Well, I figured I would take advantage of the fact that I seem to be in the mood to be on Tribe (this does not happen often). For those of you that do not know what the theme is this year, it is Norse. Now this in and of itself does not seem like a big deal but in some ways it is, at least to me. When I was a little girl many, many moons ago, I would go to my fathers parents house and my grandad would sit under the willow tree in their back yard with me and he would say "now remember not tell this to your dad because he does not understand why I pass this on to you." With that said, he would proceed to tell me our histories and myths in the only language he knew to pass it on to me in. In this fashion I learned my heratige in Norwegian. To this day, I hear his voice in my head although I now longer remember the exact words and I truly would not trust my pronunciation if I could. What I do remember is the meaning or the stories and I remember the power of this. He passed on to me how his family, my family, used to celebrate each of the spokes of the wheel and I have been called upon to share this with our community. That is what main ritual this year is based on. Ritual will be less about what many of us have learned to be magick but rather the magick of celebration and in this case, the celebration of the Sun Lady Sunna and the Bright One Lord Baldr. The more conventional magick will be found in opening and closing rituals as the past, present, and future unfold.
We have learned much over the years and traveled much in our rituals at Sunfest. This year, no less than others as we celebrate the Summer Solstice in a Norse perspective. I truly look forward to seeing all of you there!

Re: Sunfest 2008 Rituals
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 2:58 PMOh this will be such a wonderful year! I am so thirlled to see that you Aine andyou hubby will be at Sunfest as well as you Wendy and your guy. Nathan and I are just about jumping up and down knowing this! (Wendy, if you are wondering who I am and who Nathan is, he is the tallish (6'5") guy that is always in dark clothes. We have talked many times although it has been awhile. In fact, I think the last time we all talked was outside of Portland Pagan Pride when we showed up on his crazy but fun Ural; motorcycle with side car... -

Re: Sunfest 2008 Rituals
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 6:47 AMWow, this should be an amazing festival! I agree with Ogg that the drumming, already excellent, will rise several notches with these additions.
Tina, thanks for the info on your background with the Norse religion. I must admit I was mildly disturbed at this year's theme. I have several friends who are Asatru from the hoff in Lebanon (real Asatru, not "Wicca-tru"). There is always suspicion on their part that neo-Wiccans just grab their gods and paste them onto the Wiccan religion. I'm hoping for a real Pagan/Heathen ecumenical event, with respect and authenticity for the Norse aspects.
Mind you, I realize folks can make the same accusations against me since I follow gods of African, Celtic, Norse and Native American pantheons. In my defense, I don't claim to "follow" any religion. I'm very interested in religions and study them and consider myself to be what most would call "religious". But I don't allow anyone or any religion to stand between me and my gods. (I consider all religions to be human constructs.) I just call myself a Shaman Herdsman and go where the gods lead me. I didn't choose my gods, it was the other way 'round, THEY chose me. (And in most cases I was reluctant to be chosen by the ones that did!) -

Re: Sunfest 2008 Rituals
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 7:59 AMDale, No problem with posting the back ground on the ritual. Also please feel free to pass my contact information to your friends as I would LOVE to talk with some people that are real Asatru before festival. It may help with the last few points that I am trying to check on because it is all based from the memory of me when I was small.

Re: Sunfest 2008 Rituals
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 7:57 AMWe had great drumming last year and yes I agree it will be even better this time with adding these three fabulous musicions. What we needed last year was more dancers... Any chance you know of any that are coming? I am not sure I want to hear one of the board memebers calling out for boobies and not getting enough again this year lol -

Re: Sunfest 2008 Rituals; Garb
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 12:19 PMThis is a forwarded message:
What kind of household garb should we be looking at for the ladies,
men, and children?
Jennifer Carey-Hannum
Reply:
for women a basic traditional dress would be the apron dress, men a tunic would be in order. On the Other Worlds of Wonder web site under; links then crafts, you will find a few basic links at the bottom of the page for information on garb for this years theme including some simple patterns. I hope this helps. There is also a link there about traditional dyes and coloring of clothing I believe.
