I will be in the studio playing a live DJ set on Case Western Reserve University's radio show The Raver's Edge on 91.1FM WRUW Cleveland on Dec. 13th.

Absolutely Great!! Harmonic ConcorDance2

I and Paul want to let everyone know - who didn't already hear us say it last night before we drove home (actually very early this morning :) - what a super event this was. I thought Xeric Nation was great (for those who haven't seen the page at MoreLife.org that included my write-up about it - http://morelife.org/personal/photos2008/photos_62.html ), but HCD2 surpassed it. The visuals, music, general layout, the people and those porta-johns (well what can I say about that luxury in the desert) came together for a fantastic night. Hope the rest of the weekend was as good for everyone else who camped.

My throat is still sore from talking so much - more than all I did with others in the 6 months in rural Ontario :) It was great to visit with old friends and maybe acquire a few more. But those talk (and photo taking) breaks gave my legs a rest from dancing, of which I did plenty because the music was so good. (Spyder's higher energy was tops!) And everyone seemed to be having as good a time as we had. Loved the hula hoops and the fact that so many tried them out - I hadn't used one in over 50 years but maybe I'll try to find one for myself and get as good as Ashley and Rae.

I'll upload photos of the event to my tribe page in the next day or 2 - I think I got some good ones. And I'm looking forward to seeing Mitch's too. (I'm on the lookout for an inexpensive tripod so I can get those super 4 second exposures...)

We are coming up on our 7 year anniversary and certainly wish to celebrate that. However, it is likely that we'll be throwing fewer outdoor events this season than we have in recent years. This is to ensure that we don't overextend ourselves and that each event is comprehensive in its infrastructure and very memorable in its impact. On the off-chance that we receive a large amount of donations this season, we might find ourselves able to do things more frequently than currently projected.

We have some other neat things in the works, but I will not detail them until they are more final. In the meantime, I am composing this message to solicit feedback from our community on things/people/etc they'd like to see at our events, ideas they'd like to see implemented, suggestions they have, etc.

So, have at it! Many, many thanks for all the years of support and goodwill that everyone's shown us!

Progressive recomendations?

Summer's here and I've grown a little worn out on the hard dark psy that I usually adore. I need something sunshiny to listen too. After dusting off my music collection I've realized that most of it is from the last millennium.

Bacon Vodka!

It's times like this I remember why I love the Intarwebs so much:

Fry up three strips of bacon.
Add cooked bacon to a clean pint sized mason jar. Trim the ends of the bacon if they are too tall to fit in the jar. Or you could go hog wild and just pile in a bunch of fried up bacon scraps. Optional: add crushed black peppercorns.
Fill the jar up with vodka. Cap and place in a dark cupboard for at least three weeks. That’s right- I didn’t refrigerate it.
At the end of the three week resting period, place the bacon vodka in the freezer to solidify the fats. Strain out the fats through a coffee filter to yield a clear filtered pale yellow bacon vodka.

Decant into decorative bottles and enjoy.

It's an OMW summer!

As you all can probably guess, our outdoor season has drawn to a close. It's going to be way too damn hot to do any outdoor events in the immediate area over the next several months. In the meantime, I'd like to find an indoor venue in the Phoenix area where OMW can host some summertime events. Seriously, who can wait until September (or later) to hear some pumping psy in the company of great friends again!?! So, if anyone has any ideas for indoor venues (I have a few in mind) where we could feasibly do indoor events for the summer months, leave that info here or pm me with details. Let's have some fun this summer!

Xeric Nation - In Review

Super Job, guys!! While I and Paul don't have a long history or events we've attended, we've gone to enougth of them to put this one at the top of the list for desert events in our estimation. (Karuna gets first place from us for indoor :)

I really want to let Chris and Kevin know how much I enjoyed their visuals. I found myself fasciantaed with Chris' light towers, which anyone can see by the number of photos I took from various angles with them in different light configuarations. And it was terrific to find a real-life proto Rainbow Cadenza. (For those who aren't savy, look up J Neil Shulman's sci-fi book - Kevin and I had quite a conversation over it and it's influence on his art.)

All the other visual and audio effects - along with that great full moon and desert location - made for a terrific time. If Paul hadn't told me his legs were telling him to stop, I'd have kept on going at least another hour. But this morning my thighs let me know that they'd really been worked hard (that hill climbing during the day is probably what did it :).

So once again - super terrific event! Can't praise it enough. I've returned value to OMW via the PayPal button in addition to the 5 gal of gas we brought - we received more value than we expected. I hope that everyone who was there returns value commensurate with the enjoyment/value they received from this event.

As much as I don't want to say it, and as much as I want to believe its all about the music, ultimately it costs a lot of money to do these events and I'm not so sure that simply taking donations is the way to go.

I don't know anything about how successful the donations thing has been but I would imagine it hasn't been very fruitful. I don't think that asking an admission price is too much to ask or that it deviates from any intentions of why the event is happening in the first place. It simply ensures that costs are covered and such.

These are just my thoughts. I for one spend a lot of money on video gear, equipment and deco but don't really ever expect to make any of it back. But there are certain things like recurring costs that surely could be accounted for. Like whenever you guys rent that van, genny gas, water, etc.

Just tossing around ideas...

I and Paul have guests - twins from Iceland age 25 (male) - coming to visit who are EDM fans, mostly trance & house stuff, and would like to be able to take them to something here in central AZ. We'll drag them along to Switch Weds on 3/26, but that's just house and some energetic trance would be great during that week.
BTW - they do some production themselves when they're not eyeball deep in University studies (food biology); 2 somewhat different genres under names Dualmind and EO Music (they used this last name - for their own, Egill and Olafur - long before Equal Opportunity Music Group started doing so):

I'll be @ Cupids Revenge on Saturday setting up Deco and helping make the stage look good with Psyteknology

then Sunday I'll be at Outside Worlds Day at the Park gathering hoping to chill with tons of good friends and shred up some hacky sack.

This will be a combination of focused classes, collaborative free spin time, one on one attention, and participant directed exploration. We will cover foundation principles and forms, along with body awareness and the spin zones around your body.This will fill in holes in your knowledge, and create a mental map that will propel you towards complete freedom of movement and expression. From this foundation we can explore a variety of concepts, tricks and patterns from core poi knowledge to the cutting edge of modern poi.

Some concepts you can explore with us:

Alien Jon:
Jonathan Everett has been spinning things since childhood, starting with himself, and expanding to socks with tennis balls in them and sticks found in the woods of Maine. Starting with his first pair of devilstix in 1995, he officially entered the world of object manipulation. In 1999, from a foundation built on devilstix and drawing inspiration from T'ai Ji and Aikido, he began spinning glowing objects on strings or in socks at "all night dance parties". After meeting other spinners he learned that objects had been spun in a similar manner for millennia by ancient cultures from around the world. This gave rise to the discovery of fire spinning, and his dedication to the art of contemporary poi began.
From devilstix and poi other object manipulation quickly followed: Sphereplay, staff, meteor, diabolo, and astrojax to name a few. These talents have been melded with a love of music and dance, including liquid, illusional, and funk styles. Jon loves to play and lives for the spark of innovation and creativity, while further honing his skill through diligent practice.
Jon has performed at the Fringe Benefit for the 1st Annual Boulder Fringe Festival, the 1st Annual Boulder Juggling Festival, Ratuva Circus performance and workshops, COSM Fire, the 2007 Burning Man Conclave, and with the ExtraTerrestrial Circus Experiment. He has taught classes around the country in poi, sphereplay, and devilstix at the Double Rainbow Ranch, Boulder Circus Center, 1st Annual Boulder Juggling Festival, Shepherd Valley Waldorf School, SphereCamp East and West, Domba/Mystic Jewell Dance Studio, Wildfire (CT), Florida State University, and at Renaissance Festivals country-wide. He also teaches private lessons.

Zan's:
Zan started performing in South America on tour with his brother Noah, and continues to burn with the same inspired passion as in the beginning. His training has led him far and wide, through a dozen countries and across the disciplines of spinning, dance, juggling, music, yoga, circus, martial arts, and acrobatics. Zan's specialty is dazzling fire performances, though he thrives on the challenge of a unique performance for each event, be it day or night. Whatever the occasion, Zan delivers pure entertainment with unforgettable class, style, and grace.

SASCO Cleanup Party #1

Ok, let's see...I want to go to the ruins next week...

1ST EVER SASCO CLEANUP PARTY

Date: 23 Febuary to 24 Febuary
Time: 10am to 10am

I'll be at the SASCO ruins
just outside of Casa Grande.
I'll be getting there at around 10am,
with a bunch of contractor grade
trash bags, a couple rakes and shovels,
a cooler full of beer, a bunch of meat,
a B-B-Q and a large sound system.

Me and some friends will be doing some clean-up
and working on our tans during the day,
"sandwiches at the shooting range" for lunch,
with the B-B-Q firing up around 4 pm.
we are also going to be setting up the sound,
spinning some fire tools,
and burning some other stuff.

In the morning we will do a line sweep,
load up the trash we picked up,
and then will have breakfast somewhere on the way home.

Bring work gloves, rakes, trash bags, fire toyz, meat, beer and ammo...

Firearms are welcome and encouraged.

This is an all ages event, with parent or guardian,
or the right kind of bribe.....

So, anyone want to join me and help do our little part
for the earth, and have some fun doing it,
let me know and I'll shoot directions to you.

Gemini Fest

Its never too early to begin preparations. After all its only 4 months away!
I won't miss this for anything. Last years was just that good.

My thoughts are to fly into Reno (or Sacramento depending on airfare), rent a van or large occupancy vehicle, and make the short drive over. I really would much rather do something like that instead of driving the entire what, 18 hours from Phoenix? No thanks! It was fun and all but man that was rough.

I figure if we don't get a big enough group of people we could always just rent a small car. I'd also much rather make the drive from Reno mainly for the scenery. Apparently the drive from Sacramento is booooooooring.

Need Ride to Circuit VII

I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I bashed up the front of my truck last friday when some driver decided to hesitate at a stop light causing me to slide on the wet road right into the back of his indestructible SUV. Sad times.

Bottom line is, the truck doesn't run well and has no headlights. So I'm stuck without transportation.

I was planning to be up there friday in order to have everything setup before the party starts but I suppose I could just get there whenever possible.

If anyone could help me out with a ride up there it would be much appreciated. I'll help with gas and expenses.

Please note that I'm bringing deco and my video gear so I do have a little bit of equipment to take with me. Not more that a couple boxes though.

burning man 2008!!

ok so i spend like the last 3 plus hours reading thru the whole burning man site. i am really more serious than ever now, i want to go to burning man for sure!!! but i will go only if a group of people will go with me. I know Timcat is planning on going but i dont know for sure. who else wants to go to burning man so we can all go as a group.

My other question is how much will i need to spend in total? My guess is around 2 grand, but im not sure. so if anyone is wanting to go to burning man we should do some kind of rental of a big van and a cargo truck for our stuff.

what do u guys think?

I understand the economics of the situation and can't fault her for her decision. The shame is that so few trance fans turned out regularly.

So what are the plans?... that is if you guys are ready to announce them or to let serious fans in on the deliberations.

Vibration - aftershock!

Wow, what a thrill ride of a weekend. After being slapped down by the man, Overmind Works picked ourselves up and moved a hundred miles away to a second venue. We were not to be deterred, and proceeded to rock that desert like never before! I've finally had some sleep, and my mind is still reeling from the best damn show we've had to date. Resonance - Afterglow

Wow! what to say about an event that defied all expectations. First of all, I want to give a huge thanks to all the DJs, promoters, support staff, and trancers who braved the roads, desert heat, and insect bombardment to celebrate life with us this last weekend. It was truly a memorable experience and I'm glad I was able to be a part of it. Huge props to Eric for your help in putting this all together. It was great working with you, and I look forward to more events in the future. Thanks to all the out-of-town Audio Navigators (Mark, Wendy, Gwyn, and Cody). You guys all played great sets, and we'll get you the recordings asap. I'm glad everyone seemed to enjoy the location (though maybe not the road to it). It was brand new for us, but it's so beautiful and secluded that we'll definitely be trancing again there soon. I hope everyone who came out had as great a time as I did getting it all put together. See you all next time.

also, big apologies to anyone who did not receive directions. With cell reception being so spotty in the mountains, we were unable to check either voice mail or email while on site. Next time we'll have a contingency plan in place for you.
