Earthweavers Festival Announcement (festival event for pagans and all other believers)

Earthweavers First Annual Fall Calling of the Clans

October 10-13, 2008 Kent's Store, Virginia

We are thrilled to announce that after months of searching, we have finally found the perfect setting for our first annual festival, The Calling of the Clans!

The Calling of the Clans is being held at the CampOut Campground, which is located off I-64 between Richmond and Charlottesville Virginia. This location is a 90 minute drive from Norfolk, a 45 minute drive from Charlottesville. You can't get lost, it's interstate driving almost all of the way!

CampOut Campground is 97 fully wooded acres of gently rolling pristine Virginia forest. Included is Lake Towanda, a 7.5 acre, immaculate swimming lake with a sandy beach. The Campground is equipped with a clean, well-lit, and scrupulously maintained shower house and privately maintained Port-a-Potties.

CampOut is an Earth conscious campoground, complete with an on-site Recycling Center. We are truly blessed to have found such a perfect place to celebrate life on our Mother Earth, with our unique Community amongst friends and friends-to-be!

We decided to begin The Calling of the Clans because of a need we have felt and heard expressed throughout our Community, a need to return to the basics to what drew us to out-door festivals many years ago — a love of this beautiful planet, the ties of soul and spirit to our Community, our Mother, and her creatures, be they four footed, winged or fey.

Celtic Myth Podshow

Hi all,

I apologise if advertising here causes offence but I am hoping that
the subject of this podcast will be of sufficient interest to the
subscribers to this list to warrant inclusion.

I produce the Celtic Myth Podshow (http://celticmythpodshow.com) which
is a free MP3 download and aims to tell the stories of Celtic
mythology to its listeners. We have started with the Irish
Mythological Cycle and aim to cover all of the Six Nations in the
series. The by-line of the show is "Bringing the Tales and Stories of
the Ancient Celts to your Fireside" which is the atmosphere we would
like to create. The old legends were recounted orally and only written
down in later years, so by hearing them told we are getting a step
closer to their original presentation and hopefull, meaning. That's
the theory anyway :)

You can find us on itunes or download/listen to the episodes on the website

I hope this is of interest to some

Thank you

Ruth

Many of us celebrate the sabbats...and it often seems thats the only time some of us get together to do rituals...or full moons.

Does anyone celebrate special occasions....for instance a mother's day ritual for our mother earth?

Or birth rituals like wiccanings?

Death rituals?

Passage rituals?

Well Worn Path/ Hidden Path... Anyone using these cards?

I am working with a new divination deck now. Here it is:
http://www.wellwornpath.com/

My son sent it to me for Mother's Day... after I gave him this one for his Birthday:
http://www.wellwornpath.com/HiddenpathAnnouncement.htm

I met the artist, Mickie Mueller, in St. Louis last month. Her artwork really speaks to the unconscious, I think. That is what drew me to the deck based in the shamanic traditions of Old Europe. The images.

Is anyone here using the cards? What do you think?
Healing Ceremony

this is an interfaith healing ceremony.,...feel free to use it. just give me the proper credit. it is my words, errors and all

SERVICE OF HEALING
M = Minister; C = Congregation;
________________________________________
As the service commences, we quietly sit in meditation.

Solar Energizing Meditation

Find a comfortable position. Breathe in slowly. Close your eyes. Relax your body, beginning with your face; imagine the breath traveling throughout your entire body. Allow your breath to relax your forehead, relaxing all your tissues, and slowly working its way down to your feet.

As your entire body relaxes, focus your attention around you. Imagine yourself standing outside in a bright sunny day. Let the warm sun cover you from head to toe, making you feel warm and very calm.

Allow this gentle warmness of the sun massages your arms and hands, making them feel very light and airy. Move the sun’s energy down your chest and into your stomach; making this area feel very peaceful and calm.

Now take another deep breathe, again feel the warmness traveling down your entire body. Focus your attention on the back of your spine. Imagine the energy of the sun working its way down your spine.
Feel the energy of the sun in the spine spreading out throughout your body.

Allow your spine to become long, and extend downward. Feel the energy traveling down your spine and down to your toes. As your body is covered with sunlight, imagine all things you wish to energize in your life. Just imagine whatever it is you need revived and let the sun infuse with energy.

Once more let the sun light cover your body, giving you endurance and vitality. Feel yourself become alive and awake with the sun’s energy.

Now, just relax and enjoy the energy vibrating throughout your entire body. Breathe in deeply and repeat the process of energy moving throughout your body. Now on the count of 3 slowly open your eyes, 1, 2, 3,

Minister: Peace and love be with you, from Mother Goddess, the Protectress, and Guardian
C : And also with you.
M: Give thanks to the Mother Goddess, who is good, whose mercy lasts forever!
C: They cried to the Mother Goddess in times of trouble, and she rescued them
M: Mother Goddess sent forth healing and save them from despair.
C: Mother Goddess sustains them on their sick-bed, and serves them during illness.
M: Mother Goddess is my strength and my song, and has become my light.
All : Give thanks to the Mother Goddess who is good, whose mercy lasts forever!

All sit.

A poem is read to inspire and invoke the energy of healing

A cure for the broken
A word for the lonely
A light for the darkness
That consumes us
Let our eyes open
To witness the beginning
Of a new day

A Prayer is spoken responsively. All pray together.

Great Mother Goddess
For your mercy we seek
the tools and wisdom
to heal through these times
let our hearts, mind and bodies
become the instruments
of balance and perfect harmony

A brief sermon on healing:

Helper asking for Help (Poem)

In this room of darkness –
I seek the answers
I look for light
But I stumble to find
The words
I know not how to ask
For guidance –
I’ve been the light for others
Now I’m lost
I pray for a kind soul
That sees through me
But I’ve buried myself
So deeply in others –
That I’ve lost myself
I pray
Find me
Let me know what to do
Let me see clearly
So I can continue to serve....

Many of us find ourselves constantly involved in helping others. Either we serve as helpers in the form of being parents, friends, good neighbor or spouse. However, as we often help others, we forget to help ourselves until we encounter some type of illness that forces us to look at ourselves. Let us remember to always keep a balance between helping others and helping ourselves. Remember, if we are not healthy we are often useless to serve.

The Litany of Healing.

M: For those suffering from illness: grant the power, to turn sickness into health and sorrow into joy.
C : Heal us, and make us whole, Mother Goddess
M: For those in suffering distress, sorrow or pain: grant mercy, relief and a renewed life. Help them find in their strength and calm.
C : Heal us, and make us whole, Mother Goddess
M: For those who serve to heal others: bless and guide them through their work. Grant them wisdom and skill, sympathy and patience in working with others.
C : Heal us, and make us whole, Mother Goddess
M: For family and friends: grant them resilience, patience and faithfulness. Let you love and light guide them through times of darkness.
C: Heal us, and make us whole, Mother Goddess
M: For the dying: grant them peace and a holy death. For their loved ones: grant them Your Spirit's grace and comfort.
C: Heal us, and make us whole, Mother Goddess
M: For those who are broken within: mend their broken lives, and create new beginnings. Give comfort to the worried, direction to the confused, serenity to the angry and your love to the lonely.
C : Heal us, and make us whole, Mother Goddess
M : Let us offer our prayers by name before Mother Goddess

At this point, those at worship can offer their prayers aloud by just giving names, or by giving asking specifically what is being prayed for.

Minister shall close with this prayer:

Divine Goddess
forever guardian of those that seek her wisdom
hear us on behalf of those who are ill
with your blessings and guidance
restore health upon them
allow them to be in complete balance
So blessings be

Laying On of Hands/Reiki treatments

The Minister laid both hands on each person's head, and say:
M: I lay hands on you in the Name of the Mother Goddess asking her that your body and spirit be made whole, that you be granted the victory of wellness and peace that will empower you to serve her.
Person: Amen.

Members who do not come forward pray silently for those who do come forward.
At the completion of the laying of hands the people who came forward return to their seats.

Closing blessing

M: Go forth into this broken and hurting world with the blessing of the Mother Goddess Go forth and bring healing with you wherever you go!

C : So be it

Music is played

Parade for Religions of the World

this includes indigenous groups as well...not just christian based religions....

www.protectreligions.org/index.php

Demonstration and Parade for Preservation of Religions of the World during Papal Visit to United Nations (& Yankee Stadium) in April 2008

protectreligions.org

1) United Nations, April 18th (Fri), 2008, 10AM - 1PM (Parade from UN to Gandhi Statue at Union Square Park)

2) Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York City, April 20th (Sun), 2008, 1PM - 4PM

Context:

Religion is the one of the most potent forces shaping world affairs. This has always been the case, but it is particularly true right now. Much of the charity as well as the strife in the world today is inspired by religion.

When religion can be such a force for love, compassion and spirituality, why is it also such a cause of strife and war? One specific aspect of some religions is the root cause of the problems: exclusive truth claims which teach that other religions are false and have to be eradicated through conversion and even killings.

Rabbi Harold Kushner summarized the "Only my religion is right" phenomenon as:

"There's a sense that in order for me to be right, everyone who disagrees with me is wrong. It makes religious interfaith cooperation more difficult. If I believe that, I have to believe that other people's religions are worthless, invalid."

"You have to understand that religion is not about getting information about God. Religion is about community. The primary purpose is not to get us to heaven but to put us in touch with other people. I can have fierce loyalty to my family without denigrating other people's family. I can have fierce loyalty to my own religion without denigrating other people's religion. In the same way, my neighbor can say that his wife is the most wonderful woman in the world. I can take that as a statement of love, not fact."

Diversity is the rule of the creation. Only in diversity can the human mind survive. Such diverse religions as the Hinduism, Zoroastrians, the Baha'i, Gnostics, Romuva, Druids, Slavic and Wiccans, the indigenous religions of Africa, Americas and Australia; Buddhism and Jainism and the ancient and subtle I-Kuan Tao, all are faces of a grand prism expressing their understanding of creator and his creation that unites every human being, nay every creature and the creation itself.

But a great amount of this diversity was destroyed and continues to be destroyed by religions professing exclusive access to the mind of God and labeling all other spiritual traditions as evil. Though there are agreements and disagreements among religious philosophies, a very few religious groups express their intolerance to the extent of destroying other religions in order to establish their exclusivist truth claims beliefs. The degree of violence and hate perpetrated by such religions during last two centuries has been colossal in the history of mankind. Mahatma Gandhi called the religious conversions conducted by missionaries who convert and spread hate as the deadliest poison that ever sapped the fountain of truth.

During World Congress for Preservation of Religious Diversity in 2001, Swami Dayananda Saraswati said that the ancient religions of the world have become like endangered species. However, he said, unlike the endangered species, we can confer and therefore come together to find out ways and means to see that diverse religious traditions are saved. Conferences held by organizations such as ICCSUS, World Congress of Ethnic Religions (WCER) are helping to bring together traditions across the world. The Papal visit to United Nations provides the cultures of the world a great opportunity to bring international attention to the threat of religious exclusivism and its consequences for the world religions and humanity.

What is being planned? The plan is to do a Demonstration and a Parade during Pope's visit to UN on April 18th (10AM - 1PM) honoring native cultures of the world and highlighting each culture that was destroyed and the atrocities committed. The parade will include banners, posters and dramatizations, prayers. The parade will start at United Nations and will proceed through the middle of Manhattan in New York City and end at Mahatma Gandhi Statue at Union Square. We also plan to meet United Nations Secretary General to present our case. The message is not against Christianity, but against the practice of intolerance under the mask of exclusive faith claim which happens to be the root cause. We plan to highlight the works of eminent thinkers such as Mahatma Gandhi who stood against religions conversions and intolerance. Mahatma Gandhi, who is greatly revered in the West stood for brotherhood among religions. (Note: Similar demonstration and parade will also be held in front of Yankee Stadium, New York on April 20th, 1PM-4PM).

Why is this important? History showed to us that change never happens by itself. It requires a collective and determined action to bring about that change. Today, most conversions activities are planned, executed and supported by funds from the West, particularly the United States. Many times they are contributed by unwitting church goers who have little idea as to what their contributions are causing. The Roman Catholic Church along with various Protestant and charismatic groups are the prime movers of the global conversion enterprise. Media management by the Church promotes the image that missionary activity simply is spreading a gospel of love and compassion to the unfortunate peoples of the world. There is no public voice for the victim's story.

Why now? The pope's visit to UN attracts worldwide attention, and we plan to use this occasion to present the victim's side of the effects of missionary activity. Through this demonstration and parade, we plan to bring international attention to the relentless onslaught of religious conversion activity, what it has done and continues to do to the cultures of the world. Our goal is to create a counter discussion to the whole missionary activity, to raise awareness that this activity has a dark side.

Who is organizing this activity? The initiative to hold a demonstration and parade was started by a small group of individuals representing various native cultures. The word spread around the world through internet which resulted in tremendous response from various native culture groups around the world. This is sponsored by 'World Congress of Ethnic Religions'.

What you can do?

Join Demo/Parade: We earnestly request the various cultures of the world to take part in the Demonstration and Parade to present their case. This is a rare and unique opportunity that should not be missed because it gives exposure to World community the need for preserving all the cultures of the World. Register at protectreligions.org

Sacred Space

I want to create a sacred place of worship for pagans...a temple with weekly spiritual meetings...like they have in temple/church. Don't necessarily wish to create a dogmatic system of worship, but simply host a place where folks can gather, raise energy, meditate, chant/pray, and worship together. The main reason I am currently training as an Interfaith Minister (legal benefits)

Maybe even offer once a week pagan basic classes for those interested who are new comers or even invite guest speakers...

Any ideas on funding for such a project...I would like a small townhouse to get the idea going...

I have plans and the blueprint of my idea already...but I need funding for a place...and I also need to find out if there is an interest in such a thing..

I want to make this happen mostly because we as pagans often depend on covens to allow us to enter...and someone's generous space or rent a room for things. I want a place where we can do things regularly and not just on sabbats...

Here's a basic idea:

weekly pagan services (for lack of a better word) Please if anyone can come up with a word for it..please do so
full moon rituals
weekly 101 classes in wicca
healing circles
Sabbat celebrations
psychic development classes
spiritual counseling (I have over 25 years as a substance abuse therapist - licensed!!)

Services are free but I would ask for donations to maintain the place...just like they do with regular church/

I want to apply for funding so I can afford to open a place...

I would charge for therapy and the psychic development classes

Any feedback?

What can I do to create $$$ to make this happen?????

there is several ways to do depending on what you need to shield.
My fav is the mirror shield that you set up within your self and when someone hits you with something they only see them selves. It gives them back whatever they throw, it scares them and most of the time they are confused. It takes metation and time practicing. You can set up one side of yourself or a full body mirror. The key is knowing and awarenessof perception of the few moments before the attack.. then you for sure have the shield in full force.
your fellow warrior goddess :), lovin you Star

Hekate - Hecate

Hekate Gets Around!

The only Goddess powerful enough to travel the three worlds: heaven, earth and underworld, She's a 'can-do' Lady. This tri-aspected Goddess was known to not only the ancient Greeks, but the Celts and Egygtians as well. Yes, worshippers carried icons of her no doubt as the ancient Greeks travelled west across Europe. This transcending of territorial considerations helped to provide some unity between the warring tribes in Western Europe and the Isles. The Celts found resonance between their tri-aspected Brigit, and Hekate, finding her Mystery to be the same.

''Her torch of lunar fire, serpent of immortality and knife of midwifery imbued her with primal power, especially in Greek, Egyptian and Celtic cultures,'' so informs a statuary site. There is some speculation that Hekate's origins began as the Egyptian midwife-Goddess Hequit, Heket, or Kekat, who in turn evolved from the heq or tribal matriarch of pre-dynastic Egypt: a wise-woman in command of all the hekau or "mother's words of power." This theory is put forth by Barbara Gordon Walker, but some other scholars question it for the lack of proof. However, I've seen other scholars declare Heket, the daughter of the sun-god Re, was known as the 'Eye of Re' and 'Mother of the gods'. There could well be a connection between Heket and Hekate.

''Heqet is the midwife of Netjer, presiding over all births and particularly those of royal parentage, as witnessed in paintings in tombs and temples,'' according to an Egyptian site. However there is a fascinating Egyptian concept called Heka, which means "Magical Speech", embodying the concept that there is power in the spoken word - power which can be used for good or ill.

If there is no connection at all, I'd say this is a fairly unusual coincidence for One so powerful in sorcery. 'Heka' means 'magical speech' in Egyptian while 'Hekate' means 'influence from afar' in Greek). Can it be possible that one of the means of the 'influence from afar' IS 'magical speech'?

Hekate has the ability to travel between the worlds because Zeus bestowed unto Her a portion of the Earth and of the Sea, for Her ruling. However She makes the underworld her home by choice for she could reside anywhere. Zeus also called upon Her for her assistance, in helping Demeter to get Her daughter back from Hades and out of the Underworld.

According to the Homeric Hymn to Demeter, Hades abducted Persephone, the daughter of Zeus & Demeter, & forced her to live with him in the underworld. Hades secretly gave her some pomegranate seed, so that she could never permanently stay in the light. Demeter was horrified at this action, and entrusted Persephone to Hecate:

"Then bright-coiffed Hekate came near to them [Demeter & Persephone on Persephone's return from Hades], and often did she embrace the daughter of holy Demeter: and from that time the lady Hekate was minister and companion to Persephone."
- Homeric Hymn to Demeter 436-440

Thus it is she earns her reputation not only as a fearsome Goddess, but a caring one as well. Able to transverse all regions, Hekate has control over all the powers of nature and the secrets it contains. Hekate also is a protectress, not only of those who seek Her out, but also of sailors and those in travel.

Diana Lucifera (Diana Lucina), bearing the torch
Hekate was known to the Romans as Diana Lucifera. Note the poet Publius Vergilius Maro says:

". . . threefold Hecate, triple-faced maiden Diana."
- Virgil, Aeneid 4.511

Although the Roman envisioning in the statue above depicts a singular Hekate/Diana, most of the time Hekate is depicted in triple statues with triple faces:

"You see Hecate’s faces turned in three directions so she can protect the triple crossroads.
–Ovid Fasti 1.141, a Latin Epic C1st BC - C1st AD

Hecterion Pillar
In later times the Triple Hekate took on the form of a pillar called a Hecterion. One such statue depicts her with three heads and six arms, bearing three torches and three sacred emblems - the Key, Rope, and Dagger. With her key to the underworld, Hekate unlocks the secrets of the occult mysteries and knowledge of the afterlife. The rope, which is also a scourge or cord, symbolizes the umbilical cord of rebirth and renewal. The Dagger is related to the curved knife that cuts delusion and is a symbol of power and judgment.

At the crossroads, Hekate aids in birth with that knife of midwifery, the soul's transition from the nether regions into Birth, Zeus having made her a nurse to the young, so she protects new life. This could be an Egyptian Hekit connection, for She, too is midwife.

Multi-tasking, as another of her functions as Keeper of the Crossroads, Hekate is also the Queen of the Dead, who guides souls of women that have passed out of this life, into the Underworld, to rest and prepare for their next incarnation. (Hermes is the guide for men.) This is a very important aspect of Hecate for without Her, souls would be wandering aimlessly. It is Her torch and the light it shines that calls the passed souls unto Her.

At all major Rites of Passage, Hekate is there. So thus it is, this 'Can-Do' Lady assists us in all aspects of our lives, in every Mysterious fashion.

November 12 thru December 23
six-week on-line course
"Inner Compass: Finding and Holding the Vision"
In the ancient, pre-Christian Goddess traditions of Europe and the Middle East, the earth is sacred: a living being that all of us are part of. Witches, shamans, and Pagans draw on the balance of life for knowledge, renewal and healing. But right now, at this crucial moment in time, that balance is threatened by global warming, social and environmental breakdown. Our society is faced with a huge challenge-the necessity for fundamental changes in our way of life. Each of us alive today is here for a purpose. We each have a unique role to play in bringing about that transformation-our own gifts, our own vision. And the earth needs us each to be our most creative, compassionate and powerful self.
How do we find that vision, our purpose for being here, our true work? How do we step up to the challenge, and how can we hold a vision through times of adversity, and find the courage to overcome fears, blocks and challenges?
For some of us, it's hard to see the vision clearly. Others may need support to take new steps and dare new paths. Some of us may already be on the road, but need help to sustain our energy and enthusiasm when obstacles loom and setbacks appear. The greatest gifts are often found after hard climbs on twisted paths.
Magic, "the art of changing consciousness at will," offers us tools. In this six week online course, Starhawk will guide us through a process of discernment and reflection, to find and identify our big vision, and develop the grounded spiritual practice that can be our base as we dare to make it real.
Using readings, meditations, directed exercises, journaling and discussion, we'll find the inner compass that can guide our choices, connect to the allies that can support us, find the courage to face challenges and overcome fears, and the strength to take our vision out into expression and action. When we put our lives toward the service of the sacred, powerful allies and great powers of regeneration and renewal work through us.
Course presented by Maybe Logic Academy.
Cost: $135

Question about Shamanic Wounds/ Invocation Side Effects

My associates and I just performed one hell of a public ritual at Pagan Pride Day yesterday. I'm actually going to be hurting for a few days after this. We performed two separate invocations, one to Magna Mater and one to Babalon. I was responsible for the invocation of Magna Mater and my best friend was responsible for the invocation of Babalon. We had the ritual spaced out with some theatrical pieces to calm the energy a bit (if it had that effect I didn't notice it because the energy of this ritual was omnipresent and fierce).

After the ritual I lost vision in my left eye. It started off as being just a blurry spot but after about 20 minutes I nearly completely lost vision in the entire eye. It wasn't dark patches or anything like that, just blurring and then complete absence of vision. I was told to inquire a bit about Shamanic work and wounds so thats what I'm doing. Anybody know anything about it?

I later found out that it was the precursor to a migraine. I rarely if ever get migraines. This one was sound induced. When put into a silent room the headache completely went away but when exposed to even miniscule amounts of sound I was in agony. Trance work is nothing new to me by a long shot and I have experienced ill effects from interrupted trance work but I was not interrupted during the invocation.

So does anyone have any thoughts?
~*Gen*~

The Fairy Mythology

The Fairy Mythology

Illustrative of the Romance and Superstition of Various Countries.
by Thomas Keightley

[1870]
ORIENTAL ROMANCE [a]
Persian Romance

The pure and simple religion of ancient Persia, onginating, it is said, with a pastoral and
hunting race among the lofty bills of Aderbijan, or, as others think, in the elevated plains
of Bactria, in a region where light appears in all its splendour, took as its fundamental
principle the opposition between light and darkness, and viewed that opposition as a
conflict. Light was happiness; and the people of Iran, the land of light, were the favourites
of Heaven; while those of Turan, the gloomy region beyond the mountains to the north,
were its enemies. In the realms of supernal light sits enthroned Ormuzd, the first-born of
beings; around him are the six Amshaspands, the twenty-eight Izeds, and the countless
myriads of Ferohers. [b] In the opposite kingdom of darkness
Aherman is supreme, and his throne is encompassed by the six Arch-Deevs, and the
numerous hosts of inferior Deevs. Between these rival powers ceaseless warfare prevails;
but at the end the prince of darkness will be subdued, and peace and happiness prevail
beneath the righteous sway of Ormuzd.
From this sublime system of religion probably arose the Peri- [c] or Fairy-system of
modern Persia; and thus what was once taught by sages, and believed by monarchs, has
shared the fate of everything human, and has sunk from its pristine rank to become the
material and the machinery of poets and romancers. The wars waged by the fanatical
successors of the Prophet, in which literature was confounded with idolatry, have deprived
us of the means of judging of this system in its perfect form; and in what has been written
respecting the Peries and their country since Persia has received the law of Mohammed,
the admixture of the tenets and ideas of Islam is evidently perceptible. If, however,
Orientalists be right in their interpretation of the name of Artaxerxes' queen, Parisatis, as
Pari-zadeh [d] (Peri-born), the Peri must be coeval with the religion of Zoroaster.
The Peries and Deevs of the modern Persians answer to the good and evil Jinn of the
Arabs, of whose origin and nature we shall presently give an account. The same Suleymans
ruled over them as over the Jinn, and both alike were punished for disobedience. It is
difficult to say which is the original; but when we recollect in how much higher. a state of
culture the Persians were than the Arabs, and how well this view accords with their ancient
system of religion, we shall feel inclined to believe that the Arabs were the borrowers, and
that by mingling with the Persian system ideas derived from the Jews, that one was formed
by them which is now the common property of all Moslems.

In like manner we regard the mountains of Kaf, the abode alike of Jinn and of Peries and
Deevs, as having belonged originally to Persian geography. The fullest account of it
appears in the Persian romance of Hatim Tai [e] the hero of which often visited its regions.
From this it would seem that this mountain-range was regarded as, like that of the ancient
Greek cosmology, surrounding the flat circular earth like a ring, or rather like the bulwarks
of a ship, outside of which flowed the ocean; while some Arab authorities make it to lie
beyond, and to enclose the ocean as well as the earth. [f] It is said to be composed of
green chrysolite, the reflection of which gives its greenish tint to the sky. According to
some, its height is two thousand English miles.
Jinnestan is the common appellation of the whole of this ideal region. Its respective
empires were divided into many kingdoms, containing numerous provinces and cities.
Thus in the Peri-realms we meet with the luxuriant province of Shad-u-kam (Pleasure and
Delight), with its magnificent capital Juherabad (Jewel-city), whose two kings solicited the
aid of Caherman against the Deevs [g] and also the stately Amberabad (Amber-city), and
others equally splendid. The metropolis of the Deev-empire is named Ahermanabad
(Aherman's city); and imagination has lavished its stores in the description of the
enchanted castle, palace, and gallery of the Deev monarch, Arzshenk.

The Deevs and Peries wage incessant war with each other. Like mankind, they are subject
to death, but after a much longer period of existence; and, though far superior to man in
power, they partake of his sentiments and passions.
We are told that when the Deevs in their wars make, prisoners of the Peries, they shut
them up in iron cages, and hang them from the tops of the highest trees, exposed to every
gaze and to every chilling blast. Here their companions visit them, and bring them the
choicest odours to feed on; for the ethereal Peri lives on perfume, which has moreover the
property of repelling the cruel Deevs, whose malignant nature is impatient of fragrance.

When the Peries are unable to withstand their foes, they solicit the aid of some mortal
hero. Enchanted arms and talismans enable him to cope with the gigantic Deevs, and he is
conveyed to Jinnestan on the back of some strange and wonderful animal. His adventures
in that country usually furnish a wide field for poetry and romance to expatiate in.

The most celebrated adventurer in Jinnestan was Tahmuras, surnamed Deev-bend (Deev-
binder), [i] one of the ancient kings of Persia. The Peries sent him a splendid embassy, and
the Deevs, who dreaded him, despatched another. Tahmuras, in doubt how to act,
consults the wonderful bird Seemurgh, [j] who speaks all languages, and whose knowledge
embraces futurity. She advises him to aid the Peries, warns him of the dangers he has to
encounter, and discloses his proper line of action. She further offers to convey him to
Jinnestan, and plucks some feathers from her breast, with which the Persian monarch
adorns his helmet.

Mounted on the Seemurgh, and bracing on his arm the potent buckler of Jan-ibn-Jan. [k]
Tahmuras crosses the abyss impassable to unaided mortality. The vizier Imlan, who had
headed the Deev embassy, deserting his original friends, had gone over to Tahmuras, and
through the magic arts of the Deev, and his own daring valour, the Persian hero defeats
the Deev-king Arzshenk. He next vanquishes a Deev still more fierce, named Demrush,
who dwelt in a gloomy cavern, surrounded by piles of wealth plundered from the
neighbouring realms of Persia and India. Here Tahmuras finds a fair captive, the Peri
Merjan, [l] whom Demrush had carried off, and whom her brothers, Dal Peri and Milan
Shah Peri, had long sought in vain. He chains the Deev in the centre of the mountain, and
at the suit of Merjan hastens to attack another powerful Deev named Houndkonz; but
here, alas! fortune deserts him, and, maugre his talismans and enchanted arms, the
gallant Tahmuras falls beneath his foe.

The great Deev-bend, or conqueror of Deevs, of the Shah-Nameh [m] is the illustrious
Roostem. In the third of his Seven Tables or adventures, on his way to relieve the Shah Ky-
Caoos, whom the artifice of a Deev had led to Mazenderan, where he was in danger of
perishing, he encounters in the dark of the night a Deev named Asdeev, who stole on him
in a dragon's form as he slept. Twice the hero's steed, Reksh, awoke him, but each time
the Deev vanished, and Roostem was near slaying his good steed for giving him a false
alarm. The third time be saw the Deev and slew him after a fearful combat. He then
pursued his way to the cleft in the mountain in which abode the great Deev Sefeed, or
White Deev. The seventh Table brought him to where lay an army of the Deev Sefeed's
Deevs, commanded by Arzshenk, whose head he struck off, and put his troops to flight. At
length he reached the gloomy cavern of the Deev Sefeed himself whom be found asleep,
and scorning the advantage he awoke him, and after a terrific combat deprived him also of
life.
Many years after, when Ky-Khosroo sat on the throne, a wild ass of huge size, his skin like
the sun, and a black stripe along his back, appeared among the royal herds and destroyed
the horses. It was supposed to be the Deev Akvan, who was known to haunt an adjacent
spring. Roostem went in quest of him; on the fourth day he found him and cast his noose
at him, but the Deev vanished. He re-appeared; the hero shot at him, but he became again
invisible. Roostem then let Reksh graze, and laid him to sleep by the fount. As he slept,
Akvan came and flew up into the air with him; and when he awoke, he gave him his choice
of being let fall on the mountains or the sea. Roostem secretly chose the latter, and to
obtain it he pretended to have heard that he who was drowned never entered paradise.
Akvan thereupon let him fall into the sea, from which he escaped, and returning to the
fount, he there met and slew the Deev. Roostem's last encounter with Deeva was with
Akvan's son, Berkhyas, and his army, when he went to deliver Peshen from the dry well in
which he was confined by Afrasiab. He slew him and two-thirds of his troops. Berkhyas is
described as being a mountain in size, his face black, his body covered with hair, his neck
like that of a dragon, two boar's tusks from his mouth, his eyes wells of blood, his hair
bristling like needles, his height 140 ells, his breadth 17, pigeons nestling in his snaky
locks. Akvan had had a head like an elephant.

In the Hindoo-Persian Bahar Danush (Garden of Knowledge) of Ynyet-ullah, written in
India A.D. 165O, [n] we find the following tale of the Peries, which has a surprising
resemblance to European legends hereafter to be noticed. [o]
[a] see D'Herhelot, Richardson's Dissertation, Ouseley's Persian Miscellanies, Wahl in the
Mines de l'Orient, Lane, Thousand and One Nights, Forbes, Hathn Tai, etc., etc.

[b] Ormuzd employed himself for three thousand years in making the heavens and their
celestial inhabitants, the Ferohers, which are the angels and the unembodied souls of all
intelligent beings. All nature is filled with Ferohers, or guardian angels, who watch over its
various departments, and are occupied in performing their various tasks for the benefit of
mankind.--Erskine on the Sacred Books and Religion of the Parsis, in the Transactions of
the Literary Society of Bombay, vol. ii. p. 318. The Feroher bears in fact a very strong
resemblance to the Genius of the ancient Roman religion: see our Mythology of Greece and
Italy.

The Seemurgh probably belongs to the original mythology of Persia. for she appears in the
early part of the Shah Nameh. When Zal was born to Sam Neriman, his hair proved to be
white. The father regarding this as a proof of Deev origin, resolved to expose him, and
sent him for that purpose to Mount Elburz. Here the poor babe lay crying and sucking his
finger. til he was found by the Seemurgh, who abode on the summit of Elburz, as one was
looking for food for her young ones. But God put pity into her heart, and see took him to
her nest and reared him with her young. As he grew up, the caravans that passed by,
spread the fame of his beauty and his strength, and a vision having, informed Sam that he
was his son, he set out for Elburz to claim him from the Seemurgh. It was with grief that
Zal quitted the maternal nest. The Seemurgh, when parting with her foster-son, gave him
one of her feathers, and bade him, whenever he should be in trouble or danger, to cast it
into the fire, and he would have proof of her power; and she charged him at the same time
strictly never to forget his nurse.

Pagan Ascension - a new yahoo discussion group

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/paganascension/

This group is for the discussion of beliefs, methods, and practices related to the Ascension Paradigm (also known as the New Age movement), as experienced by those who primarily identify as Neo-Pagans.

Topics that are appropriate include sacred geometry, DNA activation / recoding, ETs, channelling, Ascension, Light Body activation, merkaba, angels, vibrational healing, interstellar astral travel, etc - however they will be approached from the perspectives of Pagans.

There is a growing interest in many aspects and theories surrounding the Ascension Paradigm within the Pagan community, but many do not feel that they resonate with the New Age context. This group will serve as a platform for interested Pagans to gather and discuss Ascension practices in an environment that is more familiar and comfortable. How these practices and beliefs fit into the NeoPagan paths will also be a consistently revisted theme.

Interested parties are encouraged to read "Ascension Magick" by Christopher Penczak for a fantastic introduction to the Ascension Paradigm for Pagans, including many meditations and practical exercises.

This list will serve as a safe-zone for Pagans to discuss New Age-elements that often are met with intolerance in other mainstream Pagan forums.

Need material for creative spiritual project

I have some plans to collect spiritual material from all types of spiritual paths...

Here are some of the ideas....not totally set in cement...but here goes:

Writing a book of international/ intefaith prayers for various occasions...I'll put a post on it.

And a Interfaith ritual book...maybe with pictures?

Interviewing people on their specific spiritual path... Maybe a book and call it words of faith from across the world? What do you guys think?

If anyone feels like being part of this project contact me...or post your stuff here.

I'll like a collection of favorite prayers, meditations, rituals....or talk to me about your specific spiritual path..whether its agnostic, pagan, buddhist, christian, Islamic...etc

Whatever you write I'll try to keep it in its original style...include your pen or real name. Thanks

Ro

I know in many tribes folks get bashed for being themselves at times.

I am not the world's perfect moderator. But I am fair and I am also not afraid to make sure things don't go nuts.

Have no fear of your postings. Understand many folks are learning, sharing what they learned and equally expanding,

We will naturally not all agree...but as long as I am here...folks will be free to post knowing I am around to do my part as moderator.

No one owns Wicca, paganism...etc. As far as I'm concerned all our voices matter.

Share with peace of mind

Pagan Honesty Time

What is your issue with the pagan community?

Feel free to admit what you don't like...and of course balance with positive if you like.

I find many are afraid to share...cause let's face the pagan community can be fill of complete "STUCK-UPS" who act is if they were born with a damm broomstick and book of shadows.

The fact is, even if you were a so called "generational" witch...which are very few and far inbetween, you still had to learn from someone....

Many folks did not go to Hoggwards School of Magick. Many of us are book trained...coven visitors and only really exposed to a few brands of Wicca if anything,

Because many folks are intimidiated by the self-initiated Elders...or Coven attending types...they keep to themselves and are afraid of "being judged" Or labeled unknowledgeable.

But here's something interesting....most folks add or subtract what they learn...cause at the end of the day...Wicca is a very personal path

Feel free to rant, vent and share your hardships if any...no need to name names...cause we all know how tiny the pagan community is...and goddess forbid we get into a witch war.

But do share what its been like....

I have never been one to follow visions until recently when I met a sprit in my dreams... (but that's another subject) But I'm interested to hear what others might reanslate to what I experienced.
In this dream, I was in a field, near the edge of an overgrown wooded area. There was a rustling in the brush and a sound that I thought at first was a child whimpering. I got down on my knees and encouraged what was in the brush out and was surprised for a moment to see a white fox. But when it looked in my eyes, I knew it just wanted comfort so I extended my hands to it and encouraged it forward. At first it hesitated, lowering it's head but it's tail wagged slightly and in a sudden rush, ran towards me like it knew me. Just as it almost reached me, I opened my arms wider to catch it but when it leaped at me it went into me, into my stomach and I felt it turn around inside me, curl in a ball and with a sigh, fall asleep.
I woke at that moment, but this feeling of perfect peace followed me for days.
give me your opiion, tell me what you think this means. I have only had a few experiences like this and would really like to know what others think.

This tribe includes all things magickal..pagan..wicca and more..it is not a single source...but a place for all shades to combine and share and inspire.

Please do not let this tribe die from emptiness and non-sharing. I notice the same few souls post...

I encourage and strongly urge you all to take a risk and share your wisdom...for in sharing our own knowledge deepens....and grows even more.

Freely post without judging yourself...or without fear...all discussion are welcome that allow our spirits to grow and expand beyond our comfortable horizons....

Wicca is an ever evolving field...the more we share the more we grow and learn.

There is no right way of doing things...

And some might not agree...however...this is why wicca has so many branches...cause some do not agree

So have no fear...post...share...ask...and be free to speak

Witch Lessons

Witches Lesson 1

One of the most meaningful reasons for meditation is to focus yourself. Not only will it relax you, but it will quiet your mind, allowing you to proceed on your path. Meditate before any ceremony, ritual or spell; this is why we call meditation, STEP ONE. How do you meditate? There are many well-known methods. Included in this introductory lesson is a very effective beginner method of mediation. Following lessons will include advanced forms such as elemental and astral.

You will need: One large white candle ( use this small candle every time you meditate. When it runs out, buy a new one and do the same) Matches or a lighter
Meditation Ritual- Light the candle and sit in front of it in any position you feel comfortable. Breathe deep; fill your lungs with air. Release. Repeat this seven times. Look into the candle flame and clear your mind. Take another three deep breaths. Hum Lightly. Focus on looking into the flame. ( If this hurts your eyes, look a bit below it) Keep humming. You should feel your body relaxing. Soon you will be in a tranced state. ( Some describe this as a very relaxed state, hypnotic state, or floating free.) One you have reached this trance or relaxed state of mind, you are ready to proceed with the ceremony, ritual, spell or maybe even to face the day.

Self-Dedication - The first step in learning the craft is Self-Dedication. This, in itself, will allow energies to focus on you. Your body S full of psychic energy which you may already use, and Self-Dedication will open up the earth energies of air, fire, water, and earth (known as elementals) to you so you may use them as your own. Each energy that you can use is a tool, and the more tools you can use, the stronger your magick.
Self-Dedication and initiation focuses the Deity and astral energies to you, while Self-Dedication allows you the ability to reach out and draw the energies on your own.
Read this ritual over and memorize it so that you can recite it without having to stop and remember what is next. The reason why some memorization is important is the effectiveness of the ritual is directly related to your ability to fully focus on your task. Interrupting a ritual to look up the instructions can easily distract you and divert your energies elsewhere, hence defeating your purpose.
You will need- three white candles, one red candle, matches or lighter, sweet smelling incense, a cup with water, a quiet place.
Setup- This must be done on the night of the full moon. Place the three white candles in the form of a triangle. Place the red candle in the middle. Place the water to the left side of the triangle of candles. Place the incense to the right of the triangle of candles.

SELF-DEDICATION CEREMONY
Perform STEP ONE ( Meditation)
Light the white tip candle and envision white light shooting up from the earth into the candle. (Visualize this as best you can. Later lessons will help you develop this ability.) Light remaining white candles while saying your name. Light Incense and walk around the candles while saying " On this night I come before the elements asking for the guardians to arise." "Open the path. Open the gates. Open the way. I am here." ( If you cant walk around the candles, simply rotate the incense in a circle around them) Light the red candle. Say why you have chosen Witchcraft or the way of magick. (It is important to be honest with this step. Do not simply state that you want to be a Witch. Do some serious soul searching and put your heart into it. You can keep it to one sentence or prepare an elaborate speech.) Stand in the form of a pentagram. ( Arms at shoulder height, legs spread slightly.)and say, " Earth Mother I invoke you." Stay in this position for a few moments. Kneel before the candles and take the water. Pass it through the incense and over the candles and say, " Bless me Earth Mother." " With this water charge your energies inside." ( This will purify the water) Put the cup of water down and place your palms over it while envisioning a white light coming from the earth, filling the water. Say: " As to Earth, as to me, may this water purify me." Hold the cup high over your head and say: " Open the path Open the gates. Open the way. I am here." Drink the charged water. Put out the red candle and say: " Great Earth Mother blessed be." " I am charged, so mote it be." Let the candles burn themselves out.

Tools - Practicing the craft requires a small gallery of tools. They will aid you on your path. The tools must be charged with energies from you and the elemental energies. Charge your tools only after properly channeling earth "elemental" energies through Self-Dedication. You will learn all of the various uses of these tools ( and more will be added) in later lessons.

The tools you will need are as follows:
1. Athame or Ritual Knife- this may be of any type you choose, preferably at least four inches in length.
2. Incense Burner- this may be of any type you choose.
3. Chalice or cup- any type
4. Bowl or Cauldron- must be black, painted is fine.
5.Book of Shadows- a blank book in which you will write all of your spells, rituals, and ceremonies.

To charge these tools, you will need the following:
1. Modeling paint & brush or something to scratch symbols into your tools.
2. Incense
3. Salt
4. White candle
5. Black Candle
6. Matches or Lighter
7. Herbs ( to be specified with each tool)
Charging the Athame - You will need Wormwood herb. (can be found in most health stores or any occult shop)

Setup - Place the black and white candle next to each other, a few inches apart. Place the cup to the left and the incense to the right. Place the paint anywhere. This charging must be done on the night of the full moon and after Self-Dedication.

Charging the Athame- Place the Athame anywhere under the candles.
Perform STEP ONE ( meditation). Light the white candle and say " Earth Mother the I Invoke." Light the black candle and say " Blessed Be" Light the incense and place the salt in the cup while saying "Earth Mother charge this water" Place your hands palms down, over the cup. Imagine a white light coming up from the earth into the cup. Hold your knife high above your head while saying " I call upon the elements of Air, Fire, Water and Earth" Place the tip of the knife in the cup of charged water while saying " Be blessed to Water and Earth" Pass the knife through the incense and candle flames while saying " Be blessed to Air and Fire" Hold the knife close to you. Visualize you and the knife glowing white while saying " Be charged creature of life" Mix the wormwood and paint. Paint a pentagram on the handle of the knife. Place your hands, palms down, over the symbol while saying "Earth Mother charge your symbol. So Mote it be!" Take the knife out into the rays of the full moon. Always drain the charged water from the cup onto the earth. The knife is charged.
Charing The Chalice - You will need some Basil herb for this charging.
Setup- Charging the chalice should be done during the waxing to full moon. It can be done immediately after you charge your Athame. Follow the same set up as you did for the Athame charging. Place the chalice anywhere under the candles.

Charging the Chalice Ritual
Perform STEP ONE ( meditation) Light the white candle while saying " Earth Mother thee i invoke" Light the black candle while saying " Blessed Be." Light the Incense. Put salt into the cup and with the tip of the athame draw a pentagram in the water while saying " As salt with water, I purify thee." " May this charge the chalice to the elements of Earth and Water." Visualize the chalice glowing white. Pass the cup through the incense and candles while saying " May this charge this chalice to the elements of Air and Fire" Hold the chalice over your head while saying " Earth Mother bless this chalice in your honor" Mix the basil with the paint. Draw a pentagram on the surface while saying "So Mote it Be!" Take the chalice outside and pour the charged water onto the earth. The chalice is charged.
Charging the Incense Burner - you will need- Nutmeg herb for this charging. (This charging should be done between the waxing to full moon.)setup - same as other chargings.

Charging the Incense burner ritual:
Perform STEP ONE. Light the white candle while saying;"Earth Mother thee I invoke" Light the black candle while saying:'Blessed Be." Light the Incense. Place salt in the chalice and put the tip of the athame into the water. Draw a pentagram in the water while saying: "As blade to water, salt to earth, bless this chalice, giving birth." Visualize the chalice glowing white. Sprinkle the incense burner with water from the chalice while saying:'With earth and water, bless this creature of air." Pass the burner through the candle flame while saying:"Fire bless this creature of Air." Hold the burner high above your head while saying: "Air fill this creature." Visualize the burner glowing white. Mix the nutmeg and paint. Paint a pentagram on the burner while saying: " Earth Mother bless this piece of art in your name." "So mote it be!" Take the incense burner outside and let the incense rise to the skies for a moment. (always drain the water from the chalice onto the earth.) The Incense burner is charged.

BOWL OR CAULDRON CHARGING You will need wormwood herb for this charging.( This charging should be done between the waxing and full moon) Set up-same as other chargings.

Bowl or cauldron charging ritual-
Perform STEP ONE
Light the white candle while saying;" Earth Mother thee i Invoke." Light the black candle while saying; "Blessed Be" Place salt into chalice, athame tip in water. Draw a pentagram while saying: " As blade to water, salt to earth, bless this chalice, giving birth." Visualize the chalice glowing white. Pour the water from the chalice into the bowl or cauldron while saying; " Charge this creature elements of all." "Bring to it your loving call." Pass the bowl through the incense and candles. Hold it above your head. Visualize the bowl glowing white while saying; "Earth Mother let this be your eyes." Mix the wormwood and paint and paint a pentagram on the bowl while saying: "So mote it be!" Take the bowl outside and drain the water onto the earth. The cauldron is charged.

Book of Shadows-
The Book of Shadows does not need to be` charged in the same manner as your other tools. It is simply a blank book of any type you choose, in which you write all of your ceremonies, rituals, spells, and results. Begin your book by recording your experiences through the Self-Dedication process, meditation and charging your tools. Continue your journal in your BOS with each practice of the craft. Your next entry should be about wax and water. The BOS is an important tool as you learn about and explore the craft. You will find some spells and rituals work better than others. The best way to find out which techniques work well for you is to keep track of them. Some important information to record is the time of day, phase of the moon, weather, emotional state, outside noises, distractions, location, items used, and results. This book will soon develop into a very useful and essential tool.

Wax and Water-
Some say the best readings are done from tarot cards and runes. Directions for these will be discussed in later lessons. For me, however, the wax and water method works best. Though it may take some practice to become very effective, it is a very easy process to learn. This too way my first tool of divination.
You will need- One white candle ( use the same one each time you use this rite, when it runs out get another one and do the same) Match or lighter. Your charged bowl or cauldron.
Wax and Water Rite-

Perform STEP ONE.
Light your candle and state out loud what you need to know. Hold the candle over the bowl of water so the wax drips into the bowl. Watch the wax and look for symbols it might form. When you see one, stop. The drippings may even clearly spell out the answers in letters or numbers. In this case, continue until the letters/numbers stop. After you have a symbol, you must interpret it. ( only you can do this. I can tell you what it means to me, but may mean something different to you.) Simply take the symbol and consider what it means to you. Such as an owl may mean sight, luck, beauty, money, etc. to you. If it spells out letter/numbers, you may not have to do interpreting. Practice this and you should become very effective at it.

(If this is a chalice, present it first to the Lady, then to the Lord, if athame, reverse order. All other instruments use personal preference, but it is courtesy to present them to Her first.)

Presentation for Chalice:

Lady Freya, Keeper of Femininity, bless this chalice. Let it be as Thy cauldron, a vessel of productivity that it may be worthy to dispense Thy bounty. Let it be used in Thy service and in the service of humanity. Let it be so bound that no harm may come of it to any being, but let it rather be an instrument of good-will and understanding; of loving harmony. To Thy sacred self I dedicate this vessel, (name of vessel), that it and I may long be of service to Thee.

Lord Thor, companion to the Lady, champion of the Gods, bless this chalice and keep watch over it. Guard the works which come forth from it, that they ever be in the service of Thee and Thy Lady, that they be of service to humankind, and that they abide by the laws of harmony. To Thee I vow I shall use it for Her sacred purposes, and for no other.

So mote it be.

Presentation for Athame:

Lord Thor, thunderer & hammer wielder, bless this athame. Let it be as the spring rains which fall upon the earth to cause Her to bring forth Her bounty. Let it quicken my hopes and dreams, yet keep them from causing harm. Let it guide them in the harmony of the seasons, bringing forth only good for all. Lord Tho
