So my dad went into the hospital on Monday for a check up on some breathing problems and was given an emergency tracheotomy to open up his airway. Since then, he'd also been diagnosed with throat cancer and is looking at some serious radiation treatments.
So as part of the aftercare when he gets out (tomorrow or Saturday) he needs to have a 10" catheter inserted into his lungs to clear out any mucus build up.
Got my first chance to try it today and I did not like it at all!!!
Please urge any loved one's in your life to STOP SMOKING!

Re: Pretty high on my list of things NOT to do!
Fri, December 29, 2006 - 8:14 PMThat would do it!
Dad just had his second chemo treatment today, IV drip-style. So far he is tolerating them pretty well.
In about a week he will be starting a much more aggressive chemo/radiation and I'm kind of edgy about how he'll do. He is 6' tall and currently weighs about 120 pounds!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: Pretty high on my list of things NOT to do!
Fri, February 2, 2007 - 10:48 PMI quit smoking 2 weeks, 1 day, 9 hrs and 7 minute ago... for the 4th time....I've already developed COPD (which I am NOT proud to say, did NOT deter me) Intellectually, I knew (daily, I might add) that I was continuing to do harm to myself...but I just couldn't get to a place to stop.
Finally, on 1/17 I had a party in celebration of (a year ago) the day I adopted my cat. It was a really bad time for me and taking in this kitten was the perfect cure. Since he helped me get through such a very painful and crippling time, I wanted yet another good thing to come of it...so I just let my cigarettes run out, which ran over into the next afternoon...and have just "dealt with it" since.
I hope your dad is still doing well. My heart goes out to you.

I'll forward this info to Carla, though I have serious doubts that it will deter her from her smoking habits .. ick ..
