Duvetyne
[aka Commando Cloth]
A heavy black cloth, treated with fire proofing material, which is used for blacking out hot lights, windows, making teasers, hiding cables, and hundreds of other uses.
16 oz is the standard thickness for duvetyne in the motion picture industry.

This is what we use on the Playa when carrying water around would be a serious pain in the butt.
Pick-up a yard for yourself, carry it with you, keep it seperate from your fuel / toys.
Do not wash / launder it, as washing can remove the chemicals that make it fire retardant.

I have a large, large, large pile of duvetyne (thanks for the spelling). I would like to push for BLACK duvetyne to become the standard instead of this silly "wet white towel" thing. Or at least listed as an acceptable alternative.

Thanks for the info on where to buy. My supply is really old and well used. I prefer to have my tools extinguished with Duvetyne instead of wet towels so they don't get water all over the wicking. The wet towels are better used to cool skin if it gets over heated from exposure to flame or slightly burned without any open skin damage. Also best for putting out flames if someone lights their hair on fire. Both items have their best uses.

I'm glad you bring up the uses for both duvetyne and a wet towel as I've found good for both of them and I think how they are used is sometimes misunderstood.
