The stars are out

I'm used to seeing celebrities, it became old hat from my 6 years working concert security. I once drove Jon Bon Jovi in my little 1983 Honda Accord. I've met all sorts of famous people.

So far, with this job I've seen and or met:
Huey Lewis
Christopher Walken
Drew Carey
Tom Waits
Al Gore
Sharon Stone
Cameron Diaz
Julio Iglacias' son (I forgot his name)
Deepak Chopra
Maura Tierney
Doug Benson

And just today:
Joy Bahar (I think that's her name, from the View)
Tim Robbins

Hmm, the number of famous people I've seen in person is far fewer. Well, how close do you mean? I'm guessing the upper deck of the Oakland Coliseum doesn't count, right? In that case, I saw Andre Agassi, I was pretty stoked about that. Most of the other famous people I've seen were military famous, top generals and stuff. Oh, I DID see (and got my picture taken with) a WW2 vet who won the metel of honor for jumping on a hand grenade and saving the lives of several of his comrades on Iwo Jima. But no, celebrities, not so much.

With the exception of Tim Robbins and Christopher Walken, the above people were on flights I was on. Tim was in a restaurant and waited for his order next to me, Chris was walking thru SFO on his own and I waved to him.

This list does not include my 6 years working concert security or meeting Bush Sr. and Babs when working with the Secret Service.

We can now add to the list: Craig Ferguson!!! Nice guy. Slept a lot, didn't eat, but had a brief conversation with me before takeoff from Chicago to LAX about UAL's channel 9 (where you can listen in to the flight's progress) and how he's learning to fly. I loved how he told me it's not as expensive as you'd think. I told him, you don't know how little I make!

One of my flying partners recognized him and alerted me to his presence. I was the purser on the flight, so I got to serve him and talk to him a bit. Oh, and I got his autograph on the cover of this month's inflight magazine.

Funny thing is, I just started watching his show about a month ago. I don't see it every night, but I watch it if I'm up (after David Letterman)

Oo oo - I have to chime in on this one. I briefly met John McEnroe when I was just a wee tyke living in England near the Royal Lawn Tennis club . A pack of other kids and me surrounded him and asked for his autograph but he just waved us on. I wish he would have said, "You can not be serious!", but he didn't.
I met my favorite celebrity, Sarah McLachlan, at a local club in Sacramento in 1990. A friend of mine opened for her and after Sarah played, she sat at the bar and I got her autograph.

I've met a whole bunch of Steelers players, The Clarks, Metallica (these are out of concert, on their own) and .. Angelina Joile. She really is pretty hott.

OOhh. And yesterday, I met Jason Finn, the drummer for the President's of the United States of America! I <3 them so. And I saw him again today! I should have gotten his number...

        <3 you too

As of today I can add another popular name to the roster.

I was working first class from Chicago to LAX. The guy in 2D slept most of the way. He said he wanted breakfast, but then he put on his eye mask and slept. When he woke up I asked if he wanted to eat. He did, was very polite and even called me sir. That's rare to hear in FC!

His name on the manifest was Rodriquez. He looked quite young, younger than most of the people I see in FC. He was attractive, well groomed and sort of looked familiar, but maybe it was just that he was pleasing to the eyes.

About 15 minutes before landing I grabbed the manifest again to see what his first name was. Then it hit me, of course, it's why he looked familiar, on the show he was one of my favorites, I once commented he should be caught in a sex video scandal.

To make sure, I got up and quietly asked, "Are you the same Freddy Rodriquez from the HBO show 'Six Feet Under'?" He was humbled, thanked me for saying I was a fan and was gracious enough to give me autograph.

On the next segement, from LAX to SFO, a guy got on who acted like a rockstar. He wore dark glasses, barely spoke, super build and quite frankly, HOT! He had a bit of an attitude and also slept most of the trip (Most stars always seem to sleep on planes).

Okay....you ready for my story of who I know (stop me if you've heard this before?) OK....my cousin dated Trisha Yearwood when we were in high school (of course, back then we knew her as PAtricia!) So she came to all our family get togethers!!! This is my #1 claim to fame. I tell this story often.....and people NEVER seem to get tired of hearing it! hehehe

Others I've seen, walked by, waved to or said hi to are: Kathy Najimy and Neal Patrick Harris (Doogie Howser) at Disneyland. Tiny Tim ("tiptoe through the tulips...") at an airport (course you may have to be MY age to know who he is!)

In Vegas a couple years ago we saw Ringo Starr (Becca almost knocked him down,) Eric Idyll, Kramer from Seinfeld, Megan Mullaly , Yoko Ono and the list goes on and on. We were there for the opening of a Circque de Soleil show called Beatles LOVE (which was phenomenal, by the way!)

I think, Penguin wins the prize, though. When he has them on the plane, they are his captives! He can actually talk to them if he so chooses! Penguin, you get PAID (maybe not real well) to hang out with celebrities! Ain't America great, people????
