Help!! I want to dance again

I'm chris and have been living in fordham, between ely and newmarket for a couple of years. Have been learning and dancing turkish style bellydance, but my instructor/troupe leader has now moved back to the US. Would love to find some place near me, to dance again. It doesn't have to be turkish, i'm very interested in learning ATS or a similar tribal style. Would love the input!

Tribal Bible sale/auction X-post

How much am I bid?

I bought this years ago from Canada and it cost me then $60 Canadian.
The bottom the spine was slightly damaged in transit but it is not a real problem . It is read but all pages are in good - excellent condition. Small stain (coffee probably) on top of inside cover. That's its' little problems..apart from this how much a people willing to pay for an iconic book? 10% of the sale will go to Just Because. www.justbecause.org.uk

Hello all, I've just received my new dance sandals and they are fantastic, thank you Donna for such a fast delivery & great customer service. I love the satin bag, such a nice touch!!!!

I was finding turning on floors a bit of a night mare and as i tend to dance outside quite a lot this will save my feet too. No worries now, they fit perfectly.

Supper Night

A belated thanks to all those of you who took part in the supper night-guests and friends too. Well done to everyone who danced. You were really beautiful......brings tears to me eyes! :) There ARE photos. Poor Richard is being nagged as per usual. You know what he's like though, they have to be cropped etc. etc. I guess we'll see them eventually.

The feedback has been wonderful. I thought the food was superb.....and so much of it! :) What do folks think about a similar summer event at the same venue?

Second class will be brushing up on a little ATS, mainly vol 7 stuff and PD stuff. Also have a think about something to balance, as we''ll be doing a bit of the old balancing next term. Could be a tray, pot, bowl, basket, sword, bean bag. You need something with a little bit of weight to it. A bean bag is easiest to balance if you're a liitle bit concerned about droping stuff. Obviously don't bring anything you'd be upset to damage....just in case.

Also -and I'm sure I don't need to say this but need to cover my self- if you're bringing a sword to class make sure it's a blunt one. Remember it's an offensive weapon (an arrestable offence to carry one in public) so please ensure it's wrapped and out of site when you bring it into the hall and that it stays wrapped and out of sight until Beavers et al have left.

Also I have insurance for me, dancing with my sword, but I don't have public liabilty insurance for others using theirs, for you injuring other classmates or for you being injured by your own sword. I will ask that if you want to try out using a sword that you dance in your own space at classes, not with other dancers. It would be best to have an alternative for dancing in a group.

If you get on well with it and want to perform, you should think about getting your own insurance to do this, even for haflas. Sorry to be such a pain but injuries do happen .

Having said that we'll have some safe fun! :)

Supper Club Night 21 November

I'm planning a Supper Evening/hafla atathe Darnford Moors Golf Club. Fo those of you who have visisted us at the Thomas Spencer Hall, in Whittington, it's just about 1/2 mile form there. They have a lovely upstairs restaurant, which we wold have sole use of for the night. The chef was very excited about creating a North African menu for us (below). There's room for dancing. Guest dancers welcome. First Come first served. The price would be £20 per head for the evening, including food. I need a minimum of 40 for this to go ahead, with a deposit of £10 per head by 24 September.

I've just contacted the Home Office about the sword ban and have ascertained the following:

- It is still acceptable to buy and perform with straight bladed swords.
- If you wish to perform with a curved blade, contact Equity (the performer's trade union) for advise over whether you may be exempt for theatrical purposes.

I'd hope it would be pretty easy to argue that what we are doing is theatrical! So just wanted to pass that on - maybe the situation isn't as bleak as we first thought.

Tarab Review

Maureen Pemberton has written a review of the show at Birmingham Library Theatre. Rashani World Fusion, Pedralta Dance and Phil Thornton joined forces for a one night only show. Dancers flew in from San Francisco, Glasgow and Dublin. Amanda Tivey made her debut performance with Pedralta Dance.

Thanks to all of you who supported the show, especially folks who came from far away, Oxford, London and Swansea.... If you missed it, you missed a good night which will probably not be repeated.

Classes start again in the Midlands next week.

Limited places available on a Tribal Intensive Workshop 17 February http://www.pedralta.com/whatson/index.htm , for those who have
completed either a 10 week basics course with Pedralta or have studied FCBD style through DVDs etc.(or learnt from a trained teacher) Contact me for details if you're not sure.

This is an opportunity to train with a small group of dancers in a mirrored studio and receive individual feedback, after the workshop, if you'd like it.

Classes

I've had a few questions about class dates, so thought this might help.

Classes as usual this Tuesday and Wednesday, then Wed 19th is our Christmas Bash at my house. Bring a ME or Mediterranean dish and a bottle. Dress is casual or wear your dancing glad rags. Looking forward to seeing you all.

Classes start again on January 9th (This will be week 10 of this block) So class fees are due again on 16 January.

Okay guys workshops in Shrewsbury with Cherie Jerrard this Saturday. We'll be getting some Flamenco attutude going. Posture and arms and hands, then some skirt work and combos. Hasta luego!

Tribal Intensive in Lichfield Esporta the following Sunday 25 November, for dancers who are familiar with the foundation moves of FatChance format. Come and and take the opportunity to learn in a small group, in a lovely ,spacious mirrored studio. We'll revise foundation moves, refining posture, arms and attitude. Dance in a small supportive group .

After the workshop there'll be the opportunity to receive individual feedback if you'd like it or just relax and make the most of Esporta's faciliities. Only 15 places available.(Make that 14 now)

Hi Everyone

Latest news on the Tarab Show is that there are now more places available for the after-show party. The restaurant owner called us today to say that although all the original places were filled, he's putting the restaurant over to the Tarab cast and audience from 10pm onwards. He's so excited about the show that he's holding the fixed-price menu at the special price of £15 a head. What a guy!

And that's not all.............he's confirmed that there will be live bellydance at the restaurant for the party. The dancer was lovely on the night that we went to check the restaurant out. All this with lovely scrumptious Moroccan food.

So you get a fantastic show with live performance by Phil Thornton, amazing digital projections and the lovely Rashani World Fusion dancers and you get a fantastic meal with another show and a chance to dance the night away yourself.

Aziza's Veil DVD-Ebay seller

I know this isn't triabl but I do believe we can learn from all styles of dance.

I recently bought Aziza's instructional Veil DVD. I 've always admired her dancing. I find her performances totally inspirational. She truly expresses the music, using every beat and nuance. Her lovely personality just shines through her dancing. I'm very impressed with the standardof the DVD. She is excellent at breaking down the moves. She turns to demonstrate them from behind. The quality and production is the best I've seen.

Or I found this very good eBay seller who ships to UK for around US$10,making this much more affordable than I can buy from a UK seller. It arrived in about 3-4 days too. The DVD price is under GBP15. (Alladins Cave price is GBP 25 before shipping)

Reiki I Workshop (x-post)

I'm planning on running a workshop for anyone who would be interested in attaining Reiki I. The workshop will be held over two Saturdays in the next couple of months in East London. It will be geared towards beginners, people new to Reiki, or practitioners of other therapies looking to enhance their experience.

If you are interested, or have questions, please contact me by personal message so I can add you to the list. Ideally I need a minimum of three people and the price will be around £50-60.

Candles Batteries and Bellydancers!

What a great night last night. Thanks to all of you who performed, danced, helped greet guests, arrange food, tidy up etc....

I've had some lovely e-mails from folks. The Sutton class said what a friendly bunch the Whittington dancers were and what a great night they had. They're inspired to keep learning.

Your dancing was lovely, a joy to watch.

Have a lovely "summer phna, phna!!" break. I'll see some of you on 18 August at the Stafford workshop. I'll post dates for classes in September when I get nag the web meister to add that to his list!:)

For thanks to the fabulous Samantha Hasthorpe I have finally mastered the art....

Much to the woe of Spencer as he had to suffer imtermittant bursts of 'one two three, onetwothreefourfivesixsevenonetwothree' on the drive back to Notts, bless him.

Now.. If I can just get my upper and lower abs working (abs La, abs, not gluts).

Hi Everybody

I'm looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow. Workshops start at 10.30. I'll be there from 10am. Times and details are here, along with directions if you need a reminder http://www.pedralta.com/tuition/015-001.htm. Here's my mobile 07905 763559. I promise to switch it on!

Some of the class members who'll be attending suggested a "picnic". They're bringing salads etc. to share. If you'd like to contribute please bring something to share or bring yourself a snack for lunchtime. I'll provide tea, coffee and bickies as before.

Pedralta Emporium will provide a souk and I'm very excited to offer some new ranges of tribal skirts and gorgeous Kuchi jewellery (the best I've seen!).

Pedralta also has a new Alternative Chic Boutique where you'll find unique skirts and pants, made from recycled vintage Silk Saris, cuddly jackets and more. Some of the new range will be on sale tomorrow, before it's listed on the website, so you can have first dibs !:) The venue is open from 10am -6.30'ish pm so there'll be plenty of time to browse.

Have a good journey. Don't forget your zils if you need them. Dodge the raindrops!

Our next hafla will be from 7.30pm at Thomas Spencer hall on 25 July. It's a very informal affair. Bring a cushion, snacks and a bottle to share. Guest dancers are very welcome. Please let me know if you'd like to dance, as soon as possible and contact me to arrange music.

Don't be shy. Our haflas are always fun and friendly.

Pedralta students pay £2 and guests pay £3.50. Any profits go to our Sri Lanka charity Amma Lamai, more details about their work here
