My friend Al Cofrin plays oud for his band Istanpita at these kinds of fairs (mostly the Texas Ren Fair). Because it is a medieval band, he tunes his oud like a lute (at least that is what he told me). The funny thing about that is even though it is a pricey oud (Najarian) is still a lot cheeper than some quite medieval lute replica.
