Re: Sword banToday, 5:14 AM
I've just contacted the Home Office about the sword ban and have ascertained the following:
- It is still acceptable to buy and perform with straight bladed swords.
- If you wish to perform with a curved blade, contact Equity (the performer's trade union) for advise over whether you may be exempt for theatrical purposes.
I'd hope it would be pretty easy to argue that what we are doing is theatrical! So just wanted to pass that on - maybe the situation isn't as bleak as we first thought.
Thanks
Helena

Re: Swords ahoy!
Thu, June 5, 2008 - 2:05 AMWhat gets me is that I bought a very sharp hand axe from ebay that was sent through the post and cost pennies.
(We have real fires at home so need an axe, I'm not a maniac).
When I received it, it was obviously an axe as the guy had basically wrapped tape round it with a sticker for the address label. It wasn't confiscated or questioned. BUT I can't buy a bloody piece of pressed metal that's remotely sword shaped that I couldn't even butter bread with!!!!!
Maybe I should try axe dancing in stead.......grumble grumble
