I have a three year old "awake" child, who happens to love to watch videos. He's so active, and sleeps so little, that it seems to be the only way he can just mellow down to a lower frequency for a little while. When he needs a brain break, we let him watch something. Unfortunately, we seem to have run low on good things to watch. (You can only watch the same Raffi concert so many times!) My sister sent some horrible "My friends, Tigger and Pooh", which is very obviously a show made for the T.V. crowd. We can't stand it, but he keeps asking for it. This is the kind of garbage i don't want him to spend his energy on. Therefore, i figured i would open up the forum for discussion on really good and positive media. I'm looking, especially, for shows with a positive vibe, no passive agressive talk or action, no name calling, and non-spastic characters. (Can anyone say "Elmo"?)
One that we really love in our household is "Rainbow Spirit". It's a music video that was recorded at the National Rainbow Gathering in Oregon, '97. He also likes Richard Scary's Best Learning songs ever. What do your kids love that resonates positively with you???

Re: "awake" media suggestions please.
Fri, November 23, 2007 - 6:14 PMWe haven't gotten to the media stage yet, but I've imagined watching with my son some of the Hayao Miyazaki anime films. Some of the films are more geared for adults; but a couple, like "My Neighbor Totoro" and "Kiki's Delivery Service" I think would be suitable for a younger pre-school crowd. His anime work is beautiful, with so much of divine Mother Nature represented. Nature spirits are inevitable characters in his films.
