I suggest Sunday, May 18th to discuss a new permitting process. This would be a process for
-individuals
-groups
-venues
to apply for yearly and singleton permits that would cover them, and potentially others under their auspices. The fire department mentioned wanting people to take a class in spotting, fuels and regs, and appropriate fire toys.

May 18th, Sunday
4pm-8pm
5040 SE MIlwaukie Ave
Portland OR

Followed by a spinjam out back/inside if raining.

  • If we really want them to change any laws or regulations a petition should be started. It would be hard to get 300, 400, a thousand, 5 thousand people to actively show up for meetings and meet with the fire department or parks department. But collecting signatures at least says that while these people cant make it this is an issue that concerns a lot of people not just the small group of faces they constantly see.

Now is the time to get your petition put together also. Not a lot of people are going to know about the open flame thing and tonight is going to happen a lot like a normal Sunday night until cops or some other presence shows up. Have a petition for people to sign would 1. give them a warning and a heads up before getting a ticket, and 2. Give them some form of outlet other then just yelling at the police.

My suggestion take your write up of the amendments to the open flam law then add the sentence "I support this amendment." and collect peoples name, signatures, and phone numbers. If you get a good wording of it set up also I can take your petition lay it out in PDF and host it on my web space so people can download copies of it get signatures for you and then mail them to the shed.
    • I think it's a bit too early for people to be supporting and proposed amendment (I wouldn't put my name on any one thing at this point), but I would like to collect contacts, names number emails, how ever we can reach people to be invited to future meetings and or sign a petitioned amendment in the future.
I agree with you that numbers are important.
      See you tonight!

      • short version, yes I agree we should have a way to collect people's information in support... but before a petition is started for any one proposed amendment I think we should just stick with inviting people to the May 18th meeting... and to direct them to this tribe (maybe?) to get conversations started about what's going on.

For the meeting can we have an overhead projector for all those visual learners out there? It just seems that if wording is detailed, having it projected to see might be a good thing.
