For Sun-

PINUP WORKSHOP DETAILS AND PREPARATION:

The Bombshell Betty Pinup Workshop and Photoshoot you signed up for is coming right up! Here is all the info you should need to be well prepared, and feel free to ask me any additional questions you might have. I have also posted a FAQ list at the bottom of this page on my website: http://www.bombshellbetty.net/pinup.html

*
How to dress for the Pinup Posing lesson:

For the first part of the workshop, wear comfortable, form fitting clothes that you can move in easily. You will want to be able to see how the silhouette of your body changes when you adopt different postures and poses, so it is essential that you can see your body! Feel free to bring something body conscious to change into when you get here. I also recommend wearing shoes like the ones you think you'd like to wear for the shoot. If you're going to wear heels for the shoot, it helps to practice posing in heels. And remember that dressing up is fun! Feel free to wear something that makes you feel sexy!

Keep in mind that tight bras, tight socks, tight waistbands, etc. can leave imprints on your skin that will not be flattering in the pictures. If you have a robe or house coat to wear during styling and in between sets, that may be comfortable for you and can minimize these marks.

*
Things to bring to the shoot:

- Two full outfits, including all jewelery and accessories. Your "outfits" can be anything you want: lingerie ensembles, costumes, evening wear, vintage pinup dresses, etc. Keep in mind that layering and props are great ways to get multiple looks out of one outfit (some people have gotten as many as 6 "looks" out of their two outfits!) and it's better to bring more than you think you'll use than wish you'd brought things you left at home!
- Bring fun props if you've got them! I have fans, boas, parasols, etc. which you can use, and feel free to bring more so that everyone will have lots of options.
- Your makeup! A good foundation that matches your skin tone, a translucent powder and black mascara are essential. Other than that, bring whatever you've got. Don't bother to buy a bunch of stuff that you won't use... I have tons to share!
- Hair supplies! If you have them, bring hot rollers, a curling iron, bobby pins...
- Bring styling photos (hair and makeup) for looks you would like to try during the shoot. Bringing pictures will help us get the looks you want!
- Bring music CDs. There's nothing like your favorite music to get you comfortable and in the mood in front of the camera.
- Bring snacks or a bagged lunch. You'll definitely want to keep your energy up during the shoot!

*

That's about it for preparation except for grooming. Hair should be clean and dry (it won't take a curl well if it's damp at all), all necessary shaving should be done, finger and toe nails should be groomed.

Betty has asked that everyone bring a "potluck" dish for Sunday so we can work/eat at the same time!

Ladies,

The fabulous Bombshell Betty of CA will be coming for a full burlesque weekend at our new studio on Dec 6 & 7!!!

* The burlesque strut and bump-and-grind song interpretation.

* Burlesque prop use including boas and how to use your clothing (before and after removal) as effective stage props and how to take it off gracefully without tripping on your frilly nothings.

* How to craft a burlesque skit using timing to create drama, sensuality and humor.

* Turning up the sensuality with striptease techniques.

* Techniques for engaging your audience and getting the exact response you want.

NOTE: While this class includes striptease techniques, no nudity is required and all comfort levels will be respected, so don't be scared if you don't want to take it off!

This workshop is from 2-6pm on Sat, Dec 6th.

Cost with pre-registration: $65/ 4 hours

please call to register at 407-579-9765 or stop on in to either Orlando Bellydance location!
*********

We also have two more spots available for Betty's Famous 8 Hour Pin-Up workshop on Sunday the 7th, from 11-7pm. This amazing workshop will be limited to only 15 students maximum and consist of:

PART ONE: Pinup Posing Workshop

At the Pinup Posing Workshop, you will learn:

- Posture and posing secrets that work with any photography style to strategically emphasize and de-emphasize body parts to visually sculpt your body: emphasize your bustline, slim the midriff, elongate your legs, and slim out your hips or add weight to your booty (depending on your preferences)

- Pinup posing and photo movement, including specifics for face, body and hands.

- Techniques you can practice at home to master the art of always looking fabulous in front of the camera.

- Effective prop use: learn to pose well with everything from chairs to parasols to your own clothing and costuming.

- Personality projection: You've heard that "it's all in the eyes" and the best models "make love to the camera." Learn how to gain confidence in front of the camera and present a powerful persona.

- Photo styling: Coordinating clothing, accessories, props and backdrop/background to create stunning and effective imagery...

- What to pack and how to prepare for your photo shoot.

- Take home reference materials provided.

PART TWO: Pinup Photo Shoot

At the Pinup Photo Shoot, you will receive:

- Photo makeup and retro hair styling makeover!

- Plenty of time with our fabulously talented photographer, shooting multiple looks for a wide variety of images.

- Gentle instruction and detailed posing direction from Bombshell Betty during the shoot to ensure you get the most flattering images possible.

After the shoot, you will receive:

- A disk including high-resolution copies of all the images from the shoot, so that you may see for yourself which poses work for you and which ones to work on. This is highly unusual in the industry, as most photographers will only give you low-res proof images and charge you an additional fee for each high-res image or print that you order! With a Bombshell Betty Pinup Workshop, there are no hidden costs or need to buy the photos after the shoot!

Total Cost for this workshop is $250 for the 8 hours of instruction & retro makeover, including the photo shoot and full disc of your pin-up images.

A non-refundable downpayment of $125 is required to hold your spot, with the final payment being due Dec 1st.

Lean into the right hip. Arabasque left leg. Arms back in second. To 3 quick hip twists to the front. (Suspira counts this 1,2,3,4,5 but I prefer 1-and-2-and-3).

3/4 profile to the right. Hands back over head. hip locks to the back while bending down slightly. ( I can't remember the rhythm of the locks here. Is it 1, 2, 3-4-5?)

Turn into 3/4 profile to the left. repeat.

Arms into second position. Face front. Take a big step forward with starting on the right foot, while shoulder punching right, left. Chest lift up-down. 4 hip locks down starting on the right. Bend down slightly while raising arms up into a V.

Tata Photography will be offering OBD students very affordable options for EU11 Portraits - both professional indoor shots with a backdrop, and lavish outdoor "Dreamscape" portraits. Here is a descripiton of both:

Outdoor "Dreamscape" type photos (like those of "Serpentina" and "Orlando Dance Theatre" done by Tata) will take place the weekend AFTER EU11 - on October 25th and 26th, at a beautiful outdoor location that will be posted soon.. Dancers will receive a full high resolution photo cd of your images (one costume per disc, with the option of including props), as well as a free 5x7 print for only $50!

Indoor photos will be taken at the Orlando Bellydance studio , the prior to the show during dress rehearsals! Dancers may choose from a selection of varying backdrops. Dates for these photos will be from October 13th through October 17th. Dancers will receive a high-resolution photo cd, with a minimum of 5 professional portraits for $15 (one costume per disc, the the option of including props).

Specific dates and times will be posted on separate posts, so everyone can sign-up underneath them. Payment is due at the time of the sitting. (cash only). Dancers not attending classes on photo days may select any day for portraits. Those wanting additional portraits may sign up on alternate days to take portraits in other costumes or "looks". Please note that if we are in our new studio when portraits are taking place (a possibility, but we won't know for certain until closer to the date), it may be possible for dancers to take additional portraits on the same day in different costumes, because there will be changing areas external to the dance studio available.

A special thanks to Tata for making these shoots so affordable for our amazing dancers!

Ladies,
Bombshell Betty of CA will be coming for a full burlesque weekend at our new studio on Dec 6 & 7. We are finalizing workshop specifics and times, but we will definitely be running the Famous 8 Hour Pin-Up workshop (most likely on Sunday the 7th.) This amazing workshop will be limited to only 15 students maximum and consist of:

- Personality projection: You’ve heard that “it’s all in the eyes” and the best models “make love to the camera.” Learn how to gain confidence in front of the camera and present a powerful persona.

Registration for this workshop will begin later this week. We are super-excited to have this amazing diva come to our studio!

Also a nice Christmas present (to ourselves........hahahaha!)

She will be also available for private/semi-private lessons at the studio (unsure of the rate at this time will get that out asap), and we will also have at least one more specialty workshop during her visit.

Dancers who would like live professional portraits can get them for $15 for a photo disc, and get a free 5x7 print included. All I ask is that dancers pay at the party, or in advance, the $15 (cash only.) Please contact me directly with questions through my website, www.tataphotography.com. Or through tribe. I will also be doing shots with a backdrop at the studio prior to EU 11 . Please let me know in advance if you would like photos done at the party , so I know which dancers to focus on for pictures.

Please bring your best flexible attitude and your bigest smile. I do not know what the dressing room situation will be Please arrive with all your make up on and only bring the minimal amount of STUFF.
1) As soon as you get in the door ( remember your $10 entrance fee) Please look for me near the DJ stand and check in. and give me your CD at that time. I will not be able to run around and look for you. If you have not checked in I will assume you are not there . Group numbers Please have a designated spokesman who everyone will check in with and that person will check in with me and turn in their CD.
2) Soloists please bring your CD with ONLY your single song on it. Write your name and the song name on the CD with a magic marker.
3) We will plan to run by the list Suspira has posted but please be prepared early in case of no-shows or other issues.
4) Don't forget your coverup. As usual you should not be anywhere the audience can see you without your coverup .
5) We will take 1 or 2 intermissions with open dance music. Please take this opportunity to get out there and have fun and encourage some of the lower level students to get up and participate. They look up to you so be dance ambassadors!
As Suspira mentioned in another Post the traffic on I drive is very bad right now. The club doors should open at 6:30 and I would like to astrt the show by no later than 7:15. Early dancers please plan ahead.
6) Bring Club Clothes to change into if you are staying to party the night away after the Hafla.

Some of you have expressed that you have forgotten Fever completely. I am willing to offer some of you (we could only accommodate 9 or 10) to re-take the workshop at a reduced rate of $25. The reason why it is reduced, is that the LAST week of Fever practice is actually after the Hafla. So you would be only able to take 3/4 of the workshop before it is performed. You would have the option of taking the last class or not.

For those of you who feel you need more than one brush up, I will see if we can squeeze in another. Monday, August 11th we have an opening at 10-11 that she could do, but I don't know how many people could do that time slot.

We may also, if needed, do an additional brush up Friday, Aug 22nd at 7:30-8:30pm in Gypsy Sa'har's timeslot, since many of the Gypsies are in the routine, and they are ahead of schedule with their EU11 material.

Previously, we've discussed why it is not appropriate to use Mehndi, or henna as decoration in bellydance. It is from the Indian culture, and is typically applied during special occasions like weddings and religious festivals.(This is my understanding. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.)

Today, while browsing the internet, I was introduced to the idea of Harquus. According to http://www.harquus.com/ "Harquus is a word for black facial ornamentation in North Africa and the Middle East. It can refer to both tattooing and skin painting. The patterns of harquus tattooing, and henna often mirror each other, and were intended to enhance each other. These patterns may have served as ornament for exposed skin, proxy for jewelry, an ethnic identifier, or a sensuous enhancement. Each woman probably felt her reason for being tattooed was some combination of these elements. Pre-Islamic Arabic poetry praised women’s tattooed throats as graceful and sensuous."

Harquus were also used for blessings. Each region throughout North Africa and the Middle East had its own symbols for fertility, protection, and luck. These markings were traditionally permanent facial tattoos (ouch!) but can also be done with temporary paint for dances and festivals. Many American Tribal Style Bellydancers (think Fat Chance Bellydance) wear Harquus as part of their costuming.

Here are some pictures I found online.

I'm posting this because I wanted to share this beautiful artform with you all. Also, I am performing a traditional basket dance at the Hafla and am thinking of wearing some Harquus. Suspira, can you tell me if you would consider this appropriate?

I have found all the local Target store's availability with the Fedora hats. They are $12.99 plus tax and are black with small white pinstripes and a small diamond buckle on the side. The following Target stores have availability :

Waterford Lakes SuperTarget = 4
Millenia SuperTarget = 7
Sanford SuperTarget = 5
East Colonial = 2

I apologize if I have missed any Target stores in your area, but the likelyhood of availability is good since this item will be in stores for about three more months before they get moved out of inventory. If you would like to call your local Target to find availability, to put a hat on hold for 24 hours, or to purchase online, the item ID number is : 061-03-0189.

Hey Guys,

I work for the City of Altamonte Springs, where I coordinate social programs for the mentally and physically challenged community. One Friday a month, 80-100 participants gather for a themed dance - full of music, costumes, food, and fun!!

On Friday, November 14, 2008, we will be having an "Arabian Nights" Dance at Eastmonte Park in Altamonte Springs. I was hoping to have my event volunteers for that dance be dressed up as belly dancers....THATS WHERE YOU ALL COME IN.... I need 10-15 bellydancers to volunteer at the dance in costume from 6:45pm-9pm. The volunteer tasks include: socializing, handing out drinks & food, monitoring the dance floor, dance contest & costume contest judges, and more. (Dont worry, your costumes wont get dirty with any of these tasks)

These dances are A LOT of fun and the special needs participants would be ECSTATIC to have REAL belly dancers at their event!!

I know this is kind of early on, but if you are interested, please save the date and I will re-post this again in late October.

PS... The City of Altamonte Springs also has a special needs belly dancing group. They will be hosting their very first recital the next day (Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 7-9pm). Cost is only $1... I will send out more details about that at a later time.

Thanks for your time!! :-)

Shainna would like you to all wear a brigtly colored choli top, bellydance style skirt, and a special scarf that I believe goes from your shoulder to your waist. I will have her expain further, and post a photo to better give us an idea. Please note that there are still spots left in this awesome workshop. I can't wait!

For Fever (and by the way, the music just WON'T send - I am making a hard copy so if on Monday someone wants to take it and see if you have better luck, I can then forward the music to everyone)---- Black dance pants, OR burlesque-y black skirt with fishnets, black shoes (if you need to wear flats, that's fine, but heels always look better), and corset top in black with red accents or red with black accents, and a red neckscarf (perhaps one of our costume divas can make those!) You may also wear red or black gloves, garder belts (if you have a skirt) and red or black feathers or hats in your hair.

The polynesian costume was explained earlier, but let us know if you need a recap!

Very excited looking forward to Oct! I was thinking it would be helpful for us "newbees" if you could go over the proper dance eduquette.
I know you had a one day workshop in the past and by no means do I want to add more work to yur overflowing plate. I can only speak for myself , that I think it would be very helpful even to just know few of the most important points. Maybe just a posting with some crucial points. Just a thought. Thanks again for all you do!

Also, what do you ladies think of wearing a corset of sorts, since we were talking about bras? I was listening to the song over the weekend for some reason with a hat, I started thinking that a corset with pants would work well; I know Jennifer Allen wore a corset once that she altered and shortened to make like a half bra and that also looked really nice. I'm not sure if all was decided on costuming last week, but I thought it was early enough to put that out there.

See you all Wednesday!
