It started as a way to solve the problems with an all-kevlar meteor. But we found that this 7' wonderfully simple device is almost a complete show in one tool: you can do torch moves, staff moves, poi moves, chain whip, and some rope dart moves. The soft kevlar rope that connects the torches isn't meant to be lit on fire, but you could do that, too, if you felt the need.
I've seen people place wick sticking out from the joints, I'm hoping to use my excess 1/4" wick and wrap the actual structure. The flames should be pretty small and not long very lasting but show the shape of the umbrella in fire.

If it works I'll try it again at some point with a heftier structure and thicker wick to get some better flames.

This is partially because I grew up a craftsman and carpenter, and partially because I come from simple means and could not afford many of the wonderful toys on the market. I make all of my own unoriginal toys like poi and staff, and some original ones like Giant Poi (I will post pictures sometime), Folding Fire Fans (based off an idea I discussed with MtBeer in Charlotte, I think he saw them somewhere though I never laid hands on a set before making them myself), and more recently the Flaming Bagpipes. These are simply propane rigged up the back of my drones with the fire burning out of 1/4 inch copper tubes. Since it sounds like a few people here play with welding etc, I may ask for advice getting some sort of torch, nozzle, end, something to make the propane fire burning off the copper tube both shoot in a direction and not go out when it gets windy.
