bus village
compound. Open area is available on the western end of
the lake (actually part of the original lakebed).
Adequate shade is available from existing cottonwoods
as well as from some man made structures. There are
out houses on the site that could be used if agreement
to service them could be arranged with either the
U.S.F.S. or the local contractor they use.
There doesn’t appear to be any habitat issues
involved but that remains to be checked as well as
historical and cultural (American Indian) issues.
Overall, this appears to be an excellent potential
site as deserves a second look this spring.
A map of the area is included as appendix E.
OKLAHOMA
Two sites offered: Red Slough and Panther Creek.
Not sure if the recommendation of these sites simply
represents a particular type of humor akin to Oklahoma
or if they were in fact serious considerations in the
minds of those who suggested them. Either way they
were both a waste of time and money to scout.
RED SLOUGH---
Red Slough turned out to be one square mile of U.S.FS
property in the middle of a multimillion dollar State
of Oklahoma rehabilitation project. The site itself
was nothing more than an open square shaped field with
a thin line of trees along the edges. No water for
either bathing or consumption. Access was via a trail
across the Red Slough Project. Parking would only be
available along the major gravel road servicing the
project as well. Did I mention the alligators?
PANTHER CREEK---
Panther Creek offered no parking, no potable water,
and no open areas. Access is via a logged off ridge
road that fractures into many dead end roads built at
the time the area was initially logged. The main
gravel road drops down to Little River where camping
would be available for perhaps 1,000 folks if they
camped adjacent to each other, the rest of the
proposed site was too steep in general, offering
camping for possibly another 1,000 across the entire
drainage area of Panther Creek. Parking, at best would
be about six to eight miles south on Highway 259.
Site Criteria and Other Suggestions
“In the spirit of co-operation” I, as an individual
who volunteers on occasions to look for large scale
encampment sites for Rainbow Gatherings, have chosen
to pass along the following general criteria hoping
that future site suggestions by the U.S.FS will not be
so wasteful of time and money to review.
Each year different areas of the country are chosen
for gatherings, this, in itself, often dictates some
of the parameters for sites. For example, a western
area generally means high elevation will be required
to find a spring not “owned” or developed and in use
for summer grazing. For an eastern site, this, again
generally, is not a concern, but finding areas of
national forest without intrusive private property
becomes an issue. This year a southern area was
chosen, so the “ideal” site needs to include a body of
water large enough for campers to immerse in as heat
will be a factor of consideration.
Criteria List:
Road
If there is no “Gathering grade” road to within a few
miles of the site, it isn’t a site. A gathering grade
road is one and a half to two lanes wide, capable of
supporting large RV type vehicles safely. The road
surface is immaterial, paved or gravel, even dirt is
fine as long as it can support two-way traffic into a
parking area. From a parking area to the actual
trailhead, a one lane road is OK in conjunction with a
“shuttle” system. Shuttle systems are wasteful and to
be avoided if possible, a site needs to meet most all
other requirements to merit this transportation
nightmare.
Potential sites with roads through them are not viable
unless the U.S.FS is willing to work with gatherers
and determine if an area closure or specific road
closure is required for safety or environmental
protection.
Parking
There is no such thing as a parking lot in the woods;
therefore a creative solution is always required for
dealing with four to six thousand vehicles. “Ideally”
a large open clear cut or non-fragile (cattle graze)
meadow is fine. Roadside parking is the least
desirable solution, but unfortunately most often the
case. Any road, federal, state or county, if it allows
for all four wheels to be off the road is often used.
Logistics
Experience has shown that the best case scenario for
gatherings is one where individuals arrive, park,
walk-in and don’t leave the site until final
departure. A site far from private property and towns
is “ideal”. Also from the parking lot or trail head a
one to five mile “walk in” to the actual camping area
is preferred.
Water
Springs emanating from elevations above the use area
are the “ideal”. This allows for a gravity
distribution and filtration system to be employed.
Creeks, rivers and lakes can be used as a potable
source but tends to create more difficult distribution
and filtration. Also any private claims to water
sources need be addressed before a site is chosen for
use.
Open areas and Slope
“Ideally” a site should encompass at a minimum one
large area of meadow or clear cut for use in ceremony
and feeding purposes. Also any site that contains
slope of 20% or more over the whole area is not
conducive for tent style camping.
Down Dead Wood
No live wood is used at Rainbow Gatherings so a fairly
large (10 cords?) amount of wood is required in normal
situations. Gatherings, due to fire bans, are
increasingly shifting toward propane so this criterion
should be considered as minimal.
Percolation
Slit trenches, as defined by the US Army Large Scale
Maneuver Encampment Guide, are used at Gatherings, so
the composition of subsoil is important, and areas
that do not percolate need to be identified.
Flora and Fauna
Sites containing large areas of endangered flora or
fauna are not to be considered. If such sites have a
limited area of habitat that can be flagged off to
prevent degradation, it needs to be done before anyone
moves into the area.
Additionally, any historical monuments need to be
identified and labeled as such.
Land Claims
Any sites with prior claims such as areas of private
property or American Indian issues need to be noted so
that a use decision can be made by campers on an
individual basis.
Other Suggestions to U.S.FS employees responsible for
finding potential sites;
*
*
a. If the roads in the potential site area are
actually marked using county routes, please use them
when writing directions to the site.
*
*
b. Actual mileage between turn-offs is a good
thing.
*
*
c. Please do not list as U.S.FS contacts LEO’s
or Public Relocation Officers. If a person scouting
actually calls a district or regional office, it is
most likely for directions to a potential site, or to
question land ownership, or an environmental issue –
none of which a LEO or PR person can answer.
*
*
d. Please avoid asking anyone to check or review
potential sites in the middle of hunting season.
*
*
e. If at all possible, provide a contact that
can be reached on a weekend as many who look for sites
work during the week.
*
*
In Summation;
*
*
Rarely are all “ideal” criteria met. Most often a
choice of compromises between least undesirables is
made. There is however some criteria that
automatically eliminate any suggested area. These are:
*
*
No usable road to site.
*
*
No water on site.
*
*
No “safe” parking within 10 miles.
*
*
Too much private property within proposed area.
*
*
Both of us are part of the local music scene. I a promoter and him a promoter & guitarist in the band Dharma Engine.
Last month I went to a Potluck & Marcum was looking for a place to host the next one. The light bulb lit up in my head and I called Turtle and handed the phone to Marcum.
We manifested a lot of good food and there was plenty of good energy all around. The kids ran around pretty much on their own with no scolding needed other than a occasional reminder to shut the door behind them to keep the dogs ou
